There is no spark
Sorry to hear about the probs mate, but good to see you back.

clutch pedal a no no
My money is on the pivot ball being the cause. However if the pivot ball goes it will usually blow out the slave cylinder and sometimes take the master cylinder with it. Best to get the pivot ball checked as well even if you do find problems with the slave or master.

NA Missfiring...
It's a very common problem with the 300zx. The connectors become britle over time and the rubber seal that keeps them pressed in and secure gets lost over the years. You can rewire all the connectors to the coil packs and injectors if you are frequently getting this problem. I did this on mine. You just need to know how to use a soldering iron and obtain the new connectors, I think the ones form a pulsar fit if I remember rightly, obviously you need two sets of these and you will have a couple spare (pulsar is 4 cylinder). Another cause if it's not the coil pack or injector connectors could be the PTU, although the most common fault with this would effect all the sparks and not just one. If you want to test the coil pack individually, disconnect the fuel relay, remove one coil pack and attack a spark plug to it, earth it to the plenum and crank the engine to see if you are getting a spark.

Zen Garage
Sorry to keep pulling this post up again, but I'm in desperation now. I've had no contact from martyn since I told him I wanted my car back finished or not. Has anyone spoken to him. I really don't know what to do about this situation I'm in. I've spent 5 years and close to £60k on the car and I don't even know where it is or what state it's in. I would go up there, but with the baby being due real soon, I can't really risk leaving the wife in london while I travel up north for a day. If you have spoken to him recently or are going up there to visit him or collectyour car or anything please get in touch as I'm feeling a little desprate now and could do with any information I can get.

My new Rims:)
Very nice mate. How easy is it to polish rims ?, I have a set of alloys (not standard Z) and I was thinking about polishing them rather than painting them.

Z mechanic or Garage in East London / Essex
Thanks Guys, I know scott from Redline off the A127. Used him to replace an offside wheel bearing once. For each of the guys above, can you vouch for them, do they keep to their timeframes and are they good communicators, i.e. if it's going to be late for some reason do they call you and let you know rather than you having to constantly chase them up (if you can actually get through to them) ?.

Z mechanic or Garage in East London / Essex
I've decided to pull my car out from Martyn (used to be called Zen garage). after 21 months and no sign of completion with constant promised to be finished next week, I've had enough. I'm not even sure what is outstanding on the car but would just feel safer with it sitting on my drive way rather than many miles away. Apparently there are only a few things outstanding on it. Master Cylinder and a few other bits, however until I get the car back or even see my car again I don't know what the extent of the outstanding work is. With the baby due in the next few weeks and work coming out off my butt, I really don't think I will have time to get the car up and running myself. so I have two choices: 1) Sell it 2) Find a very good mechanic that keeps to his time frames. So anyone know of a mechanic close to Romford ?

Watched it a few nights ago. Was an interesting theory, but the story line was a bit weird with a pretty stupid twist at the end.

I.C.E. INSTALL help!
Jack the passenger side up and remove the wheel mate. It makes it so much easier and in the long run quicker as you can then take off the arch liner and see exactly where the grommet is, cut a small X in it and poke something through, as Andy suggests a wire coat hanger is ideal, then you can tie the wire round the hanger from the inside and pull it through via the wheel arch.

I.C.E. INSTALL help!
It's a bitch to get to, but the best way would either be through the passenger footwell into the wing, then up via the battery, or you could run the cable through the grommet above the pedals in the drivers foot well. Personally I went for the passenger wing option as I knew that once I fitted aftermarket gauges I would also run these into the engine bay, but would use the grommet in the drivers footwell as the wires are smaller.

smoke/steam from engine bay!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hi Clive, I don't know off the top of my head what pipes are in the area you are reffering to. Have you tried the search function to see if this has been discussed before. By the amount of people having the problem I would assume that it has been discussed in great detail in the past.

Stalling when cold
It's not diffucult to remove it, just takes a little time. The problem you may have is that the first time you remove the plenum, you will need to disconnect all the injectors and coil pack connectors as well as pcv pipes etc. If it's not been done within the last 5 years or so, you may find yourself with more problems than you started with and have to fit new connectors and pipes due to them going brittle over the years and breaking whilst in the plenum removal process.

300zx-engines Catching Fire?
I was always under the impression that fuel can not ignite unless touched by a naked flame. Ok, fuel will help the car burn allot quicker once the fire has started but I think that almost all engine fires are caused by electrics. Or plastics against turbo housing etc. Am I wrong ?

Stalling when cold
I had a similar problem a few years ago. I cleaned the throttle bodies, and most of the sensor connection I could get to, then reset the ECU. Problem hasn't come back since.

Zen Garage
I have spoken to Martyn in person this morning. His dad is on life support at the moment, so he will be spending the rest of the weekend down south, then returning to his garage on Monday. I have asked about a few of your cars. Martyn says he has spoken to Carl. Paul, you will need to contact him as there is a misunderstanding about your car. James, when he brings mne down he will be coming to you. His phone will be off for the rest of the weekend as he is spending time with his dad, but you should be able to contact him on Monday morning.

Zen Garage
Hopefully mst of you have had a text from Martyn this morning. I'm not sure what provoked this but according to the text he sent me, he will be away this weekend and back to work on Monday. He has promised that my car will be ready for collection / delivery next week. However I have been hearing this story for the last three months. I will try and get in contact with him by actually speaking to him rather than text messages. But it seems like he turned his phone on just before 8am this morning, sent a bunch of texts and then turned it off again. One way or another I will be getting my car back by the end of next week, finished or not.
