As I understood it, in your case the problem isnt that it thinks its in neutral, it think its in gear but the timing is at 15degrees, rather than 25 as it should be. My grey one (converted) used to run with a fairly high idle i put this down to the timing never dropping below 25 when it was neutral. Perhaps 1500rpm clutch depressed (i.e not turning the gearbox over) 1200rpm clutch released. I dont have conzult anymore so cant check what the silver one is doing lol. But that was a factory manual, as far as I know anyway! 30 posts in an hour I think its some kind of record hehe

Does that not mean your car is 10 degrees out across the entire rev range? I was told that the car changes to 15degrees when the clutch is released for alower and quieter idle, when the clutch is depressed changes to 25degrees to help people not stall. If youve set yours to 15 degrees when its thinking it should be running at 25degrees is that not going to decrease performance all the rest of the time?

More than likely the neutral switch not wired in so the timing is sat at 25* rather than the usual 15* iirc. My grey one was the same. Possible also needs base idle adjusting as well?

Are we on about that black bit on the top of the bodywork above the light? I'm 99% sure I dont have that! Why would they not put the washer bottle in the front of the car on the SWB? Bearing in mind that the cars are essentially the same up to the back of the doors

Hmm after some routing about, doesnt look like you could get a P38a with the BMW V8, I was sure I had seen some at the change over! Obviously loosing it. So very interesting then you managed 21mpg out of it on a run thats better than i thought! Hmm suddenly looking even more appealing, dam you! :D

Awesome I really fancy one of those! Looks a great example. However if it's a BMW built car it will have the 4.4 v8 from the 7 and 5 series so 286bhp instead of 225 from the 4.6 rover v8.

I bought an S2 interior from a UK car to make it look better and discovered this problem! So I have a tweed armrest, i know it could easily be retrimmed just lack of time and effort tbh!

It is true what people say about you ;) Hehe, no worries mate, I might just point out thought that since your TT is the estate wagon, the armrest is different to your vert, as thats the too cool for school SWB ;)

Hmm I'm gonna have to have about 10 it's still a long way from finished and not suitable for a house warming! There was 9 of us the other day which was the most people to have ever been here the other day was chaos!! Aye I have the cap from the old pillar, needs scratch coating and pebble dashing but we had to let it all go of. Not been home since until tonight! Sand in vagina?? :) I have to say as an anti apple person who fought tooth and nail, even suffering with two windows mobile 6 phones for a couple of years work pushed me into getting an iphone, a 3gs, as a massive bender I now have two, still the 3gs and 4s. They are brilliant, and as much as people bleat on about android being customizable, and great and this and that and the other as ive found most people that say that, I ask them to do a simple task and the normal response is "err, well I cant at the moment" or "for some reason the battery keeps draining" or if they do start doing it (my lass is a classic) by the time shes messed about getting a web browser up on her S2, I can have done it with the 4s. I had an S1, it was annoying, buggy, bad on battery and built like chocolate. When it worked it was pretty good, I just found my self fixing stuff, closing programs, reinstalling things or looking for an app to do what I wanted 90% of the time. I was in a pharmacy the other day and the pharmacist commented on my two iphones, stating his S2 was better so I said show me how and his response, well the web browser is broken at the minute and it keeps switching its self off...

Look great mate! Wish I had a big garage. Very good use of your old kitchen cupboards. When I rip my kitchen out next year I may well try and put the old ones up in the back of my garage.

Thought I would post some pictures of last weekends activities. Since buying my house just over a year ago I've not really had anywhere to put my zed so its stayed at my parents which is a major ball ache if I ever want to use it! I had intended to put it on the drive but as my neighbours insisted on putting a fence down the middle that made it impossible to drive down easily, compounded by the fact that they put every panel in but the last one and left it for months I didnt dare leave the car next to the exposed bit as it would just be my luck they would put the fence in the day I left my car there! Anyway, I decided to get rid of my front patch of grass and made a hard standing for the zed to live on -

Comparing my mums E39 to dads E65, a 7 I know but from the same era. The seven isnt perhaps as well finished in some places, bit of laquer peel in places and some of the chrome looking tatty. The E39 is far from perfect though, headlights now in poor condition, some rot near the tail gate. I know the E39 is considered the best car BMW ever built, but that doesnt make the E60 a bad car. If you can get a facelifted one with the better electronics then i think they are more reliable. I.e the earlier ones had a normal key IIRC the later ones had a key similar to the E65.

I think that model is from the Mercedes cut back era so things not so well built. What's the best replacement to an old 530d? a new one!
