I can't honestly remember how much - was a long time ago when I had mine done. And had a pair of turbos at the same time. I can find out Tuesday tho if noone else knows. It's gonna be an engine out thing... but then, isn't everything? Change of air-filter?.. better take the engine out! :D If they need it, they'll skim the heads at the same time, which is part of the fixed price IIRC. Looking at your pic, try getting your finger into the rad and under the edge (when it's cold, obviously!). If you get a layer of greasy crud - feels kinda creamy and probably tastes more oily than rusty - it could be a head gasket. Mine got worse after I rad-flushed it. It wasn't using up oil either. Hoping it's just rust in the water. I'd take a pic of mine, but noone wants to see what perfectly clean coolant looks like! I could probably drink it - it's that good. Bit of anti-freeze never did anyone any harm ;)
  2. I have no recollection of said event, neither which if I did would I at present be disposed to discuss any such event at this time. Or somink. So, a couple of weeks then... Sat 20th? Or next weekend... Sat 13th? Or not a Saturday?
  3. :p Are you *trying* to keep everyone away?! It's bad enough that you'll be there, let alone not getting the beers in! I reckon the B.O.B member with the least mods should buy drinks all night. Come to think of it, I might turn up a bit late so you've had time to crash into something else while trying to park ;)

LOL! :D Yeah, I like that. ...eats hundreds of gallons of fuel and punches a massive hole in your wallet!
  5. Pah! I had a 1200/75 that got it's power straight off the serial port! Used to run that on my monochrome 8086 laptop with twin floppies (no HD). I bought that thing 2nd hand cos it was a step up from running a software PC emulator on an ST. Internet?! What's that?! I used to hang out on a BBS - even had my own section for the ST stuff I'd written. Don't talk to me about connection speed... I could describe a picture down a bit of wet string faster than I could download one! Those were the days. F*ck me, HOW old am I again?!
  6. What happened about that? Has it happened? Did I miss it?! There was a lot of people who voted in favour... then it all seemed to go quiet. Geoff - got any idea? Can't remember who it was talking about doing it, but I think you vouched for him.
  7. Just wondering... seeing as we h'aint had a meeting for a while. And I'm sure it's Stu's round. Anyone?
  8. That's "Nisstek" now, of course ;) I know, I can't stop calling them SE. If I start writing NT in txts, I'm sure everyone will think I'm talking about Windoze. Get on the blower to Pete as soon as they're open, or just drop straight in... sounds like something that needs looking at. Maybe it's running worse than Pete thought and you're putting up with it because he told you it wasn't quite right yet. I dunno... maybe a pipe's popped off or somink and they can pin-point it straight away, rather than worrying about it for the next couple of weeks. Fingers crossed and all that.
  9. . . . . . dial up... . . . . . who'd have it?!
  10. Totally agree with your stand on holding back on moderation, but just gotta say I personally think peoples misunderstanding and ignorance regarding "religion" is the root cause of problems. Forums are a great place for ignorant people to spread their ignorance because everyone has an equal right to post complete cr*p, and show how stupid they are. I'm not saying stupidity should be moderated... damn, this place would be so boring if it was full of intelligent posts FFS! Although he's not said it directly, I get the feeling Geoff has been offended by the other thread. I still haven't read it so can't really comment. But if (for example) someone posts: "God is sh*t", maybe for a bit of a laff, to someone with strong religious beliefs this is obviously gonna be offensive. So what to do? Tell them to go away and not read? Or moderate? If someone says: gees Andy - you aint arf a total c*nt - hey everyone, aint Andy a c*nt?! and you get really offended, what do you do?... go away and not read it because you're in a minority and the majority agree with the post? Hmm. That's just an example btw... I think you're a top bloke... even if the majority don't ;)
  11. Should we allow posts about cults?! The Church of Bling... hmm. :)
  12. OMG! The 24th?! That was bl**dy ages ago! Did we talk over everything on the phone? I think the answer you wanted was: hmm, still not running proper power yet... but it's the rolling roads fault! Or my gearbox. Or the stupendous amount of torque I seem to be making :D
  13. Did you? It's probably in there with all those "reply to posts". Maybe I should switch that friggin' thing off?! Hold on and I'll check :)
  14. Oops... got a mail from Crazy_Eddie too! Sorry people, I've not been that on the ball lately. Keep falling asleep and not finishing me beer... that's how blinkin' knackered I've been.
  15. Oh? Maybe I'd better check my email. And have a look at your thread. Mine's /still/ running suhweeet. I'm (still) being overly cautious with it, but that'll no doubt go out the window when the mapping's finished. Well, maybe.
  16. I personally believe anyone should be free to talk about anything they want. If you're talking about banning one non-car related subject then you have to start thinking about what else to ban. Other forums can be pretty anal about what's acceptable discussion, but this forum isn't like that and I hope that's how it stays. How can you not talk about religion when Christmas is round the corner? I s'pose it's another case of: if you don't like it, don't get involved. If what's being discussed is overtly offensive (for example: if there were strong anti-semetic views being expressed) then that's cause for moderation. I haven't actually read the thread you're talking about, but maybe I should. I dunno if I can be bothered tho, cos I'm only really interested in car-talk, and maybe a few rubbish jokes. Oh, and a bit of bling-bashing :D
  17. D'oh! Sorry. Hold up and I'll do something about it. Good to meet you yesterday btw Alex. Car alright? Sounded nice.
  18. Yeah sure. I think the kick-down switch is actually near full throttle. But anyway, I'm saying it's still kicking down without it connected but it *shouldn't* if I had it in hold mode... which I can't do because I've got a UK spec without the switch. I'll find out tomorrow. I just hope there's time to get it on the rolling road again - need the rest of that mapping done so I can make some real horses! :D
  19. Ah, but is that because of the full-throttle kick-down switch tho? It's disconnected on mine at the mo.
  20. I was thinking that 1st B&W one is a R32 front with a 944 back (with an up-twist). Dunno what's going on in the middle tho... Trans Am?! The 2nd one looks kinda Probe / Mazda (euch). The 3rd looks kinda familiar ;) Guess they decided the rad might actually need a hole in the front bumper to keep it cool. And no intercoolers (it's an NA at that stage tho?). I'm kinda getting toward liking the back end with no spoiler... always looked a bit after-thought to me. The colour pics - didn't anyone realise you need to be able to see out of the glass?! I don't like the silver one tho - looks too Citroen XM! That's probably the wheels tho. Kinda liking the black/silver one tho - very late 70's muscle.

Having had a blown head gasket, I'd say the inside of my rad looked like it'd been filled with McD's choccy milkshake (quite light brown). There was a thick layer of it on the rad cap and a whole load in the bottom of the overflow. The oil in the sump looked fine (oil was blowing into the water rather than the other way around). The overheating thing doesn't sound good - mine kept doing this at random times while the gasket was blown. It'd run fine all day then suddenly happen. When I bought it, the guy said it'd had a new pair of head gaskets which is why the rad was so full of cr*p. After SE pulled it apart, they confirmed he wasn't actually lying, but whoever'd done the job had put the heads back on with the wrong bolts in the wrong holes (9 short, 1 long? Or is it the other way round). I reckon, if you've got a blockage, you wanna get that sorted sooner rather than later, cos if you haven't already, you could end up with a blown gasket! It's a fixed price repair at SE btw, if you need it done.
  22. Cheers for that zevans... very helpful! ;) This thread aint gonna turn into another auto vs manual one. I'll just say: what's being attempted on the rolling road is something you'd probably *never* wanna do in reality - stuff it in 4th at 2K and floor it all the way to 7.5K! And the autobox ECU knows just how wrong it is. So I dunno why you're so PYSL... in this case, a manual would simply allow you to get your driving in reality totally wrong. Talking of being able to get the right gear tho, if anyone's interested I will be (*FACT* as a certain mod might say) making my own shift-at-will... not cos I wanna make one, but because the guy that used to make them doesn't any more. Pete's said SE could fabricate the shift paddles, so if you want one, you know who to ask (that's SE, not me!). Right, hating to answer my own friggin' question, the pins on the autobox ECU are (and it's possible I've got these swapped): Hold: 42 Power: 38 Apply 12V to the pin to get the function to work. I'd be wiring it up right now except it's cold and dark out, and I've just opened a bottle of Bud. Plus there's a Project Gotham 2 in my XB waiting to be played. So... I'll let you bunch of useless feckers know if it works tomorrow :D
  23. LOL! Yeah, of course. But this new look Halfords would probably dig up a set with chromed finish, OFC cable and gold-plated connectors. "That'll be 300 pounds please, sir".
  24. Eh? Seriously? OK... at the risk that you're now on a wind up... a Z32 doesn't need HT leads because the high voltage normally distributed via the HT leads ("normal" engine) to make the spark is made by a coil pack on top of each spark plug. So the PTU simply distributes low voltage around. Like Bilky just said while I was typing this cr*p ;)
  25. Aaargh! Pete - OK, understood. But I absolutely can't do mine in 2nd (same rolling road, btw) because it just lights up the rear wheels as soon as it starts making boost! Too much damn pooooooooer! JD - the way I understood it, yeah OK, you /can/ pull away in 2nd using hold, but you can also use it to prevent kick-down (in my case from 3rd to 2nd). It /must/ work, and if I'd had time to go poke around in a Jap auto I'd have had the switch wired up by now. I'm just hoping Pete (SE) doesn't tell me to p*ss off later when I turn up after work (multimeter in hand)... cos it's sounding like none of you feckers wanna tell me what the wires are! ;) Incidentally, even in "modern" auto boxes (unless they're switched to semi-manual) it only limits it to the max gear - if it needs to, it'll still kick down. So that's no help anyway.
