Where does the government send the giro?!
  2. Ooh, I forgot to say, Dave - verniers are probably a good idea. It might sound like a gimmick, but these were certainly helping Alex's make power. He had verniers on standard cams, right? I originally thought these were pointless without reprofiled cams, but Alex proved that wrong. No disrespect to Alex (considering what's now happened) but your bottom end is built to take more boost so I reckon you'd see a big benefit without as much risk. See what Pete says. If you've got the cash, go for cams too ;)
  3. Ah, but I'm only the same size as Mr Duff when I haven't had a beer! When I've been drinking all night I expand to around the same size as Macca. When I eventually go for a p*ss, it takes a good 12 hours to get my skin to fit my bones properly again ;) Figures - yeah, it's just a number, innit. I forgot to say: I thought the car was quick before... now it's f*ck-sh*t quick! /And/ it's gonna get quicker! I mean, FFS... I'm running out of ways to describe just how good this feels :)
  4. The rear-wheel figure is an estimate too ;) The dyno measures wheel speed at a fixed load (which can be inaccurate), which is then recalculated as a torque figure. RPM is calculated from the wheel speed (which can also be inaccurate), and that's part of the calculation in the conversion from torque to bhp (both kinds). Tranny loss is measured on the run down. As it happens, the figure pretty much came out exactly the same as last time. And that's pretty much exactly the same percentage as all the other autos at the SE rolling road day. So estimates, eh? It's gonna cost ya! ;) The point is Mr Rae ( ;) ) wot I got last time was 432.somink... now, just by up'ing the boost a bit and running better fuel, I've made a chunk more horses. No need to apologise mate - I know what you meant :) I wouldn't win in a p*ssing competition, I know that. Unless it was a /real/ p*ssing competition, and then I reckon I could drink all night and STILL only have one p*ss :D
  5. Dave - hope you don't mind... I was in the passenger seat helping sort out your car  Very interesting stuff. I reckon I could get right into the "assistant mapping engineer" job ;) Yours was pulling, alright. It's weird tho - as Pete was pointing out, your turbos spin up so quick, you're at your target boost before the engine's really ready to do anything with it. Mine's making power before the boost is peaking, then goes on to make some more. Your rear-wheel figure is probably more - I can't remember to be honest. I almost came home with your rolling-road plot too by accident. You know what, guys? Rear-wheel bhp /isn't/ where it's all at, unless you're trying to compare how quick car-x is to car-y. What I'm very happy about is that I've paid to have a certain spec engine built, and SE have done it. It's not their fault I've got a cr*ppy gearbox with tons of loss! It came out something like 323 bhp at the wheels. But it simply means if I want more power down on the road, I just change to a manual box. I don't really wanna do that yet cos it's fickin loverly to drive as an auto. But I'm really expecting the poor box to fall to bits eventually, even though it's SE fast-road uprated with a seperate cooler. ~150 bhp is going somewhere - on heat, or swishing ATF around. Shocking really. I've had a word about getting a plot done on another rolling road. That guy says he fully expects the loss figures to come out the same on his because it's not a figure that's typed in - the rolling road works it out on the run down. We'll see. Did I say? - I'm chuffed :D
  6. Now running Optimax, with a bit more mapping, boost at ~1.3 bar (~20 PSI)... 485.8 bhp (flywheel) @ 7693 rpm :) Twin-pop is probably next ;)

Off topic, but... sorry Dave, I just had to say your alternate font is really starting to get on my tits!

We've got a guy at our work place like that. One of the girls reckons it's cos his meat's gone off! It don't matter what we do - his boss point blank told him not to bother turning up to work if he was gonna smell that bad, to which he was very embarassed and came in smelling almost reasonable the next day. But it didn't last. He'll go for months wearing the same clothes and smelling really bad - it's /really/ awful in the summer! I'm just f*ckin glad he works all the way over there in another building. I dunno what it's like at your uni, but we were lucky to bag a computer at all... so the thought of giving it up just cos some bloke sitting next to you stinks probably wouldn't have crossed our minds. Looks like you'll have to suffer and get the work done, or fook off down the pub for some mind-expanding beer. You know what makes most sense ;)
  9. Hope it all goes well for you. All the best! Hey, if you've having some bodywork done, why not go for a couple of extras?.. a big spoiler, or an enormous p3nis? ;)

Do you feel bad Mr Duff? I'm feelin fine thanks. Is the oxygen content OK up there on your soapbox? ;) Just kidding! :D
  11. Right... this just proves what a tit I can be at times. As I get older, I'm obviously getting more confused  Where's me slippers?! I did a /quick/ check earlier, and it's around 60mph at 3K, OD off (in mine). I dunno where I got 90 from. I've definitely seen >160 mph on the clock - maybe it was in 4th!? I wasn't driving at the time, you see... I was busy trying to hold down the contents of the car which seemed to be going weightless with every tiny bump we hit. When I've knocked up a basic autobox gear selector widgit, this stuff'd be /so/ much simpler.
  12. At least I didn't slip out a chug-nut... that'd be horribly embarassing  Do you wanna make that the forum uniform Mr Groves? I must say I think James looks pretty stylin' in it! Slap some horrendous goggle-tan marks on his cheeks and it's enough to make small children burst into tears!
  13. LMFAO! :D Bring on the battle of the Photoshoppers! No... hold up... the shirt pic is Photoshop'd out of that original where James is wearing it?! Damn, I think I've laughed so hard I've dropped a little bit of wee in me pants :)

I don't mind admitting I'm a God-damn tree-hugging hippy! I'm attempting to do the world a favour by using up it's oil reserves in a big hurry, so we can move onto a more friendly fuel.
  15. Dude!!! I didn't really know what to say earlier. I still don't. I've heard the: "yeah, Pete's blown up your lump on the rollers" thing from Bob so many times, and I /really/ didn't expect to come back and find your car busted! I take it the problem they were looking for still didn't get resolved? Did Pete give you any idea what happened? Just to much peak boost? You've gotta go forged... you wouldn't fork out for a rebuild and not, right? I guess you'll be joining the Mondeo club for a while then? :( I'm sorry for you this has happened.
  16. Don't take this wrong... (I'd say) you can't just bolt the bits together, fit an off the shelf chip and expect it to make good power. For what you're forking out on bits, and the time you're putting into it, it'd make real sense to get it set up and mapped properly by someone who knows what they're doing. This bit won't cost you a fortune, but it'll make all your hard work worthwhile.
  17. 5 years?.. you've probably got a while yet then :) You're such a big kid! ;) I like that feeling. You're joking about the suspension tho, right?! That's just because it's been jacked up and hasn't settled down again yet? Maybe it's a funny angle? I reckon I could get my fist in there (as the vicar said to the nun - fnar!).
  18. Oh, you're SH*TTING me?! Best wheel they made, in my opinion. I have got a set tho. Masitaly went bust, I was told the other day. Loads of people are doing RSR copies now. Shame.
  19. Boarding in Canada last year, France this year... why the f*ck didn't we go to NA again?! D'oh! Never mind.
  20. All clean and virginal... hmm :) Nice one. Chuffed for you mate ;) They are gonna let that front suspension back down tho, aren't they?! Or did you go for an off-road conversion while you were at it?!
  21. I reckon that's only fair... we usually take heaps of Cadburys Dairy Milk™ over there to keep our big American customer happy. If we're paying him to come over and twiddle with numbers, he'd also stand to benefit from cramming his suitcase full of goodies to sell (a bit cheaper) at the same time. I'm just not sure how many people would be willing to let Ash loose on their motor, or how much time he'd get to set each car up. Or whether he'd even be moderately interested. It's sounding logistically tricky - he'd need a decent rolling road available for say, a week, and it'd have to be financially worth his while. Plus we'd have to take him out and get him p*ssed of course! :) Anyone wanna offer some corporate sponsorship? SE maybe?! Or am I /really/ talking out of my @rse... because they'd *never* be able to afford the time?! Maybe a mag would wanna help pay?! It's a nice day-dream anyway.
  22. I aint really done yet. I've got this crazy idea forming about getting a bunch of guys together to sponsor the guy to come over here and have a go at setting a few cars up. How's that for a friendly cultural exchange? This by no means should be seen as an insult to tuning experts over here - I'm sure they'd be interested too. It'd take some preparation - I'm not talking about turning up on the day in your bog-standard Z and expecting miracles. Have I finally lost it?! :)
  23. No? Oh well... here's a link to ignore then: http://www.300zxclub.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=27407
  24. Anyone like reading mile long posts? Ash makes a lot of sense you know.
