  1. No f*ckin way. Sorry mate, just don't believe it. All the best postcodes in the UK are daan saaf! I've heard it's reet grim oop narth. You may be a northern (facking warm) beer drinkin munky, but there's no WAY you should be paying less than 4 figures for your engine build, limited mileage or neh-lad. By-eck, and all tha'shyte! :)
  2. JD dude!.. keep meaning to mail you about your EPROMs - I've left them in the sun all week and they appear to be blank now. Just keep forgetting to bung them back in the post! Will try to remember tomorrow ;) Sorry.
  3. Power Transistor Unit. It's like a distributer in a "normal" car, only it's a solid-state device that switches 12V DC to the coil packs on top of each spark plug. You'll find it bolted onto the drivers side of the cam-belt cover.
  4. See, Mr Groves was saying he could kick anyone's ass a pool. And Stu (SMW1) was reckoning he'd take a piece of Mike's ass to the fackin cleaners. Personally, I've never played pool in my life, but I'd still be up for kicking both their asses hands down. That's only if I'm allowed 4+ pints before I'm expected to step up. Anyone local wanna prove these guys wrong?
  5. Yeah Stu. I said 15K last year and went with that again this year. But thinking about it, it's not really enough is it?! I know if I sold the car as is I wouldn't get that much back, but that's not the point really, is it? They said to me, if the worst happened, they'd want me to have the car back as I have now. So technically, they should be forking back out stupendous moneys. But I know insurance, and I know they wouldn't. If I trashed my car tomorrow and got 15K, I'd be really quite amazed. That's regardless of the fact I've probably spent more than 15K on mods so far anyway. Don't get me wrong guys (Speedfreak / Sgt C), I know you probably /love/ what broker you're with but when arse comes to push, will they really pay out the 5-figures for the mod-list you've had done + the cash you forked out for the car?! I'm talking about 100% power increase over standard, and Flux are fine with that. Jezz, you're talking about 7K's worth of 200SX with limited mileage (which apparently would only get me 5% discount), so thinking about it, I'm actually getting quite a deal if you're paying 900 quid PA. Russ - don't worry about it, mate. You've obviously got the cash to go this far if you can afford your paint / bodywork job. If you're gonna to do a proper job with your 300 then you just /have/ to get a kick-ass engine too! :) The fact that you'll probably be spending a four-figure number on insurance each year is surely just money thats gotta get spent. To be honest, I'd be way happy with the power you've already got for a while. If it's really not quick enough then welcome to the "kicked in the balls (wallet)" club (like you're not already a member FFS!). As I was saying, serious mods = serious insurance. I don't (exactly) mind paying for it. So any guesses what other big builds might be forking out on insurance? Macca?! OMG... I think I'm gonna chuck!
  6. Another year's run out and it's insurance time again. Now, I /hate/ ringing round for a decent quote! "Quote me happy"?! Faahck off! Anyone here can probably appreciate, you usually get some poor girl on the end of the phone following a pre-defined list of instructions. 10 minutes into the list is the: "do you have any modifications to your vehicle?" question. Oh dear. Yes... I've got sh*t-loads of mods! Then if they'll even insure a mod'd car, you have to sit there for ages explaining what all those mods are to someone who knows nothing /at all/ about cars. "Hold on, I'll need to ask someone about this". That sound familiar?! If they come up with a decent quote, there's always that niggling doubt in the back of your mind that they've misunderstood something which could ultimately lead to you not being insured should you actually need to claim. Anyway, I'm not hear to moan. This is a quick word of warning to people considering serious mods. Not declaring your mods IMO is completely pointless. You'd quite simply be f*cked if you had a claim. God forbid what'd happen if you mowed down a pedestrian! I've seen people here with ridiculously low quotes, and TBH it just looks dodgy. If you're going to mod a 300, which already isn't exactly a cheap car to buy and maintain, make sure you can also afford to insure it! Cutting corners or point-blank lying about anything done to your car isn't an option. If you don't have the money, don't mod the car. Or drive something cheap. I know a few other people here are (were?) with Adrian Flux. I like Flux because they actually have people you can talk to about what you've had done - /and/ they understand. It appears they'll also sort out insurance for just about anything. Last years policy covered me for all mods and up to an agreed amount of horsepower (550 bhp as it happens). OK, so it was a real pain in the ass filling out the pages and pages of forms to declare everything, but hey. I rung Direct Line again this year. They sent me a "you could save money if you came back to us" letter - I was insured with them the year before last, before my engine rebuild. That conversation I just described above... exactly that. The upshot of this painful conversation was they would not insure anything with mods totalling over 10 grand... which if you think about it, isn't really a lot of (serious) mods. It's basically a complete engine rebuild and a pair of turbos. Nothing else. So I'm with Flux again this year. Fully comp (duh!), unlimited mileage, 8 years (protected) no claims... just under 1,400 quid. Sound a bit nasty? Well, personally I feel a lot better about forking that out than I would worrying for a year that I might not be insured.
  7. Understood. Which end needs capping? The bit under the TB, or the other end? Maybe they've already capped it further down causing these little pipes keep blowing off? Dunno. It'd probably look nicer if I just zip-tied them where they should be. Probably less risk of something fraying the cam-belt like that too.

You don't all have to drive up to the main seafront bit. There's more chance of parking up near the casino... there's no speed humps down there, just loads of cameras. Might get to see a bit of between camera racing too, depending how much law's around. It's not that far down from the pier if anyone wants to walk up to the main bit.
  9. Cool. It'll be interesting to see what he does. I dunno. Maybe an engine mount that wraps around the intake pipe (top and bottom)?
  10. Oh f*ck! Errrm... !?! Custom engine mount?! What did Pete do for Andy E's? It's not like you can even bolt in some kind of spacer to re-angle the turbo, is it? Fit smaller turbos? ;) Hmmm.

It'd mean getting down there /early/ - it gets packed really quick. But I'm up for a bit of that. What with a bit of decent weather on the way, I reckon it'd be pretty good. Mr Groves... ?
  12. Hello? :p No, sorry mate, I haven't. It all got bolted on and jammed in the bay before I had a chance to. I know this might sound a bit unusual, but it's true. I've seen the pipe in question tho. It's got a bit of a restriction in it, but what you gonna do, huh? It's possible Stu's got a pic from the SE open day(?!). I could drop in and see if they're building any other engines with T28's if you like.
  13. "You break, you buy". You've got a point. I could chip in a fiver.
  14. Well, when I pointed it out to Pete (SE), he just said: they're for something you haven't got any more(!). But it doesn't seem right just leaving a pair of hoses dangling over the cam belt. EGR makes sence. Carbon canister purge?! :) How come they're blowing off if they're not in use? I'll get some zip-ties on them anyway. Cheers guys. Mac - not got my camera handy at the moment. Not to worry tho, eh?
  15. ...underneath where the main throttle-body pipes attach, there's a couple of little ones. On the left (looking from the front) it attaches from the left. The right one pushes on from straight on. Anyone know what they're for? Mine keep blowing off if I run a decent amount of boost... which is a bit worrying seeing as I haven't got a cam-belt cover
  16. You wanna get it on a rolling road, Paul? We've been taking the p*ss of one of the blokes at this BM place because he used to have a Merc fetish years ago. He'd fickin LOVE it if we told him we'd got a special surprise car coming in for him to dyno.

Yeah, I like that! I just jacked my car right up and banged a set of 20 inch chromed up blingers on! :D Lime green anyone?!
  18. So you're out of the "fastest 300zx.co.uk auto" contest then Macca ;) Who's left? Shrimp, Baggins... and, um... me?
  19. WHY has this thread come up again?! ;)
  20. Oh, man... this is painful! If you fit a true twin-POP, your ECU ***WILL ONLY BE METERING HALF THE AIR GOING INTO THE ENGINE***. The car will hardly run at all with the standard map... in fact, it's highly probable you'll f*ck the engine if you try to run it like this! You *have* to have a new ECU EPROM to cope with the new readings coming from the repositioned airflow meter! So what everyone's trying to say is don't fit the twin-POP until you've got a suitable chip to run with it, or you've booked it in with someone to custom map it.
  21. I'd like to see that Steve. Will you be taking it to Billing too? What's up with SMW1 now Stu?! I take it XCK1 is still healthy? I might accidentally be taking a young lady out to lunch... at the very same pub. Kinda forgot it was her birthday this weekend
  22. Does that little car park actually have 44 spaces?! Dayam!
  23. You aint having any. It's called jetlag. I don't recommend it (it's rubbish).

Whopper? Is that some kind of subtle reference to munching on horse meat? Damn Adam, you've got it BAD! Hey, my car aint lame! Maybe it's a bit *tame*, but I guess you were thinking about old knackers again.

I dunno if anyone really knows what the standard autobox is good for, other than eating horse (in a non-sexual way). OK, cool. So just thinking out loud, your plans either involve fitting an autobox that can handle more power (Dodge Ram?!) or uprating the standard autobox further? I can't think of anything else you could do and still call it an auto. Six-speed sequentials are semi-auto, so they don't count. Stuffing a manual in is strictly against your principles, even if it's something like a 6-speed from a 350Z. Fastest auto? Let us in on the big plan Mr Mac... you know we all idolise you and want to follow in your footsteps.
