  1. Well I have the option of shifting the cam timing to give a bit more torque at the expense of peak bhp, but talking to Pete about it today, I think he'd like to get my spec build to higher peak bhp to start. The spec's kinda sold on making an amount of bhp, so if it doesn't, it's just gonna confuse potential customers I s'pose. There's something very wrong with that plot. It's not strictly true :) The dip in the rwbhp is a bit of a clue. I didn't know til today. Peak bhp is really higher in the rev-range than it looks. Still waiting on dyno day-2.
  2. Probably easier to borrow a GPS speedo. I feel like I'm in the twilight zone or somink at the moment
  3. This is what I don't get (about my speedo). But then, look at the jump between the theoretical 201 mph in 4th at 7200 rpm, and 139 mph in 3rd at the same revs - a 62 mph jump?! I need to do some more testing! I'm sure mine's something like 90 mph at 3000 rpm, so that'd make it 180 at 6K  I'd better go book Rockingham again, FFS!
  4. Crikey! And it didn't roll over forwards?! :)
  5. Someone p*ssed in your fuel tank? If it'd been me, the octane would probably have gone up ;)
  6. Oh, man. OK, I've read the thread properly now. Simulated narrowband to connect to the ECU - got it. D'uh!
  7. I thought you generally stuck your head between your legs, ready to kiss your ass goodbye?! ;) Stock Z rev limit is 7200, I think. Obviously, that's Nissan playing a bit safe. But, as you say, if the valve springs are getting old and sloppy then it'd sort of make sense not to rev the nuts out of it. I've only really seen the heads in a million pieces and everything was spotless then, so I dunno whether the springs are new or not. I'll ask when he's back here later. I'd like to see the torque-curve a bit wider if anything. Hopefully that'll happen running more boost rather than strangling it at 1 bar. Of course, if torque's not dropping off so fast, that's gonna equate to more bhp at higher revs... but we're not worrying about peak values are we? ;) It's quick now. But running better fuel and more boost, it'll be quick-er. How's the ass-dyno now? Are all your guts back where they should be? :D
  8. I fully recommend getting your wheel alignment checked on a 4-wheel laser tracking jig. It's worth the cash, but not like loads of money. They can set your rear tracking up as well as the front then. Mine felt a bit weird when I first got it, but it was great after getting this done. This isn't a special Nissan thing - my local tyre place round the corner's got one. How'd he know it was running lean? Was it pinking? Maybe try running out what's in the tank then filling up on Optimax. If that doesn't help, as a total guess, maybe there's a problem with the fuel pressure regulator? They're not hard to change. Is the speedo out by the same amount whatever speed you do? If yes, sounds like you just need to push the needle round a bit ;) If it's going further out as you increase speed then you can get them calibrated. Someone mentioned this recently, but I can't remember who. Do a search for posts over this last week with "speedo" in them. What else? I dunno about the fog-light... I've got a UK spec with it built in. You can do like Daves just said, or re-locate it somewhere. Oh, and congratulations on getting your new toy! :D Welcome to the world of sideways :)
  9. Sorry ;) I'm such a f*ck-up in the morning. I don't /do/ mornings! Out of interest John, are these wideband O2 sensors fitted just for monitoring, or do they hook up to the ECU instead of the standard ones? Come to think of it, does the ECU really need O2 sensors?! One of mine's apparently getting lazy which is why I'm asking. I'm guessing Pete's using the non lazy one one to do the mapping.
  10. Traders section? ;)
  11. 12 secs... I'm sure I managed it in the SE Mondeo whilst racing Martin in his M3. I was right up there with him until he engaged 1st and let his clutch up. Don't worry about it Ryan - you'd only be laughing at all the bits I missed ;) Pete's doubtful he'll doing anything today, considering the weather. So you never know, I'll probably be there tomorrow as well. Mike - your car, or your G-Tech thing?! I might have known you've got one - it's a gadget, innit!? :) I notice all the people you've been backing into have had their revenge on your motor! Damn man, that's a real sh*t!
  12. Non. Where's Great Britain then?.. somewhere in Europe?!
  13. 0-60?.. 12 seconds?! I /really/ wanna have a play with one of these things. Didn't see you at SE this morning Ryan. Washed my car in the dark specially too!
  14. I've got a mate building a 2+1/2 thousand horsepower car - OK, it's not a Z. Rough estimate... 75 grand on the engine. Should be in the sixes on a quarter mile.
  15. GB forum?
  16. Yeah, not in overdrive. It /felt/ f*ckin quick - definitely quicker than 130-140 mph. Maybe I've got a US mph speedo?! ;)
  17. Does that make you Mikes bi-atch?
  18. LOL! Careful mate, or you'll get Mr Groves jumping all over you for not being sensible. Or does he only do that on his own threads? :)
  19. I'm confused. I've seen my speedo at over 160 mph in 3rd at ~7300 rpm. Are the ratios different on UK box's? Or the diff ratio? Or is the speedo absolutely *miles* out?! I know it's gonna read higher than the actual road speed, but those figures seem wildly different.
  20. Dude! I hardly /ever/ don't not drive at peak bhp. Do I?! No... hold on... I do! The way it's looking at the moment, it'd be flippin difficult to drive it around peak bhp cos it'd need to be changing gears at somink like 8K! Glad you liked the torque. It's alright, innit!? :) 20 at the wheels maybe... probably a lot more in US bhp ;)
  21. I can't remember for sure. It'll be on the forum somewhere. I think it was something stupid like 1200 in 5 nights - quite a bit of that around country lanes... in fact, probably a third of that trying to find AndyP's house again! :)
  22. Excellent! I'll bring me banjo and we can have a quick jam before I have to shoot off to work ;) I s'pose that means I'd better get it washed on the way home tonight or you'll be trying to look at it through an inch-thick layer of dirt!
  23. LOL! Mike told Herman off for not playing sensibly! :D
  24. Yeah, man! It's just great to have /something/ even if it looks like the tranny loss might be wrong. Peak-wise... I really dunno. Pete's saying he was struggling to get it to run nice above 1 bar on 95 RON, but the proper power cars are mapped running Optimax or SuperUL anyway. There's a red car there with the same spec engine / turbos as mine (except uprated rods) and they've recently got ~540 (flywheel) out of it... on Optimax of course. It's running a dual-POP which might help. If mine can't make much better power with a single, it'll probably end up with one. When? I'll be dropping in there tomorrow morning, so we'll have to see how much time Pete can give it. My bloke with the other rolling road has finally got his new software sorted out, so hopefully I'll get a run on that some time soon (this week / next week?). You coming out for a spin Mike? Make sure you've got a clean nappy on - this could get messy ;)

Arse! Can I say arse, or does it just come up ****? I'm interested - I was talking to crazy_eddie about this flippin months ago even tho I had no idea when I'd get my car back, let alone running any decent kind of power. I get the feeling he won't go cos he's Captain Det at the moment (det, not debt). I'm saying arse cos I'll be doing a top speed challenge on a snowboard that day. Sounds like a good event.
