Zed Vs Soops!
heh heh - At risk of being thrown into a rapidly filling lake at Billing by MAC1 - even though I'm not going to the meet - I have a few words to say... I've got a bit of a soft spot for the Supra. The Denzo Sard and Castrol Supras in Gran Turismo rock! I reckon they look cool too, and it would appear that the stock supra nudges ahead of the stock 300ZX in terms of performance - at least on paper (those pages at the back of "Evo" magazine). Bit common though :p I say we pool our resources - form some sort of vigilante group - "The outclassed and the spurious" - and travel the earth teaching the way of the unreasonably powerful japanese techno-rocket. Hey - at least I'm not spouting this cr_p on the Help and Advice forum! Don't kill me Ajay!! :D Russ.

Speaker wiring???
When I did mine (with a lot of help from Vijay), I had a lot of resistance issues with the original wires. I used some QED Micro cable and it sounds fine. Not too thick/rigid to thread through the doors, but thick enough to carry the signal. The cable debate has been done to death and loads of people have different views about it. I'd just say, from personal experience, that it's worth replacing the old wiring with something slighty thicker and better shielded. As long as the wire's thick enough to carry the signal and can repel interference you're laughing! Cheers, Russ.

might have found one but what ya reckon???
It's perhaps better to spend a bit more money up-front for a nice car, though the thing that'd do it for me is a service history - particularly oil changes. Most of the people on this site change their oil more regularly than their underwear (I've now done 5000 miles in my Calvins) and it's for good reason - Turbos are pricey objects! Russ.

tweeters in doors
yeah, though it sounds a bit weird to me! I mean, wouldn't you get interference from rushing air? Wouldn't the plastic box of the vent colour the sound? Not sure I trust it! Russ.

tweeters in doors
Darren - Welcome to the forum! I've not done this myself but I did investigate it a bit. The two most common points were to mount the tweeters inside the air-vents on the doors, OR to bite the bullet and cut holes into the tops of the door card. There's a fair amount of space behind the doors to fasten crossovers - obviously you want to get the tweeters as high as you can, but there are two concerns: 1. Do you want a "stealth" install (no-one knows there're ill speakers in your car) 2. How "stock" do you want to keep your motor. There're people on the forum that have actually done this (Vijay?), and there's a board called "Safe and Sound", though I think Bob has been AWOL for some time from there. You're going to have to take the door cards off whatever you do, and this is probably the most tricky part of it. There's a good link on AndyP's http://www.300zx.org.uk site - in fact, here it is: http://www.zhome.com/ZCMnL/PICS/stereo/stereo.html ...that deals with the door cards step by step and discusses the original Bose stereo that some Zeds had in 'em. No doubt someone with more experience than me will give you some more advice any second now. Meantime, good luck, and let us know how you get on! Cheers, Russ.

Manual Gearbox question
Just to add to the weight of corroboration - my first gear is also a bit difficult when rolling - particularly when it's cold. I'd always figured it was due to the viscosity of the transmission fluid, but it certainly makes sense as a self-protection feature. Russ.

Blocked Windscreen washers
OK - thanks folks! I'll see how I get on over the weekend. I'll begin by blowing from the bonnet side down (with the hoses off). If that fails I'll look into taking 'em off. Again - cheers for the info and advice. Russ.

wheel spins
I had a 200SX S14a Auto before graduating to a 300ZX TT Manual. Imagine my distress when I just couldn't provoke the cursed thing into a wheelspin from a standing start at all. Foot to the floor, overdrive off - nowt! Miserable! Faster, probably, but still miserable! It never occurred to me to put the transmission into neutral though - that's just weird! Russ.

Blocked Windscreen washers
heh, I did think about that sort of stuff but I'm more than a little nervous about the paintwork!

Blocked Windscreen washers
Cheers Andy - Yeah I was blasting the stuff up and out of the nozzles from underneath. Do you reckon I should just keep at it like that then? Russ.

Blocked Windscreen washers
Folks - Anyone got any good ideas for unblocking the windscreen washers? Mine have slowly clogged up. I made sure the pump was working (the pipes all the way up to the washers themselves are definitely clear - as demonstrated by squirting water over my crotch!), then went about it myself with limited success. Basically I started with the trusty safety-pin down the nozzles trick. Seemed pretty clear straight away but didn't help with the squirting. Then I got a football pump to the underside of the nozzles and did a few good blasts through it - definitely felt blocked and I found there was blue powder (washer fluid I guess), coming out of the nozzles. This opened the nozzles up a bit but over a week or so they've blocked up again. Waaaaa! Any sneaky tricks for sorting this problem? Russ. P.S. "nozzle", mmm that's a nice word. :D

Honda Civic Type-R
A friend of mine has a Civic Type-R on a set of Bridgestone Potenzas - it's incredibly grippy and the engine is super responsive. It also has the best gear-shift I've ever tried (though I'm not too experienced with motoring exotica). I'm not at all convinced that I'd be able to keep up with it around the bends in my stock TT. Still, we're off to France together next week, so I'll be able to tell you! Russ.

NZR - puzzle
Nope, further reflection assures me that I'm completely wrong. I take it all back. Dave is right! ...remind me never to play cards with you Dave! :D Russ.

NZR - puzzle
So, if we don't change, we win 3 out of 9. If we do change, we win 6 out of 9. Surely you can't argue with that, can you? No I can't, frustratingly! I think I'm gonna vanish in a puff of logic... Russ.

NZR - puzzle
I'm not convinced by this at all! I'm pretty sure that there's no advantage. WHATEVER door the contestant chooses, another door will ALWAYS be opened, whether or not the correct door has been chosen, right? So, in the end it will ALWAYS come down to a choice of two doors. The contestant can't know whether the door (s)he has chosen has the prize or not, and it's completely random whether it has. The third door never actually comes into the probability equation - it's ALWAYS 50/50. So it makes no difference in probability whether the contestant chooses the other box or not. Like the coin toss argument. After 10 heads, the probability that the coin will hit heads on the next toss is 50/50 - as it always is, BUT the probability that it will hit heads AGAIN is I think 0.00000095 (where 1 is certainty and 0 is no chance). In the door situation, this is NOT a cumulative probability, and the first door has no effect on the outcome at all. What do you say to that?! Russ.

To anyone having doubts about Zedworld
Full marks to Nelson for having a go at answering fairlight's incoherent babble! Just produces more nonsense though, doesn't it? What's a psychological arrow of time, and what's it got to do with ZedWorld?! Perhaps the inscrutable stoat of perception can tell us... ;) Russ.

Electric windows
Colin - a tip from the expert (Jeff at ZedWord) is to always take the T-Tops off when you work on the car. It's a not-too-painful alternative fix for your kid-trouble. I'm sure Jeff has a different reason for doing it, but I just can't remember it! Russ.

Digital TV Quality.
Stuart - You're absolutely right. I think the quality is really terrible, though I find it depends on the broadcast. For example, films are often really good, whereas live events like the football gives shocking artefacts. True that football doesn't lend itself to be easily encoded but it's still really bad! It's one of the reasons I resisted moving to a digital box for a long while but my provider was squirting digitally encoded feeds down the line anyway (put through a DAC process of course) - checkmate. Makes me fume! Talk about quantity over quality! In fact, don't - you'll get me started on TV programming! Harrumph! Russ.

mot failure
Didn't I read somewhere about a Nissan bulletin which asks testers to allow for additional play in the rear because of the HICAS system? Don't know a) if that's true or b) if it's relevant to you, but might be worth a little digging about before you open your wallet. Someone with a better memory might be able to help some more! Russ.

How naff are seat covers.
Heh, Eric's turning into a motoring connoisseur (actually, 'course he is - he's got a 300ZX now!) IMHO those seat covers are beyond sh*t. I personally don't think the tweed seats are too bad (perhaps 4 on Peter's scale), then again, that's probably because I have that interior myself. Who am I kidding, I'd still rather have the leather seats. :) Speaking of questionable "enhancements" I spotted an import zed rocking a set of gold wheels this morning. What's the forum's collective view on that then? Russ.

Which company makes this bumper?
Heh, that's possibly the rudest front-end I've ever seen for the Zed. Looks like f_cking Darth Vader! Brilliant!! Russ.
