Vijay - what's the wire for? I'm thinking about re-wiring my front speakers - am I mad? Is it easy? Russ.

MOT Pointers?
Sorry about hi-jacking this thread, but... Can anyone recommend a garage that's MOT approved but also knows a bit about our cars (preferably in the south east) My MOT's due in May and I'm already getting the collywobbles about sending it to Nissan or to someone who will find something wrong but have no idea how to fix it... Russ.

Prince Fans - doing me bonce in
yeah - it'd be funny if I was wrong now! If I remember rightly it was a cadillac with letters painted all over it.

white convertible?!!
Heh, no it wasn't Old Compton Street (I work in Soho so I'm there a lot - and before you ask, no, it's just media work!) I'm not sure it is you if you're based saaaaaf of the river - the car I see is usually parked on a street around the back of Alexandra Palace in North London (N22). Russ.

It's "Alphabet Street" I think.

Zedworld any good
Yeah - dead turkey smell is probably the most unappealing part of ZedWorld. Should be based at "Turkeys End Farm". Then again, perhaps I shouldn't have gone there a few weeks before Christmas :p

white convertible?!!
Does anyone on this forum own a white 300ZX convertible? On the "L" plate I think - in North London?? Know anyone that does? There's one near me - I couldn't believe it when I saw it - aren't there only like 10 or so rag-tops in the country? Russ.

Zedworld any good
I take my 300 to Zedworld and only Zedworld from London when things need doing. Had a 200SX before this and always had it serviced at Nissan in Camden. I'm gobsmacked by the value for money I get from Jeff, and he's very frank and straight up. I thank my lucky stars that I found this forum, and from there found Jeff. Made up for my twenty quid already :) I've only been twice so far (only had the car since Nov), but will definitely be back. I'm aware of the Ajay/Emero thread, and have talked with Jeff about it. It's not a pleasant story, and it brought out the worst in the forum, but I've made up my mind to stick with a fella that I think is straight up and great value for money. I'd definitely recommend him. Russ.

My first moment
Well, I've popped my cherry: Had a bit of a 'tail out' moment in my 300 - first time and i've had it for a month so far. Just a little too eager on the loud pedal whilst driving on a damp road. Car said to me 'OK, look, I'm sliding to the left'. I registered mild shock and turned in a smidge, easing off a little on the throttle. Car said 'OK, I'm straightening up, I'm straightening up, wooops, I've gone a little too far to the right now!' I corrected a little more - no sudden movements. Car said 'OK, there we go. I'm gripping again.' I slowed down a lot. I think I was fairly lucky that it was a more or less straight road (I was straightening up from a corner at the time. If it was a roundabout I'd probably have done a bit of damage! It's taught me a valuable lesson though, and I feel I'm getting a little more intimate with the car. Nuff respect to it though! Russ.

Stuart - Hmm, I'm about to install a head unit myself. So, with the 300 there's a different way of installing the unit? Should there be screw-holes in the side of my new unit? :S Russ.

Z Info
Dan - I used to have a Porsche 911 (1979 SC) before my 300ZX (had a 200SX in between). I'd definitely say that the 300 is the fastest car I've owned. Mine isn't modded at all. Don't be too afraid of mileage AS LONG AS it's offset by service history. I might be put right by some of the more knowledgable members here but it seems that if the oil has been changed regularly, these cars last and last. Bought mine - a 1990 UK Manual with 90,000mls on the clock, for a little over 6 grand. It's going to cost me around 600 quid to get it absolutely perfect but it drives fine anyway, and I'm delighted with it! I think the N/A 944 wouldn't be too much competition for the 300 (except from a status point of view). The turbos are all much more expensive for similar performance. The 928 is a different matter though, and was one of the cars on my list! Good luck! Russ.

Sounds good to me, in my new found spirit of DIY car-bodging, I'll have to give it a go! Gotta get through my first ICE install yet though!! Cheers, Russ.

1k for tuning
Russ - I think I just replied to you on the talkaudio forums, suggesting this site! Looks like you got in ahead of me! My advice: Definitely get Jeff TT at ZedWorld to take a look over your car. Cheers, Russ.

Top Gear - Good. Driven - Poo!
Heh, er yeah! Um, I find it therapeutic to rant at the telly ;) Russ.

Top Gear - Good. Driven - Poo!
I've got a different take on this. I don't really watch Driven, but I'm usually about when Top Gear is on. I decided last night to abandon watching it because a) Clarkson is a terrible c**t, and b) it doesn't have enough stuff about cars in it I don't want to sit and have Clarkson tell me which cars are cool, and have to endure him laughing at audience members or queer-bashing. I want to ogle delicious automobiles going quickly. I don't want that odious little pube in the big collars to scoff at environmental issues so the Max Power brigade can 'ave a larff. Actually I don't want Top Gear to talk about traffic congestion or Gatso's at all. Talk about CARS, FFS! "Do you trust the government?" No, but I'll watch "newsnight" or "question time" to form that opinion. And I'm not interested in which faith has the fastest Scooby driver. It's peurile and pathetic filler for an otherwise completely vacuous programme. And the salesman fella: Actually I don't mind him. I'd rather watch him than Dastardly Clarkson and his Mutley sidekick. Oooo, hark at Russ! Well, it's monday!! Russ.

1st time buyer seeks help!!!
Quilly - I've recently bought as well, and I spent a good couple of months looking for the right car. I thought about Import vs. UK for a while. Imports tend to have considerably lower mileage and there are many more of them about, but as well as insurance you don't tend to get any service history until the car arrives in the UK. There's also the small matter of J-spec cars being limited to c. 110MPH. Adding a delimiter will need to be mentioned to your insurance company too... Finally J-spec cars come as standard with 225 width tyres all round, whereas the UK cars have 245s on the back. This means rear tyres will cost you more for UK cars but it stands to reason there'll be more rear grip too (Purists will probably mention road noise and MPG here as well!) J-specs, especially the later ones, tend to have super-fly fold in electric mirrors: always good! Think about how long you intend to keep the car for. If a J-spec is 500 quid cheaper than a similar UK car, and you're only gonna keep it for two years, you probably even the price out in terms of insurance premium anyway. I'd say that as long as a car's been well serviced (particularly regular oil changes and the crucial timing belt changes at 60K miles), a high miler is a great bargain. Another question is Manual or Auto. There're a bunch of threads on this site all about that, but UK manual cars are very rare so you might choose to look to Japan if you want to stir your car along. I bought a UK 1990 manual car with 90K miles and a service history like I've never seen before! I'm delighted!! Good luck, mate, Russ.

Colours, Colours, Colours...
My car's grey too - it's a lovely colour. I'm into my twilight years now (I'm 30), and I'm more interested in the speed and mechanical capability of my car. I love the grey one because it's so understated, and it's much less of a target for joy-riders, vandals and other motorists! Plus it looks gnarly! Russ.
