  1. Yeah I've had a similar experience - I thought the Prop Centre Bearing was royally buggered on my car, but after replacing a poly bush on the front the vibration was very significantly reduced. I still have the vibration but it's much less of an issue - at least for now. Good luck tracking it down! Russ.
  2. Fair enough - different strokes for different folks and all that. For me, personally, I don't feel sufficiently patriotic for that to affect my decision. It's clear that plenty of people do, which is cool. I'd prefer to see if it was in both mine and the UK's long term interest to join, and I honestly don't yet know. Most of the arguments against joining can be pretty pursuasive, and I reckon it's quite difficult actually finding any good arguments for it. Tell you what though, this fence is starting to get a bit uncomfortable on my #rse! ;) Russ.

  4. I don't really know whether I want to join or not, though I think nationalistic pride is a bit of a stoopid reason for not joining. I'd certainly prefer to join hands with my European chums than sail our fair isle(s) towards Washington. One of my concerns is where the financial powerhouse of Europe will be: the City of London (the financial bit) contributes staggering amounts to our economy, and I'm nervous about the implications of either staying out or joining the EMU. It would be bad for, say, Frankfurt to take over these financial dealings. Sadly I don't know enough about it to make an informed decision (there's a task for me!) so at the moment I'm still stroking my chin. AndyP certainly has a point about lower interest rates, though that's only really useful if you're in debt (e.g. a mortgage-holder). Not so great if you're trying to save - but there are other ways around that. Price transparency is good - my barber was telling me about the great deal he got by getting some Pirelli tyres in Calais rather than Dover. 50% discount according to him. Fuel would probably need to get much cheaper in the UK too. I appreciate the Clarksonesque sentiment about Spain nicking our taxpayer's money, and dunno what I think about it, but I'm disinclined to believe anything that comes out of Clarkson's gob since his description of the 300ZX... Gonna find out about City of London and will post back probably ages after we've forgotten about this! Russ.
  5. Stu - I'm in north london (wood green/muswell hill). Would be happy to demonstrate (if I can find a stretch of road without too many speed-humps!) I'll investigate the goosehonk theory some more. I'm just fairly sure that I'm not doing anything but accelerating when the noise occurs. Off to search the forum about 'honk now... Russ.
  6. Hmmm, not unless it's a sort of spectral goose apparition. The sound actually happens when accelerating hard, not when changing gear, and is more of a groan than a honk! I'm beginning to think my engine doesn't like me! Russ.

Anyone know what the reason might be for this: Basically in any gear, when my revs pass through the 4-5K band, I get a weird groaning sound from the front - I'm assuming it's the engine, as it's rev-related, but who knows?! In fact - it doesn't groan on the way back down (with no load), which may or may not be Sounds like Chewbacca is stuck under the car. Goes away after a while and there're no other ill effects. Any ideas? Russ.

    Does sound good but probably depends on the size/profile of the tyres. I'm getting a pair of Toyo Proxes lobbed on the back of my stock UK TT (245/45/ZR16) for £90 a corner. The fronts were about £75 each. Russ.

  12. FT Sounds like it's a JavaScript error, which is related to that particular web-site rather than the internet in general. It's likely that you're printing something using a "print" button on the web page rather than printing directly from the browser. Try CTRL+P on the keyboard (or File|Print from the browser menu) to print the page Otherwise, you can say "no" to stop running the scripts - you may still get something, from which you can print.   13. yep - 6inch normally but 6.5s will fit (I have some 6.5s in mine, though I needed to make a few extra holes in the speaker brackets!) Just be careful about the depths - you want to make sure your windows still wind down! Russ.

The probability of this AND that being true is this * that I suppose "this x that" is acceptable in old skool maths! I should point out now that my participation in this thread in no way indicates any agreement, implicit or otherwise, with the statement or the veracity of it's individual parts. :p
  15. Apologies for the constant repeat folk, but I just want to make sure I get the right tyres, and I'm not near my car at the moment. I've got a standard UK TT with standard, stock alloys on it. I'm pretty sure the FRONT tyre size I want is: 225/50/ZR16 Can anyone please confirm that this is right, or let me know otherwise!?! Ta muchly, Russ.

Hi Folks, Well, my car's started to peel a bit - the plastic front air-dam (pre-99) has bits of paint coming off it which leaves a nice fleshy yellow coloured plastic showing through :( My question is: How can I cheaply and effectively re-paint it? Do I need to get a professional to do it or can I squirt it with an aerosol can from Halfords? I saw this thread: http://www.300zx.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=12390&highlight=front+peeling+paint but didn't really get the gist - TT Tim or Gio - how did you get on and what did you need? Will I need to prime the placcy first? I guess I should strip it back to just the plastic - how best to do this? Can I seal it in some way so that this doesn't happen again? And no, before you ask, I NEVER jet-wash my motor! Russ.

    Daz - The speaker brackets will accommodate up to 6.5" speakers though I think the standard size is 6". Getting to the speakers means taking the door panel(s) off, which is a lot bigger job than uncrewing the grille, but not too tricky.   20. ...and the moral of James' story is that sometimes the polyurethene bushes on the suspension can squeak a bit, as did mine when they were first put on (seem to have shut up now though - my local area is sleeping-policeman-ville.) Only other thing I'd say (before mountains of other people do!) is that you should make sure the timing belt is OK, and has been replaced after 60 thousand miles. You DON'T want that to go! Have fun in it - but be careful!! Russ.

  23. 6" i think are standard though I stuck 6.5s into mine with a few judicial drill-holes in the brackets. No need to change the grilles. Russ.
  24. Just a couple of extra pointers: Wind your window down before you start!! You'll need to unclip the leccy window bits too: Just a plug basically. You can just pop the insert on the [inside] door handle off with a bit of pressure (it just clips on) - lock the door and hold the handle open to do this more easily. The passenger side needs the inside handle (the thing you pull to close the door from inside) taking off too - use a small screwdriver to prise off the two rubber wotsits, and the screws are there. On the driver's side there are also two screws in the hande - in the little coin holder thing by the leccy window switches. It's "carpeted" but you can lift the carpet up on either side to reveal the screws. When you're taking the top (first) screw out, be VERY CAREFUL! Preferably use a socket set or a magnetic screwdriver, as the screw has a tendency to fall down into the darkest recesses of the door, causing all sorts of swearing. You can bypass all of this stuff by checking the links from AndyP's http://www.300zx.org.uk site. Someone on twinturbo.net has written a fine FAQ about taking door panels off. Good luck! Russ.
