Apex'i Intake Dangerous?
Rory I have this filter now, but can't monitor fuel / air ratio. I've never heard anything like this however, apart from some people mentioning the mesh in the AFM creating a bit of turbulance needed for a better reading. Interested to find out though, although my chip increases fueling anyway so should be a problem.

Manual box questions
I've just had a new clutch and mine is reluctant to go into gear at higher revs or when rushed. Everything was fine before the clutch, so i assumed the self adjustment hasn't quite compensated for the new one. Also the biting point is very very low i.e. an inch from the floor, so i was going to try adjusting it with the nut above the pedal. Maybe try this as well?

Oil - You get what you pay for!
So far I've used: Shell Helix Fully Synth 15W-50 Mobil 1 motorport 15W-50 Castrol RS 0W-40 (to see if it made any diiference to tappet noise) Castrol RS 10W-60 - from many recommendations on this site.

Moving / removing the fan
I cosidered moving the cooler as well, but this seemed like too much trouble. Might have to I suppose. Do Jap specs have no cooler though?

Moving / removing the fan
Wanted to gain access to my re-circs today and remember SMW's site having a guide of moving the fan out and up onto the slam panel. I tried this every which way today but couldn't get it past the oil cooler - do Jap cars not have this there hence making it easier or was I just not doing it right? I tried moving the thing every which way I could but it just wouldn't get past it, so gave up and went out for a drive instead.

Bumber / splash guard bracket
I was shocked how bad it was to be honest - poor design as water must get trapped in there. To fix i will have to fabricate something the tap & die like you said - at the moment there is nothing there left to fix it to! Used your site for assitance on filter fitting by the way - very hlepful, nice one :)

TOO SCARED!!!! Can anyone help?
Not 100% sure Mark, - I know I need an exhaust now as I have not had the chance to sort out a new system yet. I have an Apexi filter and also the SGP underdrive pulley which will help a little. My boost crontroller shows a peak of 15.3 psi, when on boost it drops a little and holds a pretty steady 15-15.1 psi. Due to the restrctive nature of the stock pipes & cat, I'd guess at about 340bhp at the flywheel? (stands ready to get shot down by others ) I hope once I get the exhaust inc de-cat & tune the Profec a little for 360ish?

Bumber / splash guard bracket
Was getting very frustrated trying to get to the two bolts underneath the stock airbox yesterday, to the point where I though it would be faster to take the bumber off. When I removed the splash guard on the drivers wheel arch the bracket which the bottom two screws fix to just fell off due to massive corrosion. I decided not to go any further (cut the airbox out in the end!), but now my spalsh guard has two or three holes where there is nothing to screw to, so is a bit loose. Anyone konw if these brackets are replaceable?

TOO SCARED!!!! Can anyone help?
Hi Mark My spec is very similar to yours now - John Dixon helped set up my Profec B and thought that 15 psi was a safe limit for the standard injectors and JWT chip. Not many on here risk more than that without 555's even though the tubs can take it easily.

Insurance after shunt...
I was with admiral for £760 fully comp but told them yesterday about my recent mod's - e-mail through today saying they are cancelling my policy :slap: Flux have quoted me about the same with all mods declared, but I might try a few others at the weekend as well. tried Houghtons a while back - they told me that to have my zed on the classic 2nd car policy I MUST have it in a garge overnight (don't have one). Is this true of everyone on here with them?

Porterfield pads
From Smithy mate - not doubting their genuine or anything, just curious. I'm on standard size set-up by the way (SMW you have the Skyine set-up don't you?)

John Dixon "heard" ...
It is loud, perhaps a bit too loud for my tastes at idle, but when you're in the car and it's opened up, the resonance goes & I have to say it's one of the best noises I've ever heard from a car. Never liked a single exit mainly due to looks but having heard it I'm seriously considering one - awesome!

Porterfield pads
I don't think so - the discs are new (3G bembo blanks, dimpled & grooved) so initially they may have had a sight anti-corrosive substance on them, but I've done about 500 miles this week and took it easy bedding them in, so I'm sure that would be gone by now. Mild stops are OK, brakes are definately better but i have had new seals as well which has helped. I was expecting much less fade from high speed than standard discs / greenstuff, but doesn't seem to be the case so far.

Porterfield pads
Does anyone else get serious smoke from these after a few hard stops? Have been tweaking the profec settings so have a long straight (private road ;) ) nearby where I can take it to the top of 4th before braking hard from those kinds of speeds to 30-40 ish. After two stops, the pads are almost on fire and they stink. Maybe this is normal, but from what I have read on here everybody raves about their performance?

300zx still king
I think I read the 280PS 'agreement' was ending this year anyway - pretty sure it was in EVO mag as they were going on abaout the next generation skyline, NSX replacement and new Supra all having 400bhp +? I'll see if I can dig it out later. .

At last..
the zed is back after an agonising 6 weeks away. I can't tell you how good it feels after the shite Cavalier I've been driving in the mean time. Brought Steady Eddy's old engine Jap low miles with Smithy's stage 01's and added new clutch, fuel line kit, SGP pulley plus a few other things. It's definately a bit quicker than before, the tub's seem to spool a little quicker and the pulley no doubt helps as well. Greddy Profec B and chip, APEXi filter & BOV's need installing now then I'll almost be happy, probably get an exhaust first though if I can scrpe some cash together. Thanks to all involved so far.

RPS sport street clutch
Will I have to run this in in any way? Gentle shifts? No Boost? :(

I did the same thing, it has been fine for 9 months.

Usc??
Me for sure, going down with some other mota's but definately will meet & greet the other Zed owners  Will be good to see some 300's on the strip, not been any on my last few visits to the Pod.

Cheers Smithy - new clutch
Updated frication plate  ? What's all that about then? I recieved mine a few months back - will mine have this mod? Is it needed?

Who uses their Cruise control?
I use mine often on the mway as I find that my speed slowly creeps up & up if I don't. Also, set to about 80 I find I use a bit less fuel than I would do without it unless I really concentrate on keeping speed constant & acceleration light. MAC - any pics of your re-location? I want a new wheel & have been wondering where else I could mount the controls.
