Z Centre short shifter
The throw I'm sure probably feels odd to start with but you'd get used to it after a while. I know if I rush the 1st to 2nd shift at the moment, there is a slight crunch from the synchro. If you take your time a little, there's no noise at all. A bit worried that a short shifter will emphasize this and cause more problems than it's worth.

Z Centre short shifter
As I have to strip the shifter down to get to the bushes soon, I was think about getting one of these. Anyone got one? It it much better than standard throw? Any downsides (i.e. greater wear on linkages etc)?

Does anyone know how much bhp kash was pushing?
Saw the car at the modded nationals - bonnet was closed & not much interest being paid to it at all.

Drag Strips - Are they adictive ?
I left at about 4:45, by which time Norris had run the EVO once, but it looked so hard to put power down to begin with he was all over the place and 'only' did a low 11sec I think. wanted to stay but as I wasn't driving I had to leave when my lift wanted to. Don't know if you saw the blue single tub supra, but that looked capable if he ever launched it right - it was still sideways in 3rd half way down on it's mid 11 sec run! Not sure who won, will do a search in a min and find out.

Drag Strips - Are they adictive ?
Was at the Redline rumble at the pod Sunday, unfortunately my Zed didn't make it in time so had to get a lift  Watched my Cossie owning mate run and he said exactly the same thing - what a rush! We are going down again in a couple of months as I have to show him who's boss. He ran a 14.3 in a claimed 350bhp 4x4, though it was very hot and probably not a good day for turbo's. Saw a 987bhp supra do 9.987@144mph and a few low 11 sec skylines.

sad attempts poll!!
Have to say Audi so far are the worst culprits. TT's are the worst but usually easy meat, have sat on the bumber of several 225's and left a 3.2 behind after he pulled out behind me and started to try to push me along. Best one has to be an S4 though (previous generation 2.7 one not the V8!) - very even match as he seemed to have a bit more mid range and catch up, but I pulled away again at the top of 4th and 5th.

Plugs
When I eventually get the Zed back with everything fitted, it will be running the following: Smithy stage1 tubs, underdrive pulley, JWT chip, Apexi filter, decent exhaust TBC, Profec B II. I was planning to have a max high boost setting of bewteen 15-16 psi. Not gone the 550cc route (yet!) so injectors are probably up at the top of their cycle. Will the standard plugs be OK with this or would some 'colder' plugs be better?

Engine run in on a dyno?
Yep - some of my suppliers that go into Bentley tell me that they do this with every engine before it goes in the car - several hours at each 1000 rpm increment and at various loads. I quetsioned it as it means your car hasn't actually done 0 miles when you pick it up but true apparently.

Peed off
I did think about it, but I took it on the motorway for the first time tonight and when it eventually got past 70, there is a load groan from the wheel bearings and LOADS of vibration through the wheel, maybe balance but feels worse and is intermitant! Plus it also weaves around a bit, so whilst it may take a Pod run or two, the drive down there isn't worth it. Just seen James 300's Greddy Profec install idea though which has cheered me up - was wondering where to put mine when I come to install it.

Peed off
Looks like I'm not even close to getting my Zed back for the Pod this weekend, so having to be driven down by a mate :( Then to add to it, my mate with his supposed 380bhp Saphire Cosworth has talked himself into a Fast Ford feature. He's being interviewed tonight and to wind me up has threatened to mention me & how I might be trading in the 300 after going is his car as it's so much better, faster etc etc. This is absloute shite obviously but if it does turn up in the mag I will not be happy as I cannot bear people even talking about the two cars in the same sentance let alone something going into print:mad: :xxx: To top it off, I have had to buy a runabout and I am driving what must be the crappest car / engine combo ever - a Cavalier 1.4L. The steering on this pile of poo beggars belief, it takes about 1/2 a turn of lock to take moderate bends, and great armfuls to negotiate roundabouts. Not much choice in the £300 used car market unfortunately. Waiting for the Zed to return is horrible, especially on nice days & evenings like today. Just hope it's worth it.

Young persons insurance
Admiral were pretty good for me last year - 23 yrs old, 5 yrs no claims, UK car parked on the street, NO SECURITY NEEDED! (got a cat 1 anyway) £826 fully comp. Will be changing this year though to go the classic, 2nd car, limited miles route.

There is no Zed!!!
Love the NSX and R33 GTR, but if I can only pick one car to live with day in day out then my vote goes to the Impreza Type 25. Eats all the other versions for breakfast including the Spec C.

Northants this weekend
I'll be camping at Billing on the Saturday night - seperate to the modified nationals lot but know a lad who's going so might pop in to have a look. Purpose of the trip was to take the Zed to RWYB on Sat and Redline Rumble on Sunday at the Pod, but I haven't got the Zed back in time  Now having to get a lift down and watch my mates spread Cossie fever everywhere - was hoping to give them a lesson in Zed power but it will have to wait.
-
What have you got waiting to be fitted?
GReddy Profec B II APEXi Filter APEXi BOV's Smithy Hard pipe Kit Shifter bushings, upper & lower boots Master Cylinder Brace JWT chip Can't fit them as the car is elsewhere

Billing campsite
Heading to RWYB on Sat 15th & Redline rumble on Sun 16th at the pod with a few Cossie owning mates amongst others (bit of a challenge!) I was going to stay at Billing campsite if I could - anyone know if there are decent facilities like showers etc. Last time I stayed on site at Santa Pod (& didn't wash :o ) but they won't allow it this time.

service parts cost....
That would be it then - tweeks is 15 mins from me so I can collect in person. Muppets still tried to sell me the wrong thing when I asked for MT-90 though
-
service parts cost....
oil (mt90 and castrol RS10w60) - £95 I brought these recently & paid £80 - did you get 4 litres of MT90? I only got 3 and was going to top up with brand X.

580 bhp 300zx ?
And standard brakes (size at least) if I'm not mistaken - with 580 bhp I think not. When you ask, whats the betting it's a misprint and it's 380?! I went to look at an import auto Z from here and it was shite. NO boost whatsoever - sales lad said 'feel those turbo's spool up'. Er no. Best thing about the visit was his claim of owning a Focus RS in red. When I questioned him that they only came in blue, it become one of the two delvelopment RS's and his mate had the other one (in white). :xxx: Copmany claimed that they would look at the turbo problem, but only after I had put a sizeable deposit down. Walked away..I bloody ran.

Penalty points- How many have you got?
My first 3 have nearly expired, but went through a newly installed Truvelo at about 60 (in a 50) in a hire car two weeks ago. It didn't flash obviously but I don't think the naked eye can see the Truvelo doing its stuff like a Gatso. Just hoping I don't get the dreaded NIP through the door before next Friday, when the 14 working days will have passed  :xxx:

Import or UK
UK here, though soon to have a Jap engine - rest of the car average condition, seen better & worse UK's & imports of the same age. Original UK engine may be for sale by the way http://www.300zx.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=31989

help
That's the NA. Twin Turbo's are 5.6-5.9 to 60 (before they're modded). Gti-6 is a fast hatch, but the Z is in a completely different league. Drive a good one and find out. Take your time looking and you might find one that's had all the major work done.

dyno section
Good idea. I will get mine up to Thor when I get it back to see whats what as well. Anyone know the cost of a typical set-up run (around an hour for example).

gearbox oil??
I got some Redline MT-90 from Demon Tweeks which I think was £12 ish for just under a litre. This is supposedly the best, but its not in yet so I can't say for sure. I've also brought new shifter bushings, boots & lever plate from nissan, as my lever was fine when cold, but reluctant once warm + noisy in 2nd & 4th - if you want the part numbers I'll post them.
