  1. I am supposed to be bringing some wheels/tyres to Castle Combe tomorrow for Red Zed to collect, but he's not answering pm's. Does anyone know if he's OK and if he's coming tomorrow. I don't want to load my Zed up unnecessarily!
  2. OK Ian, let's make it 9 o'clock! If you take the second exit off J16 on the Wootton Bassett road, there is a layby a few yards along on the left. I'll see you there. My mobile's 07711 696960 should you need it. Anyone else reading this and coming East along the M4, come and join us.
  3. Hi Ian The first club laps which I plan to watch are 10.15 so I plan to be at J16 around 9/9.30....but I can be earlier. Let me know what time suits you. Dave
  4. It's great of you to offer. I get enormous value from my membership of this club from all the comments and advice that I receive from members like yourself. But I'm not just getting on in years, I'm also becoming a lazy sod and must stop myself from accepting offers of direct help such as you are offering.....Many thanks anyway.
  5. My mileage is very low, less than 2k last year. I agree it would be better dropped, but not for that price. Whilst I have the C spanners I don't have the facilities or ability to do it myself. I'm getting too old for clambering under cars, it nearly killed me when I changed my radiator last year and had to get under to release the holding bracket etc.
  6. I CHICKENED OUT! I'm a bit embarrassed to admit it, I had even drawn the cash out from my BS account to pay for it, then I thought hang on a minute what are you doing...... £100 to lower front 3cm and rear 2cm........£100 to realign geometry........£200 for adjustable arm thingis....+vat........total of nearly £500 for what? lowering the Zed about an inch. On top of that I might then find I hit every sleeping policeman I meet (and there's loads of 'em just in Swindon). I came to my senses, phoned the garage and told them I've changed my mind. I'm now owning up to you guys. So my Zed is still as my sig. It doesn't look too bad does it? Pretty please!
  7. It's just that I am aiming for a totally 'colourless' look to my silver Zed. I started with the front and side indicators, using clear lenses and chrome bulbs. My next step is to replace the red rear side reflectors with clear white lights......I believe they are available in the States but I've been unable to track them down yet. That would just leave the rear lights and, whilst I originally planned to modify my existing lights by just replacing the orange lens with clear (like the 99 spec) as several members have already done, I thought 'why not go the whole hog and replace the red lenses as well'. That would just leave the red rear reflectors which are a legal requirement anyway.
  8. I was only in Adelaide two nights and spent one day on a vineyard tour and the second day riding the tram to Glenelg and spending the day 'by the seaside'. I was lucky enough to stay in an Hotel complex near Cairns that comprised individual log cabins clinging to the hillside in the forest and overlooking the sea. It was amazing! But, like I said, my favourite place to LIVE would be Adelaide. Some stunning photos and videos posted here........it must have been a really memorable cruise.
  9. Sorry to hear your Zed has got hit by a motorcyclist. I am genuinely sorry for you but, as an ex-biker myself, I also hope the rider's OK.........you're a bit vulnerable on a bike.
  10. I think you've hit the nail on the head there Dave. Your mention of 'the red inner lens' Prompted me to have a look at my standard lights and, to my surprise (shows you what a twit I am) I saw that the orange and red lights are fronted by the clear plastic cover. I had not realised the lights were contructed that way (I know, I've already said I'm a twit) but now all is clear (excuse the pun) and the mystery is solved......at least for me. The next question is, would it not be possible to convert the red brake lens in the same way that the orange indicator lens has been changed to 'clear' by a fair number of members? If so, are there RED chromed bulbs available similar to the orange ones already used?
  11. I'm going west but not on the M4......I will be going via Wootton Bassett and Chippenham on the 'A' roads.........it's a far more enjoyable drive. If you want to join me let me know and I could meet you off junction 16.
  12. Well if it is Andyp's site, you can see from his answer that he is not sure which is correct. I've been looking around worldwide ebay sites to try and find some 99 spec rear lights for sale but haven't had any luck so far (there's no Japanese ebay site, unfortunately) In what country(ies) were the 99's sold?
  13. :rofl:Don't be a plonker lol , of course they'll be red when they're lit up......else they wouldn't be legal:D
  14. I must say both lenses look clear to me, with the red of the bulbs showing through them. What do others think?
  15. Wow, I wasn't expecting such a quick reply, but this is what 'Andy' says:- "Hi Dave, That page is a direct translation from a Japanese site. I can't guarantee that it is 100% accurate. However, in the photo it certainly looks that both are intended to be clear, although it is more obvious that it's possible to tell that the brake light is red. I've not seen a 98/99 spec car in the flesh so to speak, so can't verify personally. Not sure this helps much - sorry. Andy" Has anyone here "seen a 98/99 spec car in the flesh"?
  16. I have just sent an email to the webmaster of the site asking for clarification, I will post the reply here.
  17. It does say under the photo "brake:clear turn:clear"
  18. I've copied from another thread the following link, http://www.300zx.org.uk/model_variations.htm and am interested to see that a series VI Zed has CLEAR rear lights, and that's BOTH sets of lights...the indicator lights AND the brake lights. Does anybody know where I could get my sticky fingers on a set of these?
  19. I did plan to do that more than a year ago (cos my first Zed was an N/A with a TT front bumper) and I bought one which is still in the garage. Problem is, I got some quotes to respray it silver and the prices were bl@@dy ridiculous so I've given up on the idea. (Anyway, I think it's cheating a bit, like dressing mutton up as lamb!)
  20. There's one here if you're interested.................. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ih=001&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWA%3AIT&viewitem=&item=110242781830&rd=1
  21. Gosh...you're very clever Joely P:bow: It's going in tomorrow to be lowered, 3cm at the front and 2cm at the rear. , I don't think that will be as low as you have shown but it is as far as I dare go at this stage......I don't want to bottom my Zed on all the sleeping policemen around Swindon. The wheel's geometry will then be checked and corrected, Toe-in, Alignment, Camber etc. and all will then be ready to GO! Also, I've found my Tein spanners, they were in the 'very safe' place that I put them ages ago....................in the tool bag next to the spare wheel in the boot!!! It was by pure chance that I found them there but this now means the lowering can go ahead. For those of you going to Castle Combe on Saturday, I'll see you there.
  22. I'm sure they're Flex but, sod's law, I can't find the manual and spanners that were with the Zed when I bought it. Ain't that just typical:headvswal It's all in a clear plastic folder and I think it's somewhere in the garage, but that's almost up to the ceiling with junk of one sort or another.......it'll take weeks to search through that lot:rant:
  23. Sorry Murt, I didn't mean that! What I was pointing out was that the meet would be intended for members who actually have something they want to do at the meet, not sometime afterwards.
