Shame you are not down there a bit later, I would love to see your car I'm very interested interested how the exhaust turns out, us swb owners have rather limited options without importing. I'm coming up with a plan to replace my exhaust as well

To shave or not to shave...?
My opinion will be obvious. I really like the look of the back end with the Perspex strip fitted and I'm not particualy keen on any of the factory spoilers. For a swb I would remove it as it wakes the lines far less fussy and makes the car less dated However, if I were going for a more stock look ( front bumper) I'd keep the 89 spec and keep the car all original It's your car but personally with the new wheels I think it would look fantastic despoilered

What did you do to your zed today?
Are you using a single hex socket. You want to be using a deep single hex socket on that. That bolt is very long and runs through the alternator in a sleeve which it can corrode to as far as I remember, it can be very tough to crack. I'm quite sure mole grips won't do it. If the 14mm head is rounded, hammering on an imperial oftern works.

They look tidy. it's great to see everything so clean and tidy, particualy with them on show now so much more. Glad the performance is better too. as a future upgrade have you thought about some bigger discs?

my build thread
It's a lot of hard work but trust me, when it all starts coming back together it will be worth it. As has been said it's very thereputic.

I'm interested in this too as I think I have the same ones going behind a 99 spec

wiring loom
I have one, it's good. There are extra connectors on it for different ages of car, you can either trim them off and wrap up with tape or just leave them as is. My only complaint is that there is too much loom going through into the cabin so it's a bit tricky to refit the ecu. Apart from that, they are great and have some nice extra features like a switched injector circuit and a detachable injector loom. I reworked mine quite a lot for my wire tuck but I've had no issues.

Some great bits there mate. Always satisfying bolting all the new clean suspension etc back together and it looks like you are doing a great job. Watch out though it's addictive, the clean bits make the rest look worse then, well I'm sure you know. What colour is it going to be?

Nice wheels mate, good choice. 5 spokes just look spot on for the 300. From the side on profile our cars should be looking quite similar. Glad you got this sorted to some degree at least.

What coolant expansion tank?
I actually just ordered one last week, I'm moving mine to under the nose panel to free up some airflow through the ic. Not worked out its exact position yet though.

Lead up to MOT
Honestly with the emissions you need to get the engine set up correctly, no air leaks, timing adjusted, idle valve set tps correct voltage and in idle position. To do this properly you need data scan etc , a timing light and a boost leak checker. As per the other posts, I'm sure they are testing to the wrong standard

Wheel suggestions please!
What is your budget mate? I really like some of the Japan racing wheels, the jr3's are one of the sets I was concidering. I think your decision on the 5 spokes is right as that is what the car came on. Be careful of 19's on a shortie, they can look a little too big with the wrong design but can also look perfect with the right wheel.

new recaro seat turned upto day
I'm liking the new bits. You really should get a build thread, a great way to keep your own motivation going and also some great encouragement from the club. You never know you may inspire someone to finish their own project off too. Keep up the good work and pics

Rare parts thread
Must have missed this post I've been thinking of getting down there, fortunately for me I work/ manage a few car guys in Japan plus my other half is Japanese so the language barrier isn't so much of an issue, although my Japanese sucks as much as my Cantonese. If I get down there I'll try to do a full write up

What colour do I choose??
Midnight purple for me as it was an original colour

Generally speaking (I've dealt with massive automated machines) the most important part is getting the clean and remove all the old paint etc. Generally speaking powder coat is very forgiving and goes on very thick. They shouldn't need pre heating, if he isn't using an electrostatic charge then this will cause poor distribution (not enough and it won't flow, too much and you get sagging/runs etc) The temp and baking time will also be a big factor, too short/cold and the plastic will not smooth out. Sound to me like he has skipped on the prep work and doesn't really know what he is doing, the same goes on his business practices. I will be getting my nismos done when I get back, hopefully I will have less haste with these. For ref they will cost about 500 but the have a diamond cut lip and centre, I'm sure a simple two colour job would be cheaper. The place is down in Tewksbury though so would be a long way for you, they do have a great rep though.

Honestly they look awful, feel bad for you mate. I am sure you have a few options here, first would be to at least mention trading standards. I understand this is frustrating for both parties here, you obviously and I'm sure he isn't happy doing a job a third time. However at the end of the day you deserve what you payed for. I have quite a bit of experience of powder coating from an industrial point of view and I can say without a doubt that the finish wouldn't pass for even agricultural equipment. Honestly the guy should be ashamed. If it helps you should have my deposit.
