  1. I had a very similar prob, ie no spark and the fan running after I let go of the key. In my case, and thanks to this forum, it was the connections in the loom under the bonnet, not sure which one as I simply cleaned and checked all of them that I had been anywhere near. And I also "settled" the wiring down a bit, I mean, I tried to make sure the loom was not stretched, if you know what I mean? This got me a spark. The fan stopped running too.
  2. After replacing my injectors and having some right fun and games I have now, with some good help from here, got the engine running. But, front n/s cylinder will not run. Compresson is fine, I have no pulsing elec signal from the coil connector, if you know what I mean? So, is this a sign of a tired PTU, or a broken wire? Any ideas????
  3. Again, thanks to everyone. And I will watch how tight I do the bolt. :-)
  4. Have you thought about putting one pair on the rear, buying some different size for the front and keeping the other 245's for when you wear the rears out?
  5. Now theres a question. I have thought about this, I need to look at a picture to make sure I have it right. Funny how you can think of something and then forget all about it later. When you need it. EDITED. Fry you are a star, just had a look and swapped them round, car started first go, only on three cylinders but I can cope with that after all the messing about its had. So, one I feel a fool, two I am relieved it was nothing serious. mind you what a game. Thanks everyone..... :)
  6. I think so, I have checked it a few times, as you do. I will look again, thanks.
  7. Do injectors get stuck and not work when not used?
  8. Update, I have cleaned and checked all connections, I have now got a spark. BNot the biggest I have seen (is this a sign the PTU is tired?) If I put fuel past the throttle bodies it will sort of run on 2-3 cylinders, so, I seem to have no fuel going thru the injectors. Pump runs as it should, fuel pressure out of filter, so I assume pressure up to injectors. No leaks. Can I check the values of the signal going to the injectors with a multimeter adn what are the values? Anyone know? And does anyone have a good way of cleaning inside the connectors?
  9. And yes, I have PM'd the seller he assures me it was for 555 injectors, I also spoke (PM'd) John Dixon about the chip and he knew who I was talking about, so yes. But, I would expect it to start anyway, even if it ran badly.
  10. Thanks Smithy, OK, the fan runs, only for a short while and it does so only when I stop cranking. So, start cranking, engine turns over, does not start, stop cranking, fan runs, then stops. Does this with both ECU's. Whats my next step please?
  11. One thing I did, maybe a big mistake but it was simply imposible to get the injector connectors off, so I cut the wires and re soldered them with some extensions to make them easier to fit. Once the plenum was off I could get to them. Was this stupid? and if so, why, and where to go next? Have done a big search for ECU part numbers and got nowhere. :headvswal Is JD still around?
  12. No luck with the CAS and PSU connections. ECU I have opened the ecu and taken the numbers off the chip, not sure if there was any point. Anyway, the original ECU has a 22 on it, the new one 37. The other numbers are also different. The chip is socketed (not that I distrust the seller) just checked to make sure. So, is the new ECU compatible with my car? number are as follows. New ECU AT27C256R OLD A18-000-MC82231 MY CAR, 1992 SHORTY TT MAN. New ecu from a jap import TT (as I remember) Have not done diag yet as I wonder if the new ecu is ok to use.
  13. Hi, have not yet tried the CAS and PTU as I have only just got up. I bought an ECU off someone on here, cant remember his name but he was breaking his whole car, it was sold as having a JD chip, I bought the injectors and the ECU together. It does have a JD sticker on it but I have not opened it to look. The seller said all was ok with them. I fitted the "new" ECU before I tried starting it at all. No luck, tried the old one, again nothing. Checked the ECU connection, looked at the pins, in case one had bent or something. All looks OK. I will try the PSU and Cas shortly and report back. Thanks people.
  14. Yes to the earths, PTU, I have not looked there but will now, wheres the CAS? Is that the thing on the Right hand cam cover? yes I see it is, will look in the Am. And thanks for the reply.
  15. Hi, replaced my injectors for 555 ones. Put it all back together and now I have fuel pressure but it will not start, if I put a plug in a coil there is no spark. Have checked all connections and I think they are all OK, however there were two that would swap over near the back of the plenum, did my best to get them right, but tried them both ways, no difference. When I crank it, it does not start, and then when I let go of the key the electric fan runs for a few seconds. I will look up how to do a diagnostic for tommorrow, but I am feeling stumped. Did a search and didnt find how to do a diagnostic on the ECU. I can check the various plugs for power, if someone can tell me where to find the values please? Prior to the plenum removal all was fine. HELP.........anyone got a good ideas?
  16. It does look good, and it cant be worse than the tiny things fitted as original..So has to be OK.
  17. As above, did a search and found nothing. I am looking at a low standard type. Cheers.
  18. Hi, can anyone sell me some PCV pipes tonight/tommorow so I get them Sat post???
  19. So Andy, is there a way of changing the speedo to read MPH (apart from UK clocks) that works properly?
  20. 452's, front and rear on 19". Good tyres
  21. I thought that, so I cleaned all the fans and hoovered the case out. But, as I write this, its not doing IT. So, who knows? I dont......thanks for your input people. I will post again if and when it goes wrong....
