No mate.The ecu can not read what your base timing figure is.It assumes youve set it at the correct figure of 15 degrees as this is what it looks for and uses for any advance of the ignition.The figure you get on your datascan will read 15 as the ecu is looking for that base setting.

Question about starting the Zed in the cold
If your zed is still using the wastegate solenoids it should only allow partial boost until the ecu sees that the engine is up to temp.

The smoke issue is probaly turbos as he states.If you can live with it is another problem.Can get embarrassing sat at the lights with smoke pouring out the exhaust.Youd be looking at over a grand to fix it.

missus rover 216 loosing water
The most comon failure on the k series head gasket is the coolant seeps out the front right under the exhaust manifold.The sealing there is very small due to a large water gallery.over time it weakens and literally pushes the gasket out.If the head has been skimed before you can get a saver shim that is sealed to the head face using wellseal.

how do you bleed the clutch
The rear wheels should not move till the car reaches 50mph,the speed will vary slighty on j spec models that are de limited IIRC.You can get the wheels to turn at a walking pace by following a diagnostic procedure that involves pressing the clutch and turning the steering wheel in a certain sequence.Ive tried it to no avail but im told it does work.its explained on TT.net.the hicas light will flash during the diagnostic indicating any fault.

They covered this on my testers course.According to Vosa and the law you are only allowed to and from the test and by the shortest route possible :rolleyes:.The guy that ran the course said you shouldnt even stop at the shops on route or anything similar FFS !!

What gap at 20 - 25psi
For 18psi i run .035 so for 20-25psi you could start around that and gap them down if you experience spark blow out.But an amplifier will help as stated.

That sounds like big ends IMHO.the noise is to heavy for lifters.To prove it retard the timing.this decreases load on the pistons which causes the clack as the journal slops around in the bearing.

Faulty o2 sensors will not cause excessive white smoke.The ecu will default to rich if it cant read the o2 sensors which will give you soot on the back bumper.- turbo
if your car is de catted,putting the cats back on will probaly stop the smoke.- head gasket sniffer
Sometimes when cars are overheated the heads lift with the expansion and the gaskets stop sealing.Did the bolts feel a little looser than you expected?- head gasket sniffer
A common misconception yet regarded as the correct and proper way?? id rather have to explain the cost to many of my engine rebuild customers then apologise that i did it on the cheap and it went wrong.alloy heads can be a pain to clean up after removal so a light skim gives a good surface for the new gasket especially if steel multi layered ones are used which are far less forgiving than asbestos types.I really dont see how around 6 thou removed from a face is going to weaken it that much or cause compression issues unless your running very high boost pressure :rolleyes:. - turbo
