Having your cats removed for an mot is not a failure.Not passing a cat test is.Id expect dave that the cars exhaust noise will increase a bit but it shouldnt be excessive.Joely p had that set up and it did give a nice exhaust note after that was ok through the rev range and didnt drive you nuts on long journeys.

I can sort a sensor out for you.Have you checked the loom for continuity? Only one wire reaches the sensor.The other is a shielding wire and coils around the other to stop interference.If the plug is shot i could sort one of those also.

If you dont know what det sounds like then its some insurance.As legrath correctly stated some chips can have knock maps and will run these when knock is detected.They will also retard timing and enrich fuelling to combat the detonation.Is it the loom or sensor your after?

What Oil Pressure?
Its more than likely your gauge is not 100% accurate.Oil pressure should not affect your seals.The only force exerted on them is crank case pressure.So a leaking rear main will have no bearing whatsoever on oil pressure unless of course you run out of oil.

The solenoid you mentioned actuates the egr valve.They too can play up.To eliminate the egr valve.Where it connects back into the inlet manifold make up a gasket from a piece of coke can so it blocks off the system.Then try it.

Egr fault usually on astras.Valve stays open so boost from turbo dumps out the exhaust.

Ive been looking at a flyer i got from Castle at japfest 2008 and it does sound impressive.They state that they cover dyno days also.I could get a price and if Anthony gets one from his contact we could see who comes out the most favourable?

Only thing you want to be aware of is youll need a substantial crane to cope with the engine and box in one.Your average home mechanics crane wont be very stable with that amount of weight on it.

What Jeff is saying is the injectors have a constant 12v supply and the ecu switches the earth and varies injector opening by the length of the earth pulse.A multimeter as Jeff states will not be able to show the variation in voltage as the rise and fall is so quick.A noid light or oscilliscope is the usual means of checking.oscilliscopes are expensive so that leaves a noid light.they are plugged in between the injector and the loom.

Total no brainer that.The air con takes around 5hp which aint a lot when you consider the car has 280 standard.The air con clutch disengages anyway under acceleration according to the manual to give max power.And driving around with the window down turns the car into a a parachute :tongue:

Did the garage strobe the timing to see if it it was out? If the cam to crank timing was out this would mean the cas would have to be way off centre to get the base reading of 15 degrees.However if one of the cams was out excluding the n/s camshaft which the cas runs off then then strobing wouldnt prove this.But id expect some other issues if this was the case.Poor idle for a start and starting issues.

A quick little story for you all. But true
Has anyone heard the latest crock of shit warning women against people selling perfume in car parks.They get you to sniff the perfume which is really some knock out liquid and you pass out instantly and they rob you :rofl:.Sister in law sent it to my missus as a warning.Its daft gullible bints that spread this kind of horseshit as they are the only ones that fall for it.

Ive have the e bay cast ones and fitted Vigneshes.They are EXACT copies of AMS ones as i have seen and fitted both.They do require a few small mods to fit such as the metal oil return pipes need bending on the turbos and the manifold heat shields need trimming and some hammering out to get round the larger diameter pipes.I wouldnt use the manifold to head gasket supplied though.Use oem ones.
