If you are having trouble with the heat shields use a long lever bar and a hammer and bend them to pieces. You will bin them anyway. Do you have a wobble socket? I cant comment for the drivers side bolts as I was doing the passengers side, but the drivers side came off in 5 minutes flat, we only had 1 siezed bolt on top of the passenger side that needed slowly working out.

Yes the Aircon wont work properly until you replace it with a display of the same series. So even if it was working in celcius it would be pointless as the aircon wouldnt work! I reckon you will have to swap the ecu box to get the right reading, not the display. Also there is another circuit board in the pod (in the 'bulge') try swapping that over.
