Right I bought the decat kit from 2fast2cool, very impressed with the quality.

On the other hand I am not impressed with Nissan and there shity positioning of bolts on the elbows.

Have managed to to do the passenger side, apart from the little heat shield bolt which has rounded (waiting for the wife to come home so I can to B&Q for more dremel bits)

How the hell do I do the top 2 bolts on the drivers side while the car is on axle stands? was going to leave them but since all six of the studs that hold the cats on decided to shear I am kind of comitted. Also I really need the car for Thursday as I have 2 Job Interviews.

Anyone done this without dropping the transmission or ripping the engine out, please help me.

If you are having trouble with the heat shields use a long lever bar and a hammer and bend them to pieces. You will bin them anyway.

Do you have a wobble socket? I cant comment for the drivers side bolts as I was doing the passengers side, but the drivers side came off in 5 minutes flat, we only had 1 siezed bolt on top of the passenger side that needed slowly working out.

how did you get to the top to bolts on the drivers side as the steering rack is in the way when attacking from the bottom and the master cylinder is in the way when attacking from the top.

Think the easiest think is to rip the master cylinder out that should give me the room to get to them. oh well will just have to drain the brake fluid and re-bled the brakes.

I managed to get them off with a wobble socket and two extension bars a bit of messin

Thats the way to do it, there is definitely no need to remove the master cylinder

This is such a pain of a job, passenger came off in about 20mins, took about 5hrs to do the drivers. They are correct, the only way is to get a couple of extensions/reducers etc until you can get the socket on the top 2 bolts. I found it has to be the correct length within about 1/2" or you foul on the bulkhead or steering rack.

Think I actually used 3/8 ratchet - 3/8>1/2 adaptor - 1/2>3/8 adaptor - 3/8 socket to get the correct length. Quite a lot of swearing was going on that day.

You can do it from underneath as long as you don't have plates for hands or anything.

I need to do this soon too. What size are the nuts, because I think I will go and buy the correct wobble socket now.

Cheers.

right still can't get at them with the wobble socket. goint to try one last time and if this doesn't work I am going to be pissed

Got to mine by kneeling on top of the engine and squeezing my arm down the back, was a real PITA to do and lost about a pound of skin in the process , i also ended up buying a set of short spanners cos a normal length one was fouling on the surrounding pipes and stuff and you couldn,t get a swing on them to crack them loose .

Once loosened it was a piece of pi55 to fit the new ones cos there,s loads more room around em :hyper: :hyper:

For the guy asking the nut size , there all 13mm bud .HTH

didnt think there were any 13mm's on the stock z? thought they are all 12's but same size thread as uk 13mm's?

They'll be 12 or 13mm, depends who's worked on the car lol. If you really get desperate you can take the gearbox out, had mine off today & there's loads of room to get my downpipes off now.

At that rate I will wait, I have an alluminium flywheel to fit. Thanks

Right I removed the master cylinder last night and it is so much better as it gives you loads of room to work. This is the prefered option for me now, as it gives me the excuse of changing the brake fluid at the same time.

Oh the O2 sensors are a right bitch the drivers one slackened, but the passenger one on mine is solid, going to take it to a workshop and get them to remove it.

okay finally got them done :D :D damn rain kept driving me back inside.

This is alot easier if you remove the master cylinder, it took me ten minutes to undo the bolts on the top and five of them were grinding off the bolt holding the heat shield on as it had rounded off.

Ended up snapping the passenger o2 sensor as well so I have just plugged it with a blank while I get a new one from Nissan.

Oops , yeah your right Ed , i was having a blonde moment :slap:
