The rebuild has finally started today and so far in a few hours I've managed to completely strip the interior.

 

 

 

Next job on my list is to get both the bumpers, tailgate and bonnet off.

 

After that i'll work on the body panels and stripping down the engine.

However after the 4th run we lost a lot of power and the driver side turbo started to smoke.

After this thinks just got worse as it went on until we just stopped the session

 

Got it back home and tonight i started to strip things down again.

First get her back up on the stilts

Checking underneath i discovered oil residue on the turbo so at this point we have some sort of oil seal failure.

Some good news is i stripped the top side of the intake pipes and they were clean and dry.

Also discovered a leak on the exhaust seals as some fluid poured out onto the floor.

I plan to get a new exhaust as the flanges on a japspeed exhaust are terrible.

Plan of attack at the moment is to get the exhaust off tomorrow and also try get the down pipes off to expose the turbos.

 

 

A little more work on the zed again tonight,

Had to get the exhaust and down pipes off so that i could inspect the turbos.

Took me a quick 30 min to drop the exhaust but the down pipes took some more time as they were wrapped in fiber heat wrap which

is simply the devils stuff and should be messed with.

After all that was off it took an hour to remove 4 bolts and 4 nuts from the down pipes to get them off.

 

 

 

All this to access the spindle's of the turbos.

There is a tiny bit of play with back and forth motion on the shaft but not side to side and there is no marks on the inner casing to suggest the spindle touched the casing.

You certainly don't have much luck do you?! Persistence is all it takes. Keep at it you'll get there in the end!

Here we go again, starter, prop and gearbox out !

All fluids drained, harness off and pipes disconnected.

Apart from taking it back off the jack stands we are ready to pull the engine again.

Also tested the oil the came out the engine and no smell of fuel and also run a powerful magnet over everything and all was good on that too.

Engine was pulled today.

This is becoming a more familiar setting in my garage than i want.

Less than an hour or so later all the extras on the engine was stripped off too.

Great build bro. Looks like you’ve run into some unlucky issues but you’ve persisted through and your car is looking really good especially in that colour. 
keep it up and I hope to see the car in person in the coming years when I can attend some meets and shows in my z32.

It seems you may need some new turbos? I have 2 sets of brand new Garret CHRAs for sale from czp as i bought them and got my hands on some other turbos for cheap, so don't need these

999 on ebay for a set or 900 in cash/ bank transfer. They're 1200 usd plus shipping & import duty usually.

I have 4 for sale, so 2 sets to suit 2 cars. Can provide receipts from czp that are only a week old.

Cant believe its been so long since i dont an update here.

What i can say is my zed done more miles today that it has even done in the last 7 years.

Pushed it it long term home, loaded onto a tilting flatbed and moved to my own garage in Irvine.

Plan now to collect the engine next week and work on getting it fitted soon as my holiday break is over.
