Alright guys and gals. Finally got a z32. 1991. Twin turbo manual. Very happy. It does however look a bit tired on the paint but nothing I can't sort there. Done 90000. Mechanically it's great. No smoke. Boost needle where it should be. Sounds great. New timing belt. Very happy. However. What are the tell tail signs the clutch is going?

Pictures later date as I don't know how to put them on as I am on my phone aha

I had a misfire that took an age to isolate, after checking all the injectors, connectors and everything else associated i decided to take a look at the ecu and low and behold, i had a burnt out pin, which turned out to be injector number three. The board was too badly burnt around the pin to resolder, so i used a wire tail to link the continuity and hey presto my misfire disappeared.

After checking all your connections in the engine bay, at least worth a look into the ecu, once apart it will be very obvious if there is a burned out pin.

Right. Checked the ecu and it's absolutely fine.

However I have ran it for a bit and I only use supreme fuel.

I tried some injector cleaner in the fuel system and it seems to have got a lot better. The injectors that were put in were used and 2 years old but they were in the resistance range. I am hoping that they just need to be flushed... I will see what they are like over the weekend

have you done a compression test Joel or checked spark on the cylinders, the injectors you had were cleaned with new seals and filters fitted.

Ah fair enough jimmer. The plugs are new. Put them in about 2000 mile ago and the compression test... I have a tester but the adapter doesn't fit aha

Just read it properly... I will check the spark later :)

You need to locate the cylinder at fault first and foremost. Then diagnose why, fuel, spark, compression, timing unlikely if it's one that's wrong. Most likely duff wiring but your shooting in the dark till then.

Have you spoken to Mikey Bean about this? Did he hand it back on 5 cylinders!? Why didn't he rectify the issue if it's only a connector issue?

Good point!

I think need to be more clear...

its missing but it is on all 6. The exhaust jas a slight break in the tone. My fault. should have been more clear

The main symtom of this missing is at low revs sometimes it feels like it's holding back and then it gets more power. The break of the tone from the exhaust. That's it really. Haven't had any other problems. Starts great cold and hot.

I can only tell you of my misfire experience, which like yours wasn't obviously on any one cylinder, cut a long story short my driver side 02 sensor was 'dead' or 'stuck' and it caused a misfire type symptom which was most noticeable at part throttle, low revs.

On the suggestion of another forum member, I disconnected both of them and immediately the car ran fine just slightly rich. I ran the car like this for a few months without issue. DataScan confirmed the dead sensor, the on screen dial on the RH bank wasn't sweeping properly.

I have recently replaced both of them with genuine parts and now it runs even sweeter!

Disconnecting them is really easy and so worth a try. Its also worth noting, the dead/stuck sensor didn't throw a fault code.

Mine have already been disconnected due to giving off a bad reading.

I thought they would be the problem but nope :)

From January:

Right. I personally don't think it's had a remap. I could be wrong. Just because it's running at quite high boost and only making 320 hp

Have you determined if it's been mapped to suit the boost yet?

Compression test results?

Hey Noz. The ecu does have a chip on it but has no name on it. God knows what it is.

Haven't done compression test yet as my adapter doesn't fit

Ordered a series 2 ptu with harness etc off someone on here 80 quid. Had a but of trouble with mine earlier on in the year with idle hunting etc. Hoping this will help it :)

  • 2 weeks later...

Series 2 ptu installed aswell as a new fuel filter and osram night breaker bulbs. Also an abflug front nose. Runs much better but still a slight miss.

checked the spark plugs and they are NGK plugs but cold ones and because of the idling I do because of traffic they have fouled... getting some standard ones delivered today see what that will do :)

Abflug nose looks spot on mate, do you like it?

I quite like the ABFlug nose panel as far as aftermarket nose panels go.....the 'Insane' sticker really does it no favours though unfortunately.

What's with the joining pipe between the two intakes?

What's with the joining pipe between the two intakes?

Baz love it mate thankyou and that joining pipe is like a balance bar but the car doesn't really need it as it's balanced further up as we know
