1995 Silver Series IV Slicktop Version S - Taking To Another Level

Took many items off my engine and have sent them to a metal polisher just a few miles from me and below are the results of his and my work :cool3:.

This is my aftermarket radiator bracket, it was or is stainless steel but now highly polished. The SLICKTOP plate was made by TwinTurboRich and I've had this powder coated and bolts on with some stainless steel allen capped nuts and bolts.

This is my Tokyo Auto cooling panel, original these come in silver or blue from z32-zone in Japan, mine was silver and the polisher told me it was anodized but now polished up as you can see. The logo was originally silver and riveted on, I drilled these out and had it powder coated, again bolted on using the same attractive stainless bolts.

Then the usual polished up water pipes, these will be used with red silicone hoses and mikalor t-clamps

Finally for this post, had my Altia sills polished, this removed many many scratches incurred from over the years, now I have a mirror finish.

    More pictures ?.

  • More also on the digital AC in the days to come, I always had the manual pod on the 94 but with the white 95 providing the digital one I have migrated the full loom from that LWB into my 95 SWB, this

I’m sure the rear centre light panel isn’t the only item doubled up. Why hold onto two, that’s just greedy?

I've said this many times before, i am being let down with my re spray guy but my car is coming to no harm in my garage, anyway it gives me time, loads of time actually to get together brand new parts or great condition 2nd hand parts and the glass below falls very well in the latter category.

My original glass was quite badly scratched and my attempts to polish them was not to my satisfaction - i had too much distortion.

I did have some bronze glass fitted for a while but this of course did not match all the rest on my series 4 late 1994 .

So collected on Thursday from Slick Pete's home, here we have some 1996 SWB green tint glass, removed from Bob's car apparently - I am incredibly happy finding this perfectly matching part and in fabulous condition, thanks Pete :thumbup1:.

And Pete is equally happy to have thinned out his spares collection even further.

It was good to meet mate.

Just a pity the M1 accident made your day longer than it should have been.

Nice work! Good quality blue glass is as rare as hens teeth which means that green glass in good condition is as rare as a truthful politician!

Tell me about it !!!

After a rename of my thread, time for an update, much progress as been made....

This below is a slip ring that I have had for many years and was the one I thought I needed for my late 94, the plug however is wrong, hence the connectors, bottom right in the picture you'll notice, not sure which year, model, country these are for but it's not mine.

It does have two ribbon connectors, one attaches to the airbag and the other is for the horn two buttons.

image6.jpg

And this is the steering wheel that said slip ring fits with locator lugs at 12 and 6 o'clock and has this access panel on the lower rear.

image5.jpg

Right then, access panel, when I got the car there was an aftermarket steering wheel fitted, so in 2009 I found this piece under the seat and it was stored for many years and after some time I realized it must be from the original wheel, the one I need, but variations have led to my head scratching.

image1.jpg

I saw a 1995 car for sale 50 miles from me with an aftermarket steering wheel fitted, I asked 'have you the original wheel and ring'? Yes he replied so I got myself on there and bought both. He told me he had sold the car in the meantime, buyer didn't want or never mentioned the oem wheel, the airbag was blazing away I might mention, and so it was there for me, the seller did also say that he fit the original equipment at MOT time, further proof that these worked a treat.....result I thought.

image7.jpg

So documenting further and finally after 9 years these are the correct 100% parts for my car, I now know that the brown plug goes to the plug under the steering column, the slip ring white plug goes to the centre plug on the steering wheel module, then you have a plug to the horn and the yellow connector to the airbag itself.

I had my steering wheel refurbished by Hide 'n' Seat in 2017, beautiful it is with alcantara and perforated leather but it's the wrong one :crying:.

It's the one on the right in this picture below, I will point out that the 'correct' one recently bought, the left one, as many more holes in the chassis and a wider opening.

image10.jpg

So of course not wanting to pay again for a steering wheel refurbishment and much swarf later, drilling holes, tapping, etc, I end up with this.....

image11.jpg

And with everything back together, I now have a spare, red badge migrated over - this is a must have !!!

image2.jpg

Fun if you want to call it, for that extra touch I slopped in some red on the horn symbols :detective:.

My April 95 donor was bought with the thought to migrate over all its SRS crash sensors, I had got thinking that mine had them removed by a previous owner.

Having acquired the above mentioned wheel I thought try on my donor, I was told it was all working as it should and so it was.

I then moved onto my own and not knowing but hoping that it would work I put everything back together and here's a short vid, blurry but for those that don't know the airbag light is centre top :):thumbup1: back of the net !!!

I do remember when I used to drive my car, over 2 years ago now , that I felt the mid range Nokian tyres that I went for on the fronts were not up to much.

So after much pondering I had a package delivered today :detective:.

IMG_0528.jpg

As far as i can tell i'm happy with the 255/40/17 Vredestein Ultrac Sessanta's on the rear and so wanting something very sticky and after reading review after review, I bought a couple of Yok's in exactly the same size as before and yes I know a 40 profile is wrong but aesthetically I prefer it and that's all that matters .

235/40/17 Yokohama Advan Neova AD08R, so I like tyres with long names :helpsmilie:.

An interesting choice Andy.

With a 200 treadwear number that should prove quite grippy when warm.

There are enough grooves to clear water in most circumstances.

The stiff trackday sidewall will keep it nicely planted on cornering.

I suspect caution will be required on very wet motorway surfaces.

IMO

Having a donor is great, especially one exactly the same age, you can look at it all around and swap at will, for instance I've always liked the fuel pipes with the swiss cheese holed sheaths, I've never had them, so I carefully removed and one by one migrated them over....

IMG_0580.jpg

And the one near the throttle cable was not left out, I also took the opportunity to replace other fuel pipes and some will notice I used where I could the spring type clamps, mostly the 12mm ones.

OEM throttle cover fitted for a short while anyway, it's a n/a one, tt ones have a red strip fyi.

IMG_0583.jpg

Next, I have the bonnet struts and these lift it higher than you would with the bonnet stay which put strain on the screen wash pipes, so noticing the donor had a black clamp that mine hadn't, I took off the wing that I had put back on the day before and re routed slightly giving me a few inches to play with, more job satisfaction .

IMG_0584.jpg

And finally, the donor being a n/a had a cable routed with these two clamps, mine having electronic hicas I had nothing here and so I thought i'm having those and I managed to put them to use you'll notice.

Now for the purists out there, notice the bleed nipple, the donor had a rubber cap still in place and yes you've guessed it - migrated over :).
