Firstly I would like to wish all members (except Porker ) a happy new year and hope you all had a good xmas! Secondly my sister reversed into the front of my Z today I have a Scarab front on SWB jap spec which is now badly smashed, also one of the front fogs is broken. Sis has said I can claim on her insurance so what I need to know is :- Will I be able to claim for a new 99 OEM front bumper http://www.300zx.co.uk/forums/ubbforum/Forum1/HTML/004588.html as I prefer the look and the Scarab is a pain in the arse for speed humps, or will the insurance insist on a like for like replacement? If insurance agree will Nissan automatically choose the n…

Hi folks, I need to neutralise some battery acid that spewed out of my battery due to an over reactive regulator. The acid has hit the inner body work of the car and has started to dicolour the paintwork ie, its eating it. I've been told that I need to mix a paste of Baking soda and water and put on the affected areas and then rinse off with water. Where can I get baking soda from? Is it the same as Bicarbonate of Soda? Thanks.

Can the ignition timing be checked static or must a timing light be used? I've never heard any pinking or pre ignition on mine even with the cheapest 95 octane supermarket fuel. Made me think it was maybe set up well retarded. Also notice a hesitation on 2nd to 3rd (auto)when cold. The autobox sends a retard ignition timing signal to the ecu at the change point to damp the change and it seems to me that the hesitation could be due to retarding an already retarded ignition even further. Dont notice any hesitation when warmed up.

And, while we're at it, another problem with me lights on me Jap spec... Have just installed new lamps for the dipped beam, following the instructions to convert a UK Halfords 453 to fit the Jap connector... everything fine, works a treat!!! Trouble is, ever since I've had the car, and not just with these new lamps, I seem to have a 'condensation' problem with the dipped beams. After the lights have been on for just a few minutes, I get a sort of condensation on the INSIDE of the main headlamp lens (like the sort of thing you get if you breath on a piece of glass) and it's really annoying me!! Not only must it be reducing effectiveness, but it looks arse!!! …

Just in the process of sorting out the lights around my Jap spec TT.... Successfully done the DIY bit for the dipped beam lamps, but now I have a problem with the 'sidelights'. The supposed sidelights on the front of the car (the UK manual I have referes to them as 'clearance' lights) seemingly have the wrong bulbs in - one is brighter than the other. So I want to get in a change the lamps. Trouble is, I can't!!! The (UK) manual says there should be two screws on the lens, one either side. Trouble is, there's only one screw (positioned on the outer side of the lens) that just seems to turn and turn without releasing. There also seems to be 2x 1cm separate pieces of …

I'm sure you guys and gals have had this at one time or another and I'm sure that you enjoy it but I was wondering how you felt about there being a dedicated technical library of known faults and remedies. Obviously it would not solve all problems that arise but it would give passers-by, new comers and forgetful bastards like myself from harassing people about the same boring issue. I know this means shed loads of work for the administrator boys and at this point they are probably thinking(FFS), but there have been times when the same question has come up in the forum multiple times in the past 3 months that I know of, and I'm relatively new to the site. If you …

I knew the mpg wouldn't be great on a Z when I bought it but I can only get about 18mpg even when on long journeys. What kind of mpg are you guys getting? I only really use the car to go to work & back (4 miles each way) about 120 miles a week. Even when I resist booting it I still only manage about 17mpg. Is this normal or is somthing a bit dodgy? Pity really because in my old FTO I could redline it in every gear & it would still do about 25mpg. Having to restrain myself in the Z as every time I put my foot down I remember how much it is costing me when the Turbos kick in. Still, the Z is loads more fun & a shit load faster, arse end g…
