Fuel Consumption

I knew the mpg wouldn't be great on a Z when I bought it but I can only get about 18mpg even when on long journeys.

What kind of mpg are you guys getting?

I only really use the car to go to work & back (4 miles each way) about 120 miles a week. Even when I resist booting it I still only manage about 17mpg.

Is this normal or is somthing a bit dodgy?

Pity really because in my old FTO I could redline it in every gear & it would still do about 25mpg.

Having to restrain myself in the Z as every time I put my foot down I remember how much it is costing me when the Turbos kick in.

Still, the Z is loads more fun & a shit load faster, arse end gets a bit slidey in this weather though, don't it?

That seems OK for short journeys. The engine won't even have warmed up in that time, so I'm sure you're not wellying it to much, right ?!?

When the engine is initially started the fuel system actually pumps in TWICE as much fuel as when warm (well they fire on every stroke anyway).

Welcome to the land of the Z.

High repair bills and nothing to the gallon

That sounds about spot on, my figures are:

Max mpg = 30.97

Min mpg = 14.79

Average mpg = 19.54

That's over 10,000 mls of all types of driving.

I think what you must remember is that the FTO is a totally different beast, 1800 or 2000cc and only 4cyl, and front wheel drive.

Tim

I'm getting about 230 miles before the petrol light comes on.

I drive to work 23 miles each way and for the first 3 minutes I'm on tick over, for the next 10 minutes I do not go above 4K revs and for the rest of the journey, I drive how I please. I feel that this is a safe way to start a journey with minimum engine and turbo wear.

Going on this, you should not be even getting it to full boost if you are only driving 4 miles to work.

I dont get too good milage, but I have had a strong smell of petrol for a while, but now that is fixed it seems to help.

I drove to the Lakes at 55 all the way, keeping the revs at 2000rmp or just over and on the way back I was doing 70 80 all the way and I got about the same mileage

I get no less than 300 miles from a tank full for driving to work and back. On a long journey I get 375 from a tank full. smile.gif

375 miles to a tank? How the hell do you manage that? You sure yours is a TT or is your place of work at the bottom of a very long hill on which you coast?

I'm happy if I get 280 to a tank. What am I doing wrong?

Yeah, I did St.Helens to Luton and back on one tank full of fuel. Was only fumes left when I got back!!

Well, When cold, dont take it above 2000 rpm, change up to the best gear as soon possible, and dont cruise above 85mph...

280 isnt bad if you have lots of short journeys, they kill it for fuel. I could go through a tank in a week of short journeys, I might as well just pour the stuff on the floor!

240...tops in my z...and commute weekly between Glasgow and Manchester.....

375 from a tank???? where the AA involved?? I dream of figures like that!!!

I must admit, although my journey to work is 23 miles, it is full of roundabouts and traffic lights. There is however a 5 mile stretch which I do at about 85-95. As far as starting off, I am religious about the 3 minute tickover and I dont go above 3K revs for the first 10 mintues of the journey. I guess I will have to start using the motorway.

375 miles!!! Boo hoo hoo (wimpers off in to a corner and sobs.)

Seems my mpg is pretty normal then, just gonna have to come up with a foolproof method of stealing petrol!

Tim: The FTO is a 2000cc V6, agree with you though - missing two vital ingredients the extra 1000cc and a couple of turbos smile.gif

Don't forget the Grin factor too. biggrin.gif

Ur odometer is in km/h and not mph as its not possible to get 375 miles from i zx........375 km = 235 Miles which is more like it

CheerZ

You are correct in that my odometer is in kms but I got 600 kms from a tank. I went there and back to Luton without stopping or filling up. 600/1.6 = 375 miles.

I regularly get between 450 and 500 driving to work and back which is 18miles each way, a mixture of motorway, country roads and start stop traffic lights....

Hhhmmmmm?????(Scratches head in confusion)

I have a Japanese import, so my odometer reads in kilometers so to convert kms to miles I divide by 1.6....so 600kms = 375 miles 450kms = 281 miles etc.

Just read, that petrol is due to go up to about 80p a litre over the next six months. Due to Opec, producing 150 million less barrels a day. Plus the Middle east is getting more unstable. This is set to make oil go up 7%

So enjoy driving while you can

DOH!

Sorry Bilky,

I didn't mean, "Help - what does the calculation mean" What I was thinking was and what I am still amazed at is "How the F*ck does he get 375 miles etc etc ...............!"

smile.gif

stuart opec only produce 26.09 million barrels a day lol.

and it is due for 7 p per litre.

i get 330 miles to a tank on the motorway.

around 200-220 in town frown.gif

the coversion for miles is 160.9344 making 600 km 372.8227 miles lol

i am sooooooooo bored it is scary.

Ok, its all well and good calculating how many miles you get out of a tank. But remember to not drive to the bottom of the tank unless you have no option.

Loads of shit and water at the bottom of everyones tank, best it stays there.

It amazed me as well, but its great on the motorway! The guage hardly moves compared to normal driving. Have you modified your car? Mine is completely stock. Petrol costs me 68.9p per litre and usually costs about £40 to fill it - I assume the petrol tanks are the same size on all 300's?

I only get that kind of mileage on a full motorway job though - I have an auto as well.

I just watch the boost and keep it steady and thats about it really.

You guys really milked that one!

I must admit (375) seems like a fairy tale!

I remember when I was thinking of getting the car, people were saying it will do bad mileage. I told them, it says it does 30mpg (Im my dreams) and hold 72 litres. Thats 475 miles to a tank.

Hahahahahaha biggrin.gif

I laugh now. Im lucky to get about 250 out of a tank.

Stuart

ours did 140 miles on half a tank on the way back from the docks, so double that and its 280 on a full tank so about right.
