Hi guys, need some help in assisting a fellow zedder who has fallen victim of a main dealer continually changing part in the vague hope of curing what sounds like a single lifter noise problem Right 1994 UK manual chap bought it with what was described as one sticky lifter that was occassionally noisy. After all manner of oil changes and flushes done at his local Nissan dealer the problem pesisted, so on their advise all 48 lifters were changed at a cost of £2200 !!!! Guess what when he picked it up?..........yep it was still ticking!! 9 months and a whole lot of legal threats and papers have done nothing (Nissan have some big unbeatable legal d…

Yeah, alright... stop looking at me like that! So I was watching some afternoon kiddies TV in bed yesterday - it'd been a long night. There's some tasty female presenter waffling on about something or other - I didn't have the sound on to start, cos hey, ya know - I didn't need it. Then she starts demonstrating a pair of inflatable speakers and I'm all: no way! But it seems to me this could be a pretty neat idea. I'm missing some heavy gut-shaking bass in my motor, but I'm not about to start adding tonnes of extra weight just to get it. If anything, I wanna chuck out weight. And besides, I still need enough space to jam in a couple of snowboards. So... an i…

Hi All, I was wondering if anyone could help me out on this one. I read an article in Jap Cars magazine and it states you can adjust the stiffness of the dampers using the handbrake!...Is this correct?...If so how do you do it.? Many thanks. Chris

Guys, Did a long journey up north a few days ago to visit my parents, and noticed my car's vibration has come back a bit stronger. I mostly feel it through the steering wheel around 70-80mph (and felt it very strongly once while braking), but it's there in very small amounts a lot of the time. Had the wheels balanced a while ago which helped but didn't get rid of all the vibration, and like I say, its back stronger now. I reckon it might be the front discs, what do you reckon? I'm about to head out to a local garage and get it looked at, so I was just wondering if anyone had a average price off-hand for a pair of front discs? Any other ideas on a possible cause wou…

Does anyone know if anyone makes such a thing with an aplication to fit the 300. Can remember some articles from years ago featuring a unit in an old edition of Max Power (from the early days, before it became one big advert rag). At the time it was seen as the alternative to twin battery installs. Anyway, answer apreciated as I think my alternator is faulty. Gonna try cleaning contacts tonight but would like to pursue this idea for a later planned ICE install. Cheers peeps! Brent:confused:

Well....further to my last thread....my clutch gave up the ghost on Sunday...mwarrr... :( But I spent a pleasant hour () sitting on the side of the A329M watching drifting lorries and cars wandering across the lanes into the hard shoulder while I sat on the grass praying for them not to hit my car, waiting for AA to show up... So...symptoms were as follows : Driving along at a comfortable 70mph (honestly), revs suddenly slipped up to 5000rpm. Lost power - was almost like the car was in neutral. Pulled over to hard shoulder. Turned off engine after a wee idle for the turbos. Re-started engine, put car in gear, foot on accelerator and smoke po…

Yeah we have fights, keyboard ninjas(I'm at sixth dan so beware) but to be honest I love these places! Why??? I'll tell you why! We recently bought a 200 for me Mrs T and it's playing up. My mate over the road worked for Nelson for 12 years(easy, don't hold that against him...he's a good lad and knows a few moves) and had the cambelt replaced. Top job but we had a rattling before he did the cambelt and the car fired up straight away after he'd done the timing belt. He ran the car at about 2K RPM and the rattle started...engine juddered and conked! We got fuel coming through but very weak spark/no spark on cranking. Anyway! He did ECU dia…

Just a quick question: what are peoples views on fitting bonnet vents? It seems like a good diea, considering the heat from the engine/turbos, but what do people think? Thanx Seb

It's a quick one... does the ECU control the HICAS system? I read that HICAS is /supposed/ to only work over 30 mph, yet Henri finds it works much lower. AndyP's comparison chart says UK spec has a high-speed version of HICAS. So is it all down to the EPROM code? And can it be tuned?

Hi, While I was driving yesterday night, my mate had the passenger's light on for quite a while ( 20' at least ). Then, all of a sudden, the dashboard illumination gone, and the air-con illumination itensity reduced. Switching off the passenger's light had immediate effect, the dashboard illumination was back and the air-con illumination the same as usuall. Any suggestions what can go wrong and how to fix it ? Thanks

The system has been bled more times than I've had hot dinners and it's still reacting like I've got air inside when warm (not even hot), the clutch almost disengages or has twice. Also when cold the pedal is right on the floor to disengage. Yes, it's been bled normally, power bled, had a 300 pro bleed it, front of car raised and not raised etc etc, one time I alternated between top and bottom 6+ times with loads of fluid. I can only assume one of the boosters is failing... there is no fluid leaking that I can see. Any idea how to work out which one... And yes, they were both replaced already, but about 5-6 years ago maybe longer? If it's the slave I'm temp…

Hi guy`s have an observation to dicuss about ecu upgrades done by a UK tuning company. (No Names ) Have dealt with 2 Zed`s in a fortnight which have "Boost Upgrades" prior to me dealing with them and both detting like crazy! On both cars the Actuators had been connected together and bleed jets fitted, the install looking very neat and using crimp type pipe connectors. However on both cars the standard eprom was in place and the safety boost solenoids disconnected. On both cars fitting a corret upgraded eprom and rearranging the pipework to use boost jets as apposed bleed jets sorted the detting also I reconnected the safety boost solenoids. The …

Just done 750 miles over the weekend from Friday till last night. Took the Z to join some friends on a pilgrimage of driving spirituality with a modded Scooby STI, a stock BMW 330 diesel Sport driven by an ex Scooby driver (and have to forgive me bro for dropping out with his Boxter cos he had to work the weekend.) Forget the Nurburgring if you are in the north half of the country you have to go to the far north west Scottish Highlands. Fabulous roads, loads of sweeping S bends, snow covered mountains and awesome scenery. Nobody about if you go outside the tourist season. Generally only yourself and the odd sheep at any risk. While most of the country was batter…

Rolling road used in my case was a Bosch model which indeed gives rwhp also but the flywheel figures are the ones printed out.In my case the rear wheel figures are unfortunately out of memory as it hold only 10 runs and these are since long passed since my dyno. But some interesting facts anyway: -the transmission losses, measured after the run ,with the clutch depressed are adapted if the power is increased. Indeed , as a stock car with say 100 hp is tuned to 150 hp some 15% or 20 hp are said to be transmission losses. If that car is tuned again to 200 hp then it would be wrong to assume the losses still to be 20 hp ; BUT this is what is measured as the c…
