Have any of you lot had to make this repair - Any helpful hints and tips? I am talking about the aircon rad that sits in front of the main engine cooling rad (and behind the other dozen little rads / fans / air box - aargh). I'm curious what is the best approach. Even if I undo all the bolts in situ - will I need to take the front bumper off to get it out? Alternately does it come out with the main engine cooling rad? Thanks in advance for the benefit of your experience.

Hi guys bit of a tech `q` Having done a customer`s cam seals last week, part of the job was naturally to remove the cam sprockets, as part of this is to remove the variable cams end plates I got to see some different springs to that are normally fitted. The springs normally fitted are 5 coils which press to gether easily with the thumb and forefinger, these however were 4 coils of thicker material and needed two hands to press together!! Anyone dealt with this before and would it seem likely to assume this is an upgrade ??? or a method of delaying the variable cam timing activation? (rev wise) or has some one fitted the wrong ones?? incidently the zed ran jus…

I have to fit longer wheel studs to the front of my Z, due to bigger discs with bell and 18" wheels, currently only get 3-4 turns with the nuts which not happy with. Managed to get some from Nismo ($8 ea) but question is do originals just bang out or need to be pressed out? And I presume will have to take off that shitty dust gaurd thing-that will not be going back as I reckon without it might aid the cooling, a little. Any advice will be gratefully received. Cheers guys. James.

Below is the procedure for TT.NET for changing fuel filter. They say the relay is under the drivers fotwell. This is for a left hand drive Z. Just had a look at mine and there is no sign of it on the right hand side of the car. Is it near the ECU?? Another of the simple DIY jobs on the Z. A clogged fuel filter can cause a lot of problems from simple hesitation to cratering an 1. Remove the driver's kickpanel, 2 screws are in the side of the panel, 2 are in the firewall, the last one is under the carpet by the dead pedal (5 x phillips). Remove the first two screws of the door jamb's plastic trim (2 x phillips). The kickpanel interlocks with the front edge o…

This is not your usual car for sale item - I'm sincerely looking for advice, rather than trying to flog you lot my car (For one thing, I expect most of you already have one!). I doubt I'm unique in having looked out the window this morning and thought 'I know it's a great car but, I need the money, and it's not very sensible...' For me this has been inspired by the fact that I'm losing one job at Xmas (Seasons greetings - thanks a lot!), and its looking like the next will be in the mountains. (Whilst this is the perfect car to commute 700 miles in many respects - its fairly expensive to run, and a bit silly in the snow and ice! I will be gutted to see it go, but I'm…

Thanks for the replies..... You've talked me into a pair so come on guys the moneys waiting. Forgot to mention that the Z is a 1990/91 2+2 Jap standard suspension. Would like to upgrade but a 60,000 mile service on monday has left me potless at the moment. Looking for some quickly at the moment as it has exploded and left half the Iraqi oil reserve on my drive. Travel 60 miles a day so Jez or Andy please reply ASAP. Sorry took so long to come back, all work and no play makes Jack a sad Z owner....... Had the immobiliser unit die on my auto this week also, left stranded in park with no ignition. Nice..... Does anyone know a way round rele…

A friend of mine's mechanic mate had to drive a customer's Twin Turbo ZX briefly after some work was done on it, and he reported to my firend that he thought 'it wasn't actually that fast'. Was he talking out of his arse?

Has anyone else got one of these? If so I have heard you can adjust some of the settings. Can you turn the auto-arming off as this is driving me crazy!!!!!! Every time I have to leave it for a short while I have to leave a dorr open! Now that cannot be good for security. I may be getting a new alarm soon. Does anyone have any suggestions on a good one with remote start? Cheerz Ivan :D

when i took my zed to rockingham and was on the track, i noticed that the water temp was getting hot. we were doing a lot of 7000rpm in 2nd gear round the windy parts of the track. Did the car get hot just cause of high speed at low gear, and therefore not enough air to cool? i found that it cooled down if i did half a lap at ease. however, i think it got really hot (near the red) when the big ends went, but it was hard to keep an eye on the controls whilst chasing a porsche 911! i checked the water level and it hasnt lost anything and the oil level is good as well. sshould i get bonnett vents? and do they do any good? cheers steve

Right many of u know by now my car don't rev over 5500revs, it just stops there. 5Mins ago took the car out to just clear away cobwebs, got back, stopped on my drive and about 10 seconds later it conked out. It wont restart. I will try it later when its had time to cool down or whatever. Could this be a failed PTU? If it is could this be the cause of my troubles? Reading a TVR mag some geezer said his car wouldnt rev over 5.5K due to nackered solenoid. Im not sure exactly what the PTU does but its in the same system as the ignition? Thanks 4 any help. Rob

HI All, I must be the newest kid on the 300 block . I've been looking to buy a 300 for a while now, and as I'm not exactly over endowed with cash or the heir to a large fortune I need to keep running costs under control. Would anyone car to advise me on the auto / manual issue and the turbo / na aspect. I am not a speed freak, I just love the shape of the thing, but would not expect to be doing 160 mph anywhere, anytime, owing largely to cowardice ! Also it would be really helpfull if anyone could tell me few of the really obvious things to look out for - I'm not a complete idiot, but gurgling avi valves are news to me! Cheers, Jeff activearts Ps…

Ok im experiencing some strange goings at the moment with my 300zx and wonder if anyone can shed any light on it . When i accelarate hard im noticing that the engine gets to a point where its seems to be revving but the power is not there. As if the drive cuts out at a certain point. Have noticed on the boost gauge that when it gets to about 7 it fails to go any further.. Can anyone tell me if this is the first signs of turbo trouble or has the car gone into saftey boost ( i've heard it mentioned a few times on the forum but dont know what causes the car to switch to this mode ) Is there a few things that may cause this safety boost ?? Fault temp sensor etc …

My £20 membership is on its way to Craig before you think I'm cheeky for advertising on this bit of the forum! Anyway, nothing too exciting for sale, just a PTU for £100. Oh, and if anyone running 18's needs a part worn, I have an excellent nick Michelin Pilot Sport 275/35/18 £60. (check out Kwik-fit price of £362!) Take it easy. James.

Can anyone help please? There's a strange noise which my car makes every now and then. It seems to happen when driving not particularly fast. When the turbo gauge reaches about halfway and then goes back again the noise happens then. I've been told it's most probably the turbo wastegate and is perfectly normal. Does everyone else with a TT get this awful noise (hard to describe but sounds like a metalic squeak only a lot deeper!!) This spoils an otherwise lovely engine/exhaust sound and I'm sick of saying to any new passengers, when they say "What was that noise?" "Oh that,I'ts only the turbo wastegates,I'ts pefectly normal(I think?)" Cheers, F.T.

Something funny happening today When engine cold on startup but foot on accelerator and the revs drop to nearly 0 before coming back and increasing. Nearly caused me to crash this morning on roundabout. Saw gap on roundabout. But the boot down to go. The revs dropped instead of increasing car nearly cut out , and took approx 2 secs to recover. Anyone have this problem before Cheerz Roy
