General Discussions - 300ZX Related

Hello, Hope this isn't a stoopid question, but I've got a hole in my exhaust about the size of a 1p. Its on the last bend just before the backbox. Is this an MOT failure (test on monday). Can I just patch it for now until i can afford to buy a nice new one? Also, I've got a funny noise coming from the top/front of the engine. The only way I can describe it is a kind of rubbing noise, like when bearings are wearing??. Its just audible at idle, gets a little noisier at about 3000rpm, then disappears after about 3500rpm.. Any ideas wot it could be.. nothing too expensive I'm praying :( Thanks in advance for any answers..:D Malibu

K - not looking to sell the Z unlike the usual trend - its been way too reliable workhorse and so has anyone fitted a baby seat into theirs and if so how did they do it? I think I'll need to put UK seatbelts into the back though to replace the Jap ones as its an import.

Started to look for some alloy wheels and need to know the p.c.d. and the offset , can any one help with this info:slap: And has anyone fitted an ALC, to there auto , what differences have you noticed , is it worth it?...cheers!!

Next question from me......... (89 TT Auto) When coming to a stop and then to pull away my car seems to hesitate as if it is going to stall but doesnt? Is this something that is common and easy to fix?? Oh and it did cut out once too, but started straight away with no probs. My idle revs are: Park - 900 All the rest 500/600 Does this seem low? and if so can I just adjust the idle speed? Thanks Ant:confused:

Recently when my zed is started from cold it jumps rpm. For example I could be in 3rd and I accelerate from about 3000 rpm, it jumps to about 4000rpm and then back to about 3500 rpm. I feel a little extra power surge when it does this, but why? Cheerz!

OK - you must all have laughed when I tried to turn the radio down using the air handling pod... :p However out again today in a very hopeful contender, right colour, right spec and standard (not tuned er... yet). At the start of the test drive the inducators went U/S - garage chap said it was the hazard switch happened a lot and would of course be fixed. Ten minutes into the test drive the speedo failed (ahh thinks I the speed sensor has faulted) then about two minutes later the HCAS light came on. The auto box was a bit jerky initially but that smoothed out. And I got to light up the turbos but only briefly as the road seemed to run out rapidly. OK …

I have a MINES ecu which as I understand comes out of the factory set up to run with 440cc or 550cc injectors , not 370cc injectors. I have been running the ecu with standard 370cc injectors at 14psi with no problems but will be having the tubs replaced next week with new standard tubs, so was going to put some 555's in at the same time to be able to run 16.5 psi . now my question is if the ecu has been set up to run on 440cc injectors will it run like a bag of nails if I use 555cc injectors ?? Ive just been readin a back issue of jap performance (zx buyers guide)and they said when comparing the uk & jap spec that the jap spec has a 1.5 inch resrictor in the exhaust.If this is true were about is it?Looked on the search but cudnt find anything????

As I've got a water leak somewhere and my engine bay needs brightening up, I'm trying to source a full set of cooling hoses, preferably red (blue would do). Any UK suppliers that you recommend? I've looked at Samco's site and they only seem to have a 2 hose kit available.

Right info needed please people! Right i've been told that a 200sx has T28 turbos, is this true? and you know whats comeing next domt you?, will the turbo off a 200sx fit the Zed?

Just talking to one of the GTO guys (bought my blitz stuff) and quite a few of them use a really nice system which we should be using!! Its a PDA system which interfaces directly with the ecu and a knock box and can display over 30 different parameters and it looks cool. I dont know if we have anything like this but i havnt heard of anything and best of all it only cost £250 including the sony pda which is peanuts for that kind of control of all your cars workings. After 6 months of painless Z motoring, had my fisrst problem last night. Filled up with petrol, unlocked car (by remote), went to start as normal and nothing - fuel pump primed, all electrical systems working, just no turn of starter motor. Called the RAC, after hunting about checking under bonnet fuses, stil nothing - my thoughts were leaning towards a lose starter motor wire or an imobilser problem. At this point, everything else was working, remote central locking, alarm fob, CD, all ignition lights etc. Then RAC man gets under the steering column and turns the key several times whilst poking some sort of device into the fuses under there. Just wanted to confirm that they are different from TT injectors in CC and colour?

Had the car for a week and a half, due to one thing and another, this afternoon was the first chance I've had to take it out ona dry sunny day for a blast around the countryside. The performance (and fuel consumption) are staggering - no effort required to make swift progress, car pulls in any gear at any speed, is a hoot when nailing it in 2nd or 3rd. Even more impressive is the acceleration in 4th from 80, pins me right in the seat! The noise it makes is superb as well, turns heads are you cruise past. Very very easy job - removed the door cards, removed the existing speakers (standard hitachi rubbish) and the metal plate they were screwed to, enlarged the holes in the door cards slightly and screwed the 6x9s into place. Make a big difference to the sound and look great. Need to figure out how to tackle the rear ones now!

Just purchased a pair Autometer oil pressure and temp gauges. The sender units that came with the gauges are not compatible with the Zed:( . Any ideas where I can buy some adapters to fit? Tried various searches but no luck. Cheers

I noticed a few little things which I have only noticed today. First there is a ticking noise at idle. I will get a sound clip of this in a second. The ticking goes when I rev the engine. Also, there is a lot of smoke coming from my exhausts.:cry: Here is a video of my car smoking. Its strange as its not really blue/purple. Its more grey. I is pouring out of one side and then stops. Also when I rev the engine a little I get puffs of grey smoke out then. It also sounds like it is misfiring if you listen to the video. Also at the end of the video is a ticking which has first occured today. I think I am coming towards deep trouble here unless people…

Hi All, Came out of my house yesterday, saw a big puddle under my engine. Looked like water.. but drive off the temperature gauge went all the way to the top after 5 mins of driving. I have coolant leaking from somewere under the engine toward the back, would it be ok to take the car to a normal garge for them to change the cooland pipes if thats where its leaking from? :cry: Or is it best to take the car too someone who knows zx's ? I have an aftermarket fog switch , which did have 3 wires going into it. I took the switch out to do something and for the life of me can't remember which wire goes to which connector spade, I thought I did it right but keep blowing the light fuse when I turn it on Its a 6 pin connector numbered 1-6 , pins 3 and 6 are not in use so what wire would go to what number ie earth to 4 , live to 2 etc Getting hacked off with replacing fuses :( Any help appreciated as always Ryan

i need to get the wheel hub off to put some longer bolts in! there is a small disc in the middle i presume i need to get out so i can get to the nut and split pin???? advice plz..or am i looking in the wrong place? thanks jay

Im still looking to buy one but it looks like I need a uk car and NOT an import down to insurance. Tesco (who Im with with my Supra Turbo) wants over £1000 for an import and only £450 for a UK TT. Does anyone know a good insurer for imports? Im 33 - full no claims, shouldnt be a problem

Anybody know which pipe you take off for the MOT to give the emission a helping hand :)
