Pipes

Hi All,

Came out of my house yesterday, saw a big puddle under my engine. Looked like water.. but drive off the temperature gauge went all the way to the top after 5 mins of driving.

I have coolant leaking from somewere under the engine toward the back, would it be ok to take the car to a normal garge for them to change the cooland pipes if thats where its leaking from?

Or is it best to take the car too someone who knows zx's ?

Thanks in advance, Alastair.

Because of the undertrays on the car , protecting the underside of engine etc , you can`t really tell where the water is coming from ,,,so get top the water up first and see how fast it comes out , it might be some thing you can see and fix your selve otherwise most garages should be able to at least tell you where the leak is coming from,,,,,good luck:D

Hi Alistair

I had the same thing a couple of weeks ago. Like JohnyD says, because of the undertray the coolant could be leaking from anywhere and running down the tray and out the back.

Mine was from the two little front hoses between the cam belt covers. You should be able to see the stains left by dry antifreeze splashed around the front of the engine if these are leaking. Someone here told me they only last about 3 years.

I also had a small leak starting from the waterpump, so I had it replaced at the same time.

Can you smell coolant after the engine has been running for a few miles, when fully hot?

Richard

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

Did not run the car for long, went about half a mile then the gauge went sky high. I have not run the car since, as I don't want it to over heat again. I am going to take it to my local garage tommorow, for them to put it on the ramps so to have a look where the leak is coming from.
