General Discussions - 300ZX Related

For those that have SBC-iD and PowerMeter-iD installed together in the DIN space below the head unit, how do you protect them from prying eyes? I tried covering them with an old Halfords DIN sized head unit cover but this doesn’t sit comfortably over the ID’s and keeps falling off. Are there any other covers available? Any suggestions much appreciated. Thanks

Well i gave up today!!! I found a fuel leack in the hose feeding the fuel filter Mark and i fixed it pulled the plug on the throtle position sencer and found it to be corroded and cleaned it up all ok, start the engin no problem running as smooth as butter, switch the engin off and pack every thing away gone to start her again no go we struggled fot a good 5 hours and no go we did a ECU test and found a problem on the crank positon sencer so we cleaned the crank position sencer and did another ECU test found that the coolant temp sencor is faulty so we cleaned it and done another ECU test and got the all clear. She still wont start, we did manage to get her running on 2 c…

Anyone got 18" wheels & Traction control. If so what setting you got for T & U i.e. Driven and Reference wheels ? I did have the stock wheel settings in there i.e. 00631 on the fronts (reference) 225/50 x 16 00627 on the backs (driven) 245/45 x 16 However now I have .... 00653 on the fronts (reference) 245/40 x 18 00642 on the backs (driven) 265/35 x 18 I have not changed any other settings and yet I now have slip at 0% slip !!!!. What tyres you guys got on and what settings you got in there ? And do you get any slip ?

Hi Guys I'm thinking of getting a combined GPS/ Radar-Laser detector. Does anyone have any experience of the Snooper S6R Neo? I notice that the actual radar/laser detector unit is quite bulky, so I'd probably install it in the air scoop just below the number plate. It would be more descrete and the makers claim it's weather proof. Thanks Jon

I'm in contact with the supplier who offered to make me up indiglo gauges a while back and he has offered me a different style now. He can make up silver faced dials that light up 6 indiglo colours. I'm not sure on priceing yet but would anyone be interested in these? Vijay

I've been trying to replace my clutch today. Exhaust came off easily, so did the starter, managed to remove all the bolts out off the bell housing as well. I've now spent 3 f**king hours trying to wiggle the gearbox out...and i've brought it to the edge of the fly wheel. What the f**k have i missed? I'm following the tt.net guide on clutch replacement but the gearbox just won't come off. Is it better to disconnect everthing and take the gearbox out or it it just a case off wiggling some more? Should i have the gearbox dropped down on the jack or should i try to pull it off level? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Stu.:cry:

Whats the difference? I have a manual TT car , is it worth me buying a stock auto ecu with a view to socketing it for a modded chip? The auto ecu I have in mind is cheap thats why I ask. Thanks for any help Mark

had my twin turbo dyno'd and its running 225bhp at the wheels what would this be at the fly wheel? is this low or normal?

Hello, Had the car two weeks and now my first worrying problem. When I accelerate (not hard) at about 2000-3000rpm there is this horrible noise from the front passenger side, sounds like something vibrating or something - anyone with any ideas? I dont think it is detenation as it is a completely standard car and I run it on Optimax and i thought detenation only occurs under hard acceleration? Hope someone can help as I am really paranoid about the 300ZX after reading all the problems that usually occur. Thanks in advance. Ant :(

I wonder if anyone could help... I have owned my Z for a couple of months now and I have always thought that it's not THAT quick. I have done an ECU test and it came up with 55. Anyway, I looked around and found a few sources that showed the speeds for each gear: 1st should be 43mph @ 7200 - I only get 35mph 2nd should be 72mph @ 7200 - I only get 65mph 3rd should be 107mph @7200 - I only get 97mph 4th should be 139mph @ 7200 - I only get 125mph (theorectically of course :o :D) 5th should be 165mph @ 6400 - well, I maxed out at 140mph, might have got 145 at a push (again, theoretical) Have I got a problem? if so, what can I do to solve it? …

anyone know the thread for number plate laws over here, mine is an import and i believe you can fit the smaller plates to these cars without breakin any laws

hi guys i need your help iam new on here as iam trying to buy a 300zx, ive just lost out on e-bay on one of your members cars. what i want to know is whats the best car to buy a manual or a auto?????? ive had a auto before, but not sure on these cars as ive heard so many stories about smaller turbos but faster 0-60??? iam not sure any help would he good. also ive got £4,000 and still looking for a 300zx anyone got 1 for sale i dont want a car with high milage. ive had to budgit for £4k as just bought a west wings body kit so just need a good car.

What's the best transmission fluid for the N/A auto box. I guess it's personal opinion (May be i should start a poll) but I would like to hear what you all think....

Just to confirm that im not going mad, can any one tell me, when your ignition is switched to the on position, but not started, does your battery warning light illuminate, because mine dont. I have checked the charge system which is now fine, but this light is really starting to get me at it!!!! Had a post not so long ago about early limiting, and ive been advised that the best idea is to have the car chipped. My car is a 1990, jap, manual, NA. I read on http://www.ztechz.net/turboupgradeforvg30dett all about ECU tuning and how to reprogram an ECU. This is a job that i could never do. The site gives a programme that i could use but i have no idea how to go from this to getting the programme onto a chip then onto my ECU. Does anyone have any idea how to do this? Alternatively, i could get my ECU done by JWT or somone like that. Is there anywhere in Britain that does chips for the 300? Dont want to have to send my ECU away to america... Every time I switch the ignition on, the time on my clock is different! I mean changed! but not to the correct time, if you see, what I am trying badly to explain!!!!!! I have read the thread about changing the resistors for clocks that are dim, my clock is not dim, it lights up ok. And I do not want to replace it with dials! Has anyone else had this problem or have I got gremlins in there? Any suggestion welcome. Arthur

Today i decided i would have a go at the auto diagnostic to see if it showed any probs, but alas i didn't get as far as that because whilst warming the engine up i noticed that it was sticking on high idle which i didnt think was too bad as it is bloody freezing, anyway after 5-10 mins i got in the car to rev it a little and thats where me problems began, as soon as i dabbed the accelerator revs dropped to almost nothing then climbed to about 2500 and then took a good few seconds to drop to 1200! Just had my '90 Jap TT serviced and noticed that the turbo boost gauge now doesn't move at all - even when the engine is switched off. It seems permanently stuck just to the right of zero. No change to performance however - still as quick as ever. Is it possible the needle is stuck or could this be something more serious?
