General Discussions - 300ZX Related

depending on you guys for some advice as usual i hve just received a spoiler and side skirts which i bought from the zcentre, i have left them into a body shop but he is not to sure on the best way to fit them he does not want to put holes in the car as he feels this could lead to corrosion problems in the future and he is not sure that bonding is enough he is enquiring somewhere about clips? any advice would be appreciated

I have far too many gadgets with cigerette lighter plugs on the end so want to hard wire a few. Now if i cut the plug off I have 1 red and 1 white wire, am i right in guessing this is pos and earth? Currently trying to wire in the following Snooper S6-R Radar Detector DVD Monitor G-Tech Pro Meter

Done so far.... Mongoose Exhaust Apexi Induction Chip Boost Controller Lightweight Pulley? Suspension? Brakes (Porterfields R4-S already) Injectors? De-cat? Ground Kit? Short shifter? Fluffy dice????

The HICAS light on the dash for some reason has com up and wont turn off. I turn on the car and drive it for a bit and it doesnt come on but after a few minutes of driving it turns on and doesnt ruen back off. Could some please explain to me what it could be. Will i need a new Hicas unit? Also another problem is my power steering at first it works perfictly but then stops workin and and then starts again whiles the car is being driven i reckon it kinda dangerous as when turning you can never tell if it is going to be working or not so would like to get it fixed asap. And (lol to many problems) i recently realised that when i acclerate the car has a good response…

What plugs would you reccomend for a Twin Turbo running 0.85 Bar Boost, Decat, AIV's Removed, Central 20 ECU (Aggresive), Induction etc? Sure the ones in my car are wrong, need to take the front 2 out and take pics so u guys can give me an idea if there mucking up my car (Suggested by Dave C) Im sure they are NGK 7 Somethings at the moment.

My Dash is starting to curl on the heater vents under front windscreen. I realise this is a common problem with the Z and there are tech guides to help or fix the problem. But Neperformance i think it was, used to sell carbon fibre vents which were slighlty larger and just covered the edge of the dash to hold it back down, as he isn't a trader anymore does anyone know where i could get these from???

I need some recommendations for a Z Specialist for servicing / repairs in the The New Forest area of Hampshire. I have relocated and I don't know anyone down here with a Z. Thanks.

was bloody wet here yesterday when I was driving and Im pretty certain I managed to get my MAF a bit soggy, had rough running/hesitation over 3k revs, jerky acceleration when it did decide to go over 3k that kind of stuff... seems fine today in the dry so Im assuming it was the water... question is what can be done to stop it other than not driving in the wet!! :D Its a real pain when you're stuck behind a 4x4 on the m-way kicking up gallons of spray and you know its all getting sucked stright into your filter! :( anybody come up with some fancy "weather shield" ideas?

help My economy is even worse than most.. If I drive super sensible I can eek about 200-250 miles from a tank but thats going REALLY slow... this is acceptable but I worry about If I boot it for a bit I can literally watch the petrol guage do down!! 100 miles to a full tank of optimax when driving quick :shock: is this normal? Im wondering if im running a bit rich or maybe have a leak somewhere... Going to order a smithy fuel line kit because I get the usual petrol stink on startup but it cant be leaking that much can it? AIV's have holes drilled in them to stop the gurgle, these affect fueling dont they? cheers dave

went to start her this mornin dash lights came on starter moter clunked then all power went off.left it 30 secs dash lights etc came back on then a bit of starter motor then power went again popped bonet wiggled a few things in a panic cos i was now runnin late fired up and no probs scince any ideas ?

Was thinking, If you put the normal main beam lights and wiring into the bigger inner reflective dish do you think you'd end up with a better light distribution than where they are as standard? And of course put the full beam lights into the little outer pods. Just a thought to remove DARKOVISON!!! without a HID upgrade.

just got a set of uk dials to go on me import and looking for a thread on changing them over also anything on putting the milage to match up with the milage of the car , as these dials have done alot more. Also i take it i just remove the speedo converter from the old set and bin it ?? any help appreciated cheers in advance

Hi all I have just fitted KYB super special shocks to my z and they have the adjustable damping on them from 1 to 4. It doesnt really seem to make that much difference on the road but probably will on a track so i was wondering if anyone knew what was the hard setting so I can just leave it on that. Also, the springs that are on the shocks have RS*R written on them. Are they made by KYB or a different company as the suspension is really low now? BensJammin

If ...and I say "IF" ....I was to buy an Ebay pully (and I know the Pros and Cons) with no timing marks on then how would you go about setting the mark other than lining up piston no:1 with the Top Dead Center although this is a bit bodge and wouldnt be very accurate. Any one? Ta :wack:

Please could somone explain how you can reconise a boost leak!!?? I've helped out on Mujinas car and his reading before the guage was 9psi and now with the controler off it reads 12? People are saying it could be a boost leak. I would have thought that if you had a leak to atmosphere your booost reading would lower :confused: Then i have heard that you gain boost if there is a leak before the turbo and loose it if its after. Could someone clarify this to me please. :headvswal

i have got some deviorce down pipe's and de-cats, which i intend to put on when i chance my engine, but was wondering how that would effect the O2 sensor reading's due to the reduced back pressure. thanks graeme

Hi all I keep wondering about the wide arch kit, but can't justify the cost, I am now considering fitting myself and then taking it in for finishing and painting at the body shop. Has anyone fitted a wide arch themselves,? Im trying to get an idea of how difficult it would be, and if its worth doing it yourself. Cheers Guys

guys i have recently replaced the front discs and pads with 3G 310mm discs and mintex pads , the pads squeel like a pig under town driving conditions the discs are great braking is very much improved , but im certain it could be better , can anyone recomend a different pad to stop the squeel ?? but give me as good if not better braking ??? :bow:
