General Discussions - 300ZX Related

right i'm going to order, bearing, rods, pistons, oil pump and a gasket set along with a few other bits which arn't part of the bottom end. This is only a bottom end rebuild for now, so not unless the cams, valves etc. have had it i will be leaving this as it is. But what else do i need to do? I've heard people say things like they have cleaned their water ways, replace core plugs, grounded the crank. What does all this mean and should i do it? also is there anything else which i have missed? As far as i'm aware grounding the crank takes a layer off the top so does this mean i would need special bearings?

hi all my thottle cable under the bonnet the left hand side one is not moving when you press the thottle and it seems to have lost a lot of power and i am wondering why. the cable is still join but it is not moving thanks

Saw a red 300 in the centre of coventry near the police station at around 1:15, saw it again parked up at 5ish but dont know where cos i got lost for a bit :( anyones on here?

Just wondering why the boost guage on the dashboard (the standard one) has gone dead. not reading anything. is there a pipe not connected properly? Also it stalls when it's cold if you rev it slightly and then take your foot off.

Has anyone tried the resister mod off ebay? i bought a zed with an aftermarket air filter, i think it's a blitz, which is making it run lean and flat. I'm hoping that this cheap mod will bring back the stoicheometric fuel/air ratio.

Hi all, Got a new electric mirror fitted on the drivers side after some unknown, not very nice person decided to kick it off!! :mad: :xxx: :mad: Any how got one put back on and the electric mirror angle position works but it will not fold in, pluged it on the other side and it works fine, how can one side work and the other not, is the a fuse for both sides or the two of them!?! I put a volt meter to the connection on the drivers door and it is clearly gettin no power, am i missing something simple or wa!! Any help as usuall greatly appreciated!! Andy. :)

Sometimes I get a really strong fuel smell from the car, sometimes on startup, sometimes after a run, sometimes after i have parked up and the car has been sat for a while. Have looked over the threads and done the obvious, tightening all the jubilee clips under the bonnet and its made no difference. Sometimes doesnt happen for days then it does. Any suggestions guys? I'm on the verge of just taking it in and having all the fuel pipes changed... :(

Hi guys, I've just bought a N/A jap import Zed and i'm having trouble getting more than half a tank of fuel in it. I pump fuel in untill the pump cuts out and keep trying untill it won't take any more but the fuel gauge goes just over half. I drove it to work, about 12 miles, whipped the tank sender out and had a peak, there was only half a tank full in there! Does anybody know of tank breather problems? I did notice that the pump nozzle only goes in a little way into the filler neck and was wondering if this has anything to do with it.

ok just went in zed and its now got a missfire starts a 3500 then clears then back at 5000 revs and goes like mad from around there exhausts are poping and banging.its ok at low revs . auto n/a .ive changed the plugs around 2k ago.how do i check for bad coilpack etc. :smash: i think its doing it as im looking at a new tt zed and she doesnt like it lol

Bonjourno to you all lovers of the mighty zed and the labour of love and heart break she sometimes brings, but when she is singing what a beautiful tune and beat she holds, but at the moment all is not well on planet zed we have fallen out again she is a little off colour at present due to her inability to hold her brake fluid , the brake lines are buggered for want of a better word , she is a two seater jap import, the question on my lips is cause she is a swb monster does she have the same brake lines/pipes as her slightly bigger sister ,please help and can you advise on best ones to get and were i could get my grubby hands on some .

Recently I found a 1990 300zx 2+2, I was told that the car ran while it was at auction but now it will not start and they do not know if it is electrical or fuel problems, the outside of the car has a small softball size dent on the passenger fender but i can pop it out and it will be good to go, its an automatic with the v6 non turbo. The asking price of the car is $1,995 and the car only has 88k miles on it, I was wondering how much work, or if its even possible to drop the twin turbo v6 into this car, how hard it would be to make it a 5 speed, and if anyone could help me out wether I should buy this car or not. Does anyone know a good place nearish to Tunbridge Wells that I can get my 99spec bumper re-sprayed? Its got some cracked and flaking paint that needs sorting. I don't mind travelling to somewhere thats good, but not too far as its not a major job. Does anyone know roughly how much it might be? Also what colour is it ????lol (other than fast red one) Dave

Hi all, im new here, and new to zeds to, so im not gonna pretnd i have the slightest clue about them. I baught a 1992 300zx TT (jap) a good 2 days ago now and so far iv got it booked into a local bodyshop to get the exterior mint and iv also had a guy from my local nissan dealership/garage (dont worry, hes a mate lol) go over the car top to bottom. He reckons the engine is in mint condition, all i need done on the whole car is new rear shock absorbers and somthin to do with the steering rack gaiter, so he's doing all that for me. Of course after thats all out of the way i want to get to the fun stuff, power, power and errrmmmmm.... power. The only mods on t…

Hi all, This is my first time on here. I have a VERY bad vibration from the front when braking at HIGH speeds, it doesn't do it at low speeds, it is very worrying, it feels like something is very warped (probably me)!!! it is impossible to continue braking when it does it. You have to come off the brakes completely and just kind of dab them quite hard on and off till it gets to a speed where it stops. It is that bad that it feels like the front of the car is wobbling from side to side and jumping up and down! I would think that it was warped discs except that it doesn't do it all the time, the brakes work very well apart from this. I will have to sort this out quickly…

In the past it was easy to be spotted and be nicked for having higher wattage headlamp bulbs, but today with HID and other high performance bulbs on the market being rated at 55W but chucking out the same light as a 100+ W bulb, there must be little or no chance of being spotted and nicked for have a 100W bulb, also why does the 55W rule still apply? In the past it was to avoid dazzling oncoming drivers, but why would a HID not dazzle, but a 100W bulb would? Also, as you should only use main beam when there isn’t oncoming traffic, why is main beam limited to 55W, as if you use it correctly you wont be dazzling anyone? Still having loads of probs with my rad. An absolute pill to remove. Couldn't get at the auto box cooler pipes v easily. Was quted £100.00 for a replacement and although right year etc it was totaly different. Is there much difference between jap and uk spec???
