Many many thanks to my 300zx compadre Vance who after reading my plight on 300zx.co.uk came down and fixed my leaking pipe for me while I was at work today. Not a big job he tells me but not one I had time to do myself he also tells me he can help with the diagnosis on the autobox, its great to have such a helpfull bunch of hommies with such a vast knowlege of this marque on the site. Thanks to all. Jase

ok i'm going to explain this as mechanically as possible... bearing in mind im a girl! AND IF ANYONE SAYS - girls shouldn't drive.... I'll smack u! :slap: Whenever i like stick my foot on the brakes, there is a funny noise like a creaking, rusty strain on an old rusty spring or like a fat ox walking on a floor board... its really creaky, and the harder i slam the brakes, the less noise, but when i do it slowly its loud and very creaky... the car has recently passed its MOT (in March) so i very much doubt its dodgy brakes, but who knows... is there some other part i should get checked out - could it be the pedal ?

Just an idea I'm toying with, but rather than go all-out on expense for a whole new front-end and potentially be forced into a respray thanks to faded 15-year old "black", I'm thinking of modding my stock front end. Has anyone else cut out the ribs on the intercooler ducts and meshed behind? Possibly have to mesh the main (rad) duct so it all looks right. I'm wondering if it would look any good. So... anyone else done this, and got any pics? Cheers, Mark

Ok, iv got my 300zx tt, but seeing as its in the body shop right now im just pacing about wondering what i should do with it when i get it back. I already have an aftermarket induction kit and an exhaust system on it and as far as i know the next steps to take are getting the boost turned up (electronic boost controller?) , 555cc injectors and then uprated intercoolers (ready for when i decide i want more power). Would that be the right direction to go in? And also am i going to need my ecu re-mapping after that lot? Oh yeah one last thing, roughly how much do you think it would cost me to get the parts supplied and fitted? Cheers for any help you can …

I spent some more time under my Zed this weekend and found out that I have had the cats removed :hyper: one less job for me to do. Anyway I am concerned about the legality. My car is a 1993 series II so Firstly, is it legal for me to have no cats? Secondly, I believe de-cat pipes are the replacement part of the exhaust where the catalytic converters used to be. - Is this correct? Thirdly, what are cat backs? where do they go and do they improve performance? Thanks, Mike...

Hi guys, it must be my turn for the bad luck bug. Not only is my Z still not finding second gear its now started steaming (you can smell the antifreeze) from O/S bank towards the back of the block, it sounds like a pipe or something and its leaking onto the exhaust or turbo I think. PLEASE PLEASE advise, and if anyone has any other ideas on the box I would love to hear em as the TPS bit is all ok. Many Thanx Jase

Hi all Noticed a strang noise coming from one of my turbos. It happens when the boost is rising and when I'm on boost. Imagine the sound when you are swirling a marble in an empty tin can. I also had a puff of white smoke directly after start up, on the same side. However no more smoke since. I also have an oil leak somewhere above the turbo, unsure exactly where its leaking from, could this have anything to do with it?? Thanks Andrew ;)

Okay list i am asking cause i have seen so much about brakes and am confused as hell and have already spent too much on brakes that were equally as bad. The stock 300 brakes are as we all know pants (but good for the era no doubt) mine has the earlier series 1 alloy calipers? The questions:- 1. Did they change the front calipers on later models for steel? 2. Which skyline has brembo calipers that fit the same fitting and fit under stock wheels? 3. Which skyline discs / calipers will fit under 17's? 4. What is the best set-up under 17's? Chris C

Hi List, Whilst in the US I bagged a set of Nismo S tune suspension  for the Z. Nice 4 way adjustable damping front and rear. Trouble is i have no way of knowing whether they are stock ride height springs or lower unless.......... someone on the list knows the free standing length of the damper and springs with stock springs or lowered. :D I want to go lower so is anyone using these dampers with eibachs or something else? thanks in advance Chris

Morning all, Has anyone encountered these decat pipes before: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/90-96-NISSAN-300ZX-TURBO-STAINLESS-STEEL-DE-CAT-EXHAUST_W0QQitemZ8073662668QQcategoryZ38786QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem If so, are they any good? The pipes in the photos don't seem to have anyhere to fit the Oxygen sensors. Also the gaskets for the turbos would require modification to get around the gas seperator. (But I'd stick with the standard gaskets anyay, since I've got a spare pair in the garage). Nice day innit!!!

  17. and where do I start looking  I have noticed recently that when flooring it and the boost getting more and more that the car seems to twist. It's difficult to describe but as the boost is increasing and I look in my rear view mirror the rear end seems to shift to the left as if the rear axle or something is twisting. Thats in the dry, if I get wheel spin in the wet the car also seems to drift to the left even in a straight line, I don't know if the two are related at all. Has anyone else experienced anything like this and where should I start ? CheerZ Paul

Hi guys, Back from the US with some tasty 'hand luggage'. Took a punt on a set of Nismo LMGT2's by RAYs from a breaker. They are totally contemporary to the 300zx design but I am not sure whether they will fit due to the offsets. Rear 17 x 9 +38 offset Front 17 x 8 + 35 offset So listers will the fit? What tyre sizes are recommended for these? If they don't fit I got them cheap enough to re-furb and sell on So.......anyone know of anyone who can re-furb a set of split rims in the north west? Also a source for the nismo stickers on them as they are slightly damaged thanks chris

Hi Peeps, I have just bought a 300zx yesterday and I have 2 things I was looking for help on. The first is that when I go over bumps in the road, pot holes etc the back end seems to slide a bit. Is it something to do with the HICAS steering or does my car need some attention? Its a bit disconcerting. The second is I have a button next to my shift stick that says A/T power and hold. Any ideas what this is? Any advice greatfully accepted! Cheers Ian

Got my zed, subscription cheque in post, need to start planning. My aim is to have, maybe not THE fastest, but one of the fastest around. Engine is ready in the garage, small block Chevy, 6.3litre stroker, Vortech supercharger, water/methanol injection. Was in my Granada till I blew the pistons. Was gradually increasing the boost when the pistons went. Got to 7psi which is probably about 450fwhp. Will be able to get an intercooler in this time. No room in Granny. This fits into a Tremec TKO500 5 speed box. Question is, what else will need upgrading? Someone on here said the tt diff would take 1000bhp? What about the prop?Anyone broke one of these? The she…

Im looking at swapping my diff and autobox oils and have decided to go for royal purple off the back of the recent thread that made it sound good. Autobox isnt a priority but would be nice to get done whilst the cars on a lift. After searching the castrol website ive found the following and wanted to check its correct before going head long into it : Diff oil 2.1 litres as 75w90 ? (this sound correct?) Autobox 8.7litres as dexron 3? Also had a search on "how-tos" and found one http://www.ttzd.com/ here, but the pictures are not great. Just wondered if anyone had any clearer pictures or tips before i get into doing this job. (appart from tak…
