Morning all I connected Conzult up to my car last night (thanks Richard!) and immediatly saw that my coolant temp was running at 98 C and when the car was stationary it went up to 102 C. EEEK! There are no symptoms eg. steam, overflowing etc. The level is correct and was flushed/refilled just before the summer. 1. Could it be the temp sensor that is shot and sending the wrong signals to the ECU? 2. Anythingto do the thermostat perhaps? PS. Got a OEM rad. Thanks Andrew

No! This isn't yet another question asking which oil I should use!! I would just like to ask if anyone has used Valvoline SynPower 5W40 fully synthetic oil, and if so, what they thought of it? I used Mobil 1 15w50 for my first change on this car (since I've owned it), but think it is a bit too thick. Also, I have a feeling that whatever oil was in before I changed it was a different (not as thick) viscosity.

Hi all, Cleaning a few connectors etc tonight and the Water Temp sensor (i think thats what it is..left of the ECU Connector with yellow plug?) anyway while the engine was running, i 'twiddled' it, and it sounded like a fan kicked in, when i stopped the fan stopped..the main fan (under the shroud) was already spinning, but it sounded like another one kicked in..so im thinking maybe the connector seen better days and needs replacing..im not sure , ive never heard this other fan kick in before.. any ideas? thanks Ed

I've had the fault codes on the ECU for a while now and finally got around to a full diagnostic a couple of weeks ago and I deffinately have a fault with the fuel temp and det sensors. My question is can I get these parts including wiring from anywhere other than Nissan and how much am I looking at? I've had a quote for a maximum of £250 labour costs too, what do you reckon?

1995 N/A Auto 2+2. (bog standard throughout) I've noticed that the dashboard display is very poorly lit at night despite the variable setting on max. I have difficulty seeing the numbers. (I am getting a bit old and I may need to change my glasses). Prior to this Z, I had an X reg Silvia Turbo with a similar problem. A mate of mine who serviced it for me simply replaced the bulbs with staggering effect. Is it a simple job to do the same on a Z, or is it a question of "dashboard out"? Any ideas?

Getting a sorta whining/high pitched scraping from my front drivers side brake caliper. I thought at first it was a bearing on my power steering pump (That sortta noise), but its only there when I move car, and gets faster. I tried bending back the guard slightly in case that was rubbing/catching. Shims are all in and pins are pushed in etc any ideas? Shall I just get it up in the air and strip it down to try and find out Or is there something I can do with wheel firmly on ground? Ive tried hitting it with a rubber mallet too :)

I'm perplexed... is this a love it or leave it proposition... I have been looking for a good '95 or '96 SWB or Slicktop without a whole bunch of luck. closest I found was a 1999 slicktop for £10K.. but don't like the whole 'Model report' gamble/expense A friend has a very standard 1989 SWB NA with 50,000 on the clock. It's been sitting in his drive for about 2.5 years with the occasional start. The interior is... well... 17 years old. The body... well needs a re-spray... Shocks and everything else for that matter... look old. and tired. I can buy it for £700.00 and then. Get a £1700 full re-spray for about £900 through a mate who owes me one. …

Right, having bumped into Zedworld at JAE, they had a mapped ECU for sale and he says I can safely run at 1bar boost, I use a blitz SBC to control boost. So I says that I run at 1.3bar boost, at this he said this would be going backwards for me to fit this one, and that I must be running forged pistons and bigger injectors, and that my ECU must be chipped to run 1.3bar boost, otherwize I couldn't run that much boost. I run 1.3 bar nicely without any det or defeating and pulls bloody strong, its way faster than others I have driven, and I've driven lots. I have only had the zed fresh in from japan for 6 months and this work was obviously done there, so he s…

READING THE FORUM ITS QUICK TO SEE ALL THE COMMENTS AND ADVICE ABOUT BUYING A ZED, UNFORTUNATELY THIS FORUM HAS ONLY JUST BEEN DISCOVERED BY MYSELF, 6 MONTHS AFTER FINALLY PURCHASING MY 300, AND I NEED TO GET IT INTO A GARAGE. THERES A LOUD TAPPING NOISE FROM ONE OF MY CYLINDERS THAT CAN BE HEARD AS IT AMPLIFIED THROUGH THE EXHAUST. LOOKING AT THE SITE IT SEEMS THAT ZTECH IN WILTSHIRE IS STRONGLY RECOMMENDED, BUT I LIVE IN GLORIOUS NORFOLK AND DON'T REALLY WANT TO END UP PUSHING THE CAR ALONG THE M25. ANY RECOMMENDATIONS? EXCLUDING BURNING IT.

Does anyone know if there’s a really good mechanic in the north east that knows the 300zx inside out? Someone who can do major engine work and not damage the car. I’ve just re-spayed the car with rainbow metal flake and don’t want it damaged. I might want to upgrade some oily bits at some point. I did the major 60k service (all new belts, water pump, tensioner, thermostat and under drive pulley) myself because I didn’t trust anyone.
