Bit of an odd one inside my Z. When I turn ignition on, if I wait a second or two there's a buzzing noise from inside the cover plate of the map reader lights in the roof. I removed the cover tonight and the noise comes from a foam covered 'whatsit'. Apologies I don't know what that is but it's connected up for some reason. Anyone know what's going on here?

Don't know if anyone has posted this before, but I was browsing through some old threads and have just realised that the above named gentlemen's car reg's are extremely similar (with the exception of one digit) . I'm not too familiar with UK reg's but if it's like Ireland they're coded to areas, so...What's the chances that 2 Z's would be registered in the same area 100 numbers apart:thumbup:

I've recently had an issue arise with my twin turbo. I've noticed she runs a little lumpy on idle with the occasional mild misfire. I decided to get myself a free version of consult and plugged it in. The readings I got back that I've been advised are out of place are the aac/i-acv readings are at 44% and the idle speed is dancing around the 900 rpm area. At points the engine does run lower but it seems to wander around a little when the mood takes it. The error code on the diagnostic is also showing code 34 knock sensor. This is obviously going to play around with something if the knock sensor is dead. I am going to cancel the knock sensor error by inserting a …

My new boss is into his classic motors like me and recently approached me about storage in the area. I believe he has in the region of 5 classic cars that he is shipping up north so he is in the market for a warehouse / workshop so after having a wee look about my area I found this : He's got a viewing shortly and hopefully if he goes for it I'll have a new unit to start work on the new build. He also has a 4 poster that can be installed so way hey ! :)

Looking at ordering up new discs and pads all round. Already settled on MTEC discs and Mintex pads (car is barely used and never pushed to limits). Anyone got good places to get Mintex pads at good prices before I just get them bundled in with MTEC?

I have my MOT next month and need a few things doing so it can sail through. Couple of things I would like to know: 1) I have a JDM LWB non-turbo with a HID kit I installed last year, one of my front fog light bulbs has gone. What bulbs do I need? Is there a better style of bulb (the current bulbs were a bit too orange and didnt match the HIDs) 2) To pass the MOT last year I had to change my reverse light into a fog light, I stole my wife red nail polish and painted one of the reverse bulbs which worked, but now I want something much brighter (not to mention the nail polish has faded!) What is the type of bulb I need? I know the JDMs use a H3 or something, …

I have a friend who has done windscreen replacements before, but is there anything special about the Z we should know about? In particular, trim that cannot be saved. Got a quote from national windscreens a while back for something like £290 + VAT for the window and fitting, excluding any trim, which is pretty high, hence my worry. Also if anyone knows of suppliers of the glass in/near Edinburgh please mention (blue tint) Cheers

So, my 99 spec bumper is in the paint shop and so I now want to get a new bumper plate for it. So, do I go UK and horizontal rectangular or import square style? Which suits the 99 spec best in people's opinion? The car is an import so its square import style on the rear. Also, the reg of the car is an Irish style one. Anyone got any photos of their 99 spec bumpers with plates on they can show to help?

Hi guys, Im looking to buy another zed, theres a couple im interested in, one of them the owner says the turbo seals have gone, and the car is in safety boost mode? I dont understand, I didnt think the ecus were that intelligent. Would there be another underlying issue causing safety mode? The car in question looks to be in very good order otherwise so i doubt neglect is an issue. Thanks Mark

Hi, I was crusing along on the Motorway at 70MPH and suddenly the Z began to loose power, with some juddering/jerking, the speed slowed down to about 50MPH and returned to normal, it happened 2/3 times, what can this be? Any idea? I thought I was about to brake down, by the loyal 300ZX managed to get me home. The driving surface was flat throughout. What needs to be checked? The car is otherwise in good condition. 1998 60K twin turbo manual, import. Thanks

Just wondering, in advance of trying to put the interior back in the car whether or not there's a list of all the bolts and screws and where they go on the zed. Anyone know if this kind of thing exists? I know there's the service manual but I'm not sure if it says what's the bolt or screws are (sizes etc) and where they all go.

Basically as titled. I've got a small PS leak atm, I've pin pointed it back to the pump area. It only leaks properly when the engines on. This leads me to think it's the high pressure line. To make all that stuff visible though the inlet piping has to come off. So as long as disconnect both throttle pipes and the maf the engine should be "ok" to run, right? Obviously I'm not going to drive it just get the engine running to get pressure and circulation on the system and observe what it's up to. Just don't want to cause damage or waste time on something that won't work. It's probably something silly I've missed. It's been dropping PSF since I pulled the engine. All…

I'm amateur but not a noob, and I'm pretty sure something ain't right. Took my exhaust off to do some other work (1990 Z32 TT), and I couldn't help but notice there are no cats on the underside of the car. But fair enough, I've fixed cars before with cars in the engine bay. But then I saw replacement exhausts etc and they all had the cats on the underside of the 300zx, so I followed my pipework and I know where the lambda sensors are (right behind the engine bay) but as far as I can tell, I can't see cats? My car had its exhaust system replaced in 1998 immediately after the last owner purchased it, and I have receipts every year for parts/MOTs since but none men…

The sills on my zed are actually pretty good. There were one or two small holes which I've treated and patched up and have had a good dig at the rest of them with a screw driver to make sure it's all solid. I was going to drill a couple of holes and attempt to treat the insides so that they don't give me trouble in the future. I've heard the inner sills are multi layer. Can anyone advise how best to go about doing the job?

Normally the Zed is super good at being a weekend only car. But in the past two weeks, it is p"ssing me off. Basically, the battery is draining itself dead in two days. Its just started all of a sudden over Christmas, and now I am having to jump start every two days, just to keep its alarmed. Something has changed, and it may be due to the excessive rain possibly.Once charged it runs ok. My thoughts are a failing alternator or a dead battery (although its less than 2 years old and its a Bosch). Anyone got any thoughts on how to diagnose what may be causing this loss of charge in the battery?
