ZX-MIKEY Posted January 13, 2016 Posted January 13, 2016 Bit of an odd one inside my Z. When I turn ignition on, if I wait a second or two there's a buzzing noise from inside the cover plate of the map reader lights in the roof. I removed the cover tonight and the noise comes from a foam covered 'whatsit'. Apologies I don't know what that is but it's connected up for some reason. Anyone know what's going on here? Quote
RichardS Posted January 13, 2016 Posted January 13, 2016 Hi mate, Common problem there..... There is a little fan (that "foam covered thing" you refer to) inside that cover plate - it's part of the a/c system - and after time, the bearing fails. Hence that little electric fan, which would otherwise spin away in relative silence, starts to sound noisy! You can try replacing it with another; or IIRC, there is a "fix" albeit I cannot remember how! Richard:clover: Quote I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:
ZX-MIKEY Posted January 13, 2016 Author Posted January 13, 2016 And there it is! Haha I thought it sounded like a fan. Any tips then would be great ;) Quote

AndrewG Posted January 13, 2016 Posted January 13, 2016 Along with applying a light grade oil, you can also adjust the set screw - correct tension is necessary for the fan to work without squealing. http://www.twinturbo.net/nissan/300zx/FAQ/FAQpages/tempfan.html Quote She's so fine, there's no tellin' where the money went - Simply irresistible.
