My new toy
Roof off for summer (if we get one this year) :D Picking it up this weekend hopefully. Got an absolute bargain at my local dealer, brand new. 2.8 diesel with 3 piece removable targa type panels and hardtop. Roof and doors come off and windscreen folds down. What the fook you do with them then I don't know  Exactly the same as the one in the pics, the RRP is £22K Part ex'd my Clio Sport 172 (which I have had trouble selling for £2K) and £10K cash :D That's about half price

How much does it cost to refurb recircs?
Not sure they are repairable, i've never heard of anyone doing it. You could probably get a used set for next to nothing anyway.

MOT failed - exhaust too loud
Yeah I thought it was £44 and I was getting conned so I checked online: http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/Motoring/OwningAVehicle/Mot/DG_4022514 Must have gone up very recently :( I've added the rest of the failure items above. Passed first time in the last 2 or 3 years and none of these things are new recently apart from possibly the brake hoses, rusty steering joint and sill but I have my doubts about those actually being a problem.

MOT failed - exhaust too loud
Does a bit! I think I'll try to find somewhere new and a bit more modification friendly LOL Just can't afford to keep trying different places at £50 a time until they pass it :headvswal

MOT failed - exhaust too loud
Am thinking of doing that but this place have passed it the last 4 years when all the dubious bits have been on there before. Unless it's a new guy who did the actual test I'm not sure anywhere else is much more likely to pass it. It is LOUD so I have only myself to blame on this really. Will cost another 50 quid if I don't use the free re-test. It failed on a list a mile long but only a couple of bits are genuine mechanical problems that need sorting. 1. Rust and play in steering UJ - it feels rock solid to me when driving but easy swap so I'll do it. 2. Front suspension top mount nut is coming loose - tighten it up LOL 3. Hole rusted through nearside sill near seatbelt mounting point - I haven't seen any holes and I spent a week under the car recently but it's a quick weld job I've been told. 4. Nearside headlight has 1 mounting broken and won't adjust to left - been like this for 9 years since I bought it and never had a problem with light pattern before. 5. A pillar mount gauge pod encroaching more than 10mm into Zone A - find it hard to believe but will take it out as gauges aren't wired in yet. 6. Blitz SBC Boost controller below sunvisor encroaching more than 10mm into Zone A - it's not visible unless you look up at the sunvisor LOL Will move as it's just on suckers. 7. Two brake pipes corroded - yes they're rusty but seemed very solid when I was working on them recently. 8. Exhaust too noisy - well it is I suppose LOL 9. Number plate not vertical - it's on a flexible aluminium bracket that needs pushing an inch to vertical LOL 10. Alarm wiring behind dash slipped down to pedal area - needs a cable tie to keep it out the way. 11. One out of the 4 washer jets is missing the screen - how tight is that? 12. Foglight is dim and should be same brightness as a brake light - Since when? It's a fog bulb in a fog light unit and i tested it the night before and it's FAR brighter than the brake lights. Advisory Items: 13, One of the front R34 calipers creaks when pressed? 14, Offside front wheel inner rim has a slightly distorted bead rim - the wheels are spotless so no idea how? 15, Both front flexi brake hoses insufficiently clipped - braided hoses fitted, missing one of the brackets as there's no mounting point on them. 16, Hoses fouling nearside stearing gaiter - no idea what they are but will have a look. I haven't seen anything hanging down when I've been under there. In total there's 18 points! Is that a record? LOL Might try elsewhere as I don't think I can get it all done within 10 days anyway so will have to pay again. Might as well do the silly easy jobs and stuff something up the exhaust to quieten it a bit and then take it elsewhere. Think he was trying for a shit load of work if you ask me.

MOT failed - exhaust too loud
Problem is my exhaust is 2.5 or 3 inch straight through. Removable 6 inch tail pipes so might try taking them off and stuffing a reducer of some sort up there LOL Removing the tail pipes might reduce it a bit I suppose.

MOT failed - exhaust too loud
He said it's all been really tightened up now. It was also failed for having my boost controller mounted on the windscreen below the sunvisor  Not allowed anything there now either apparently. You'd have to be looking for low flying aircraft for that to be within your vision! Easy to move though. Next they'll be stopping everyone and fining them for having a screen mounted satnav

Quite agree, but just get ready for more and more bills! LOL

MOT failed - exhaust too loud
Looks like they are getting a bit more fussy on exhausts. Failed for being "obviously far in excess of what would be considered normal for a car fitted with a similar standard silencer" LOL The car is very loud but it's been through 4 MOT's like this before. It's a custom made stainless system with empty back boxes with no baffles :slap: Been told I just need to quieten it down temporarily and he'll pass it. Any ideas what I can do?

spanked by a new 911 turbo
Yes I know you were running 14psi that's what you said in your first post. I was thinking it was another one of those "I'm going to run 30psi on my stock turbo's" posts :D LOL Don't think that you're car will be any more reliable at 19psi than 22! The car was designed to be running at standard boost with a standard engine. Even if your engine is built well enough (and there's no gaurantee it is) from my experience EVERYTHING ELSE will break! LOL Suspension, brakes, clutch, gearbox, prop, diff, axles etc etc etc are all under far more pressure than ever designed for. Just remember Stu's carbon prop broke in no time! That's partly why I haven't rushed to get it re-mapped and the boost turned up. That's where the Porsche has the advantage in that it can be used all day long like that. I saw a Nur Spec R34 at Ten Of The Best doing standing starts over and over, dropping the clutch flat out all day long and smoking 4 wheels off the line and thinking if I did that 3 times in my Z the gearbox would be scattered all over the runway! Having said that, the reason I stick with the Z is there's nothing else with this kind of performance for the money even if it costs me a few hundred every couple of months and it does get looked at like no porsche ever will. Where I live in Harrogate I can drive through town and see 10 Porsches, 5 Astons and a Ferrari or Lambo every weekend. Nobody even notices them. I remember parking my Z in Leeds on a saturday night once on the main street full of bars. When I came back to the car to head home there was a load of people standing round my car and I could hardly get near it. Got loads of complements on how nice it was and questions on how it drove etc. I looked behind my car and there was only a bright orange Lambo Mucielago parked there. Nobody was even looking at it! :D LOL

help!! poly tension bushes
Use a bigger vice! I got my local garage to fit them and they have a special press for doing this kind of stuff.

spanked by a new 911 turbo
That's spookily close to my spec! LOL Loads of the same bits as on mine in rides :) I'm still running 14psi too as every time I think about mapping it properly something breaks! Chrs.

David Carradine found dead
"The US star was in Thailand filming his latest film Stretch, according to his personal manager Chuck Binder" Unfortunate name for the movie, sounds like he stretched it a bit too far :x: LOL Very sad, I remember watching Kung Fu with my dad when I was a kid :(

spanked by a new 911 turbo
What turbo's and mods have you got to be running 1.5bar / 22psi??? Quick those 911 Turbo's! Had a fairly even race with the Turbo model from around 3 or 4 years ago :) Kicked the arse of a Cayenne Turbo S shortly after, rolling from about 40mph to 100 ish as I overtook it :D

Brake balence hell! HELP!
I'd change the disks round and fit new pads if possible. If you can't get new ones in time sand the pads down a bit to deglaze them. Put the pads in different positions and give it a good drive to bed them in. If the disks are rusty/pitted/glazed then I'd give them a bit of a sand down too. Can't see it being the pipework and if you've replaced the offending caliper there's not much left. I wouldn't think the master cylinder could fail in such a way as to give less pressure down one line but I'm not entirely sure how they are constructed?? My brakes were terrible when I tried them the other week - would hardly stop the car at all they were so rusted up. I thought they'd bed in again but they were too far gone. Last time I drove it on track the brakes boiled and the disks and pads were completely glazed over. It then stood rusting for 18 months so they were a right mess. Cleaned up the calipers, sanded the disks and pads down a bit and bled the system and they're fantastic again :)
