Stoopid car! lol

 

Car failed mot on break balence, 38% difference on the front.

 

I checked the pads and they all looked the same, so put them back and bled the system out, it felt better. Then tested it again and it was still off balence. Checked the calipers and drivers side (ineffective side) was seized.

 

Thought bingo and changed the caliper for a brand new one.

 

Drove the car last night and its still pulling to the left under breaking Grr! If you take it out of gear and brake hard while turning left it really does pull quite a bit!

 

What else can it be? I checked the brake hoses last night with the engine running and someone pumping the pedal, they both look fine and cant see any bulging etc. I clamped each one with mole grips and my friend said the pedal got harder to press by the same amount when I clamped each side.

 

Disks loook fine, pads look like they made have got hot at some point but both sides are equal.

 

Anyone had this issue or got any pointers?!!

Looking at a disk you cannot really tell its condition ie warped. Change the disk on the pulling side to the other side to see if it pulls on the new side. If so disk problem. To be honest i think a good caliper rebuild and new oils are in order. Not hard to do.

Hmm could swap the disks over, there are no vibrations when braking. Caliper is brand new so its not that!

You could try de-glazing the pads and disc's as you say they have got hot.

Thinking about changing the disks over if I can, putting a cheap set of pads on later and changing the brake flexi hose on the offending side, bleeding new fluid through. only issue is I have to get this done after work today as last day for mot retest is tomorrow!

I'd change the disks round and fit new pads if possible.

If you can't get new ones in time sand the pads down a bit to deglaze them.

Put the pads in different positions and give it a good drive to bed them in.

If the disks are rusty/pitted/glazed then I'd give them a bit of a sand down too.

 

Can't see it being the pipework and if you've replaced the offending caliper there's not much left.

 

I wouldn't think the master cylinder could fail in such a way as to give less pressure down one line but I'm not entirely sure how they are constructed??

 

My brakes were terrible when I tried them the other week - would hardly stop the car at all they were so rusted up.

I thought they'd bed in again but they were too far gone.

Last time I drove it on track the brakes boiled and the disks and pads were completely glazed over.

It then stood rusting for 18 months so they were a right mess.

Cleaned up the calipers, sanded the disks and pads down a bit and bled the system and they're fantastic again :)

I just cant see how only one side can be effected as the pads all look the same, im going to swop them over later and hopefully change the hose
