# 4 - what am I doing? Little build thread!
Last bit of interior to do as the rest is looking really clean. My rear upper quarter panels have looked better and I've been wanting to recover them for a few years now. A combination of not having a spare set to cover and the correct colour vinyl have meant that it's been on hold. I have since found a charcoal vinyl from a supplier in Gloucestershire that actually matches the rest of the interior plastics better than the faided grey of the original. Jimmer had a spare set of tatty ones for me to strip. Off with the old vinyl - it pretty much peeled off like a banana skin putting up no resistance whatsoever. Also popped out all the fasteners. Straightened all the fasteners out ready for refinement with epoxy resin. I did buzz off a lot of the remnants of the degraded foam scrim with a light wire brush drill bit. I need to continue with it once the drill is recharged! Nissan held the fasteners with a body tape which fails over time which is why you can often see bulges on the lower edge as they've pushed back through. I could use a tape again, but I wanted something a little more sturdy, so decided the best way to was epoxy them in. The wire brush lightly keys the surface too so this should offer a good 'purchase' for the epoxy The metal fasteners in particular have a habit of pushing back through. Circular plastic ones also had the same treatment, a light amount on the tops of the edge of the holes before fitting the clip and then fill and smooth epoxy in at the top. I may end up with a body tape also for added protection, but this should be more than enough. I need get some high temp contact adhesive before fixing the replacement vinyl on and a heat gun. More updates to follow.

What did you do to your zed today?
Thanks mate. Ride is fine, the FUCAs I have are the Z1 Street control arms with the bushings rather than the bearings. Unfortunately I had a very early set and they had the old bushings in which Energy Suspension cocked up on the design. Needless to say they weren't up to the job. Z1 sent me a bush upgrade kit FoC and today it was fitted. I still intend on going over the stock arms with the Whiteline cam adjuster as I want a maintenance-free solution, but Jim did a great job today on getting everything swapped out. Feels so much better.

At Jimmer's again today for a FUCA rebuild with updated and uprated bushes. Feels fantastic now! I'm still going to replace them eventually with whiteline adaptors and stock links, but this will do for the road trip!

Fitting wind deflectors
Those things are shite! All the rage with the VW crew. They look dreadful. Beaded seat covers will be back before we know it!

Fitting wind deflectors
I think they make a difference. I have driven my Z with and without and there is a definite reduction in buffeting at around 60/70.

People on here generally travel decent distances for the right garages who specialise in these cars, there are essentially only 2, PowerZed and LA Autos. Me for example, I've been using Jimmer @ PowerZed for 12 years now and couldn't rate him highly enough. Very reasonably priced especially considering his skill level and qualifications; his knowledge and attention to detail is right at the top.- Hi. I'm new here

Time you old farts started a Ford appreciation thread all of your own! ;)- Day running lights
Don't do it Art. DLR's look dreadfully cheesy on old cars. Lost count of the amount of aging Toyota and Ford Galaxys that I've seen with these fitted to and they look so cheap.- MOT coming up.
Did Steve work for VW prior?- What did you do to your zed today?
- Front upper control arms (OEM)
Discovered today that the bushings on my Z1 upper control arms have already started to fail just like the Powertrix ones before that so want to go back to stock arms and fit Whiteline cam adjustment bushings. As such, I'm after a set of stock upper control arms as pictured. Bush condition not important just as long as the arms are not heavily pitted. Need these pretty urgently if anyone has a set.- What did you do to your zed today?
Took my Z to Jim's for some well earned maintenence. Finally got my starter motor replaced with a brand new Nissan one and it sounds great as well as starts reliably! Also had a coolant flush incl. block flush, oil change, a leaky injector replaced and some other odds and sods. Runs beautifully and now ready for a nice long road trip down to Monaco next month! Jim's work, as always is first rate!- Considering going wide arch
The only one readily available here are the Strosek style kits. There are some other kits around which are utter horrors like the Iber Designs one. But really, the only ones you're going to find in the UK are the Strosek replica ones. After all that work that Daz put in, are you really going to tear all that nice paint back to glue a bodykit to?- Anything Goes 5pm till 9pm August 6th 2017
Mooor pics! :)- Anything Goes 5pm till 9pm August 6th 2017
200 going and you posted a photo of a brown Mini and an old Polo? You must have more pics. Any of that other pearl white Z? :)- Pearl White Paint
Make 2 -3 spray-out cards, firstly with 2 light passes of pearl, then 3 light passes in pearl and finally 4. Imagine it will probably 2 or 3. You also need to finish off with clear on top of the pearl mid coat (I'm sure you know this already).- Pearl White Paint
.....and the 'G' merely denotes trim level. ;) Interested to see the colour match. Be very careful with the mid coat, I'm not sure how many coats Nissan used, but the more you layer that up, the darker the final finish you'll get, too little and it'll be too light, this is irrespective of how well the computer may have match what you have in the can. You can make up some of your own spray-out cards, but check them against your own paint in ALL angles both under sun light and when cloudy. - Hi. I'm new here
