Without trying to give you the wrong impression but have you looked at the alternatives mate? you might get an NA fro 2.5k and if you are lucky it wont need money spent on it but the running costs are still very heavy. You're looking at a grand a year in tyres alone (2 sets rears 1 set fronts). Most zeds that go for under 3-4k need some serious cash to make them drive like they should (obviously you could drive it like a shed but theres no point then). How about a 200sx? you can get a very good modded 200sx for the price you have and they are much easier to run. Not trying to put you off, just give you a realistic view on owning them. They are very cheap (comparably) to similar power cars (skyline,supra,etc) but are no cheaper to run. Running is the bulk of the cost. Thats probably the car going into safety boost due to det? Its a fair point though, if its a UK zed then it should work ok on normal unleaded. With the heat under the bonnet though I'd never consider using it.

Know what you mean mate, its a bit like the zed market though. People are having trouble selling them so there's some bargains out there. A good one is still double the price of a good zed though :( . They are very uncompromising, pure sports car. Mines unbearably loud, I think I'm going to fit the exhaust baffle I've got and leave it on all the time to see if it makes it more comfortable. My head was spinning when I got back last week.

Lol, 3 thousand ish mate! The state of tune is so high it'll probably need a refresh in a year or so but I was looking for something extreme. I did a probably 7 or 800 odd miles in two days last week in it on John Lyons High Performance Course, all with the engine 'singing' as he puts it at 5k rpm. It didn't get remotely hot which is a really good sign on these engines. The race rad and charge cooler are a great setup. Lots of people stack a big front mount intercooler in front of the rad ( as they do on the Zed) which is a bit stupid IMO.

Most older performance cars always need something doing to them. Its whether the seller tells you or not that matters! I always ask what they would do to it next , not that they'd tell me if they were hiding anything but it makes me feel better! and if I get a good answer it gives me some idea of how truthfull and knowledgable they are.

Hello mate, I don't mean this to sound like an advertisement for my car but have you considered any of the cars on here? How much are you looking at spending? Generally if you are looking at import centers or trade sellers you will be paying a grand more than the car is worth privately and theres a lot of dodgy import centers up around birmingham (search on here for particulars). There are some very cheap zeds for sale here which probably need work but there are also many very good quality ones. Where abouts do you live? maybe if you saw what was out there then you'd have a better idea. Good choice on walking away though. Lots of people can't resist the first zed they see. The state of the modded car market at the moment means that if you choose right you can get a real bargain. My Rx7 that I just got has receipts for over 25k and a lot more moneys worth of work done on it. My zed has 15k of receipts . It really is a buyers market, you just need to know what you are looking for, and what you should try to get already replaced. Dave

Just add up all the main bits I reckon if you have them: Leather seats Aftermarket alloys (new tyres?) Manual gearbox or re-conned autobox Engine (rebuilt?) Turbos (if re-conned or new) aftermarket boost controller/ecu/gauges etc Aftermarket exhaust Then just add a few hundred for all the extra buts and bobs. More hassle than its worth unless you've got lots of space to brake it.

I completely agree with Rich66! Absolute madness to swap to a lower octane in this weather. You don't always know if you are killing your engine until its too late. I wouldn't risk it unless you've got a very clear reading of the temps etc eg EGT gauge, coolant/oil temp etc. You wont have issues running day to day, you'll get issues either when you give it welly or when you are stuck in traffic. The engine will get hot and then the combistion will get out of control at a lower temp than it would with a higher octane petrol.

Awesome, I'm going to set it off. About time we had some waves around here bigger than 2foot! Seriously though I did hear about that. Apparently it is now too unstable to remove the bombs due to corrosion and so on, and so the only way would be to blow it. A 1 mtr wave isn't exactly that big is it, a hard storm could whip that much up easily enough.
