  1. A GREAT READ FOR ALL OF US FRUSTRATED TAXPAYERS!!!!! :headvswal Have you ever thrown your arms up in despair while trying to complete an official form and asked yourself "Just what is the point of this?" You're not alone. Red tape in Britain has reached epidemic proportions. In just 12 months the Government produced a shocking 3,621 pieces of legislation, running to a total of 98,600 pages. That's 70 times as long as War and Peace! - That there are 279 different tax forms for businesses alone, asking a total of 6,614 questions. - The notes explaining the Treasury's 'simplified' pensions' regime ran to 1,369 pages. - And why does the Inland Revenue feel the need to ask us on a tax return, whether we are deep-sea divers? - The law allows you to kill or give away a bullfinch - but not to sell or barter it. - A woman from Kilbride was given an ASBO forbidding her from answering the door in her underwear. - A council spent £5,000 planting yew trees to screen a new children's play area. It then dug them up again after health and safety experts advised children could fall ill if they gobbled 'several handfuls' of leaves. Red tape and more red tape... - One Police force discovered that it had a total of 1,150 different forms on which to report crimes. - There are 1,300 pages of road traffic law - and that does not even include the law preventing petrol stations selling hot food after 11pm unless they apply for a licence. - Employers must not hold important meetings on 31 October - it might discriminate against pagans, who, of course, celebrate the festival of Samhain on that day. - A motorist in Waltham Forest, East London, was fined for parking on double yellow lines that were not even there when he parked his car. The lorry painting the lines had drawn around the stationary vehicle. - The following things have been reported to be banned in at least one school: making daisy chains (risk of picking up germs); playing hopscotch (risk of injury); making anything out of egg boxes (fear of salmonella); putting hands up (makes pupils who don't have the answers feel victimised); and throwing paper aeroplanes (might cause eye injuries)... “And he shall set the sheep on his right hand, but the goats on the left.” (St Matthew 26.33) In just 16 words the Lord separated the sheep from the goats. If only the National Assembly of Wales could be so succinct. But sadly not. On 4 April 2006 it passed the Sheep and Goats (Records, Identification and Movement) (Wales) Order 2006, regulating the size, shape and colour of ear tags on Welsh sheep and goats. It ran to 45 pages. This dictates that the goat must not be moved (from one field to another!)unless it has an ear tag in place, and unless the details are recored in two seperate documents- the farmers own tag register and a movement document that accompanies the animal wherever it travels. Nothing is simple, even when its just common sense. Nothing exemplifies this better than the rules and regulations surrounding abandoned shopping trolleys. You and I might think it would simply be a case of the council ringing up any nearby super- markets and threatening to confiscate and crush any abandoned trolleys in their neighbourhood. But no! Under the Clean Neighbourhood and Environment Act 2005, the council first has to devise a 'shopping trolley policy' by following these costly and labour-intensive steps: 1. CONSULT with the British Retail Consortium, the Association of Town Centre Management, the Association Of Convenience Stores, the police, landowners and local residents. 2. PUBLISH notice of its resolution in at least one local newspaper. 3. IMPLEMENT the new policy as long as permission is sought from the occupier of the land where the trolley was found. 4. STORE the removed trolley for six weeks during which time it may be claimed by the owner. 5. CLAIM costs of transport, administration and storage in exchange for returning the trolley AND THERES MUCH Extracted from ‘How to label a Goat’ by Ross Clark (Harriman House, £9.99) Order @ £6.50 (p&p free) by going on http://www.harriman-house.com/goat I’m not selling anything and don’t have a stake in this[/b]- just thought could be great present!! Could be very useful 'putting world to rights' later in the pub!! :duffer: Regards Dave :nana2:
  2. Hi There I spose you all knew this, but until I was on the US NICO Club site just now, I just assumed that most 300's were TT's like here! Apparently no 2 + 2's were ever imported in TT form, and some US owners swapped in the TT engine. Only 2 seaters were imported in TT versions. Well Well- something we have that the Yanks dont!! Regards Dave
  3. Hi Reach up behind the bumper and you will find a couple of 10mm bolts. Regards Dave
  4. The Toyota 2000Gt above should be worshipped as the inspiration behind the 240Z when the design returned to Datsun (Nissan), beginning the whole Z era which resulted in our beautiful 300's- often called the 'what if', if the Toyota had not happened- perhaps Nissan would never have been inspired to re-establish the Z Car in the tradition of the 240Z and develop the 300ZX!! Despite only 380 odd ever produced, there is actually an owners forum!! Regards Dave
  5. Hi The problem seems to be that it is an import- they immediately said they are nolonger doing them. This car is 1989, so they immediately know that is an import. All the insurers I have spoken with during the last 6 hours!!!! :headvswal have said that if someone insures an import with them, but does not state it is an import, that if there is a claim the loss adjusters would use that as a reason to reject the claim and effectively the car would not be covered! Regards Dave
  6. Hi Do you have a number for them at all? Regards Dave
  7. Hi All Cant seem to find anyone who will quote on a 1989 Import TT! All the standbys like Carole Nash, Norton etc nolonger handle imports- apparently because of the number of claims! As soon as I say 1989 they know it is an import as they only list from 1990 (UK)- however the ones I spoke to said that if there was on a claim on a later year one and the insurace company found it was an undeclared import, they may not pay out! I have two other policies with 100% no claims etc so no problems there. Does anyone have anyone else I can try- pleeeese!!! Regards Dave
  8. Hi Many Thanks but even Norton say they can no longer handle imports!!! This is now desperate- surely someone knows someone who still handles imports? Dave
  9. Hi All Desperately trying to find insurance for my 1989 import- reasonable from First Alternative @ 305 until find it is an import- no dice. Carole Nash- no imports Anyone found one - & reasonable? Pleeeese!!! Regards Dave
  10. This must be something everyone has experienced!! 12v/13w capless bulbs for the High level Spoiler Brake light. Accesory Shops/ Lucus/ tradeparts dont keep them- Nissan dont even list them!! Nearest I copuld find had a much larger bulb that wouldnt go through bulb holder. Has anyone found somewhere that sells them @ a reasonable price- or where I can import them? Will buy 10 @ a reasonable price. Regards Dave
  11. Just the answer I needed! Many Thanks Dan. Regards Dave
  12. Hi All Just fitted super new crystal clear front bumper indicator units with Chrome bulbs. However on these they had the outer bulb holder cut out which was blanked off on the old ones. What are these for? Mine is a Jap import- are they used on the UK versions? The opening looks the same as on the side lights- does anyone have any old sidelight bulbholders that I can use as dummies with chrome bulbs? Also- are the amber sidelights on the rear bumper wired up & lit on some versions?- I would like to change these for clear also but they seem to be about £40 on ebay- bit steep for a tiny bit of plastic- anyone know of cheaper. Many Thanks & Regards Dave
  13. Many Thanks Smithy- reassured! Regards Dave
  14. Hi Just fitted my beatifully refurbished alloys (AVS bought from Mantav8) & they look absolutly stunning- bit worried about clearance of fronts to calipers tho. There is approx 3mm between caliper (Alloy type) & inside of wheels- is this sufficent- how much do they expand when hot? Hope you experts can advise wether need to fit a 3mm spacer! Regards Dave
  15. Just a bit more stirring!= even more interesting, D of Transport recommendations under 1996 regs!; Table 1 - Appropriate Road Hump Heights for Approximate "Between Hump" Mean Speeds Road Hump Type Mean "Between Hump" Speed (approximately) 30mph Mean "Between Hump" speed (approximately) 20mph Suggested maximum on/off ramp gradient Round Top 50mm - 75mm(1) 75mm(1) N/A Flat Top 50mm - 75mm(1) 75mm(1) 1:10 Raised Junction 50mm - 100mm 75mm - 100mm 1:10 Cushion 60mm - 75mm Without other measures may not be appropriate 1:8 "Thump" 35 - 45mm. Up to 50mm heights have been used, but may cause unnecessary discomfort Not really appropriate where low speeds are required. N/A Note: (1) Heights above 75mm are not generally recommended Regards Dave
  16. Hi All Noticed various comments over the years about these- even damage & grounding especially for Z'ds! Came across 1999 Road Hump Regulations today- apparently max hieght permissable is only 100mm- trials of different humps only used 75mm! Seen plently higher than this especially in London- if you run foul worth measuring, photographing & taking advice I reckon as they dont have a leg to stand on - What do you all think? Regards Dave
  17. Ajay Paid renewal by Paypal last night- Sun 22.45 approx but not sure if my details on as requested! Can't email you with those details on your profile as your sticky requests as blocked. 18. Hi There Just renewing my subs & see new members get a welcome pack for the extra £5- just wondered, I know I got a couple of stickers a year ago- was this the welcome pack? Dave
  19. Hi Why go to the trouble & expense of cutting it up and a skip? Take off what you want and one of the local yards will pick up for nothing or may even pay something unless you live a 100 miles from civilisation!! Steel prices up by 30% apparently so Scrap price shot up- China etc sucking in like a black hole- so scrap cars at last worth something! Regards, Dave
  20. Brill- I'll get it on the ramp next week and do it! :xxx: Don't know about 'nomates'!- certainly be mine and his if it works! Anyone know of the best source for autobox sump gaskets?- I'll do mine @ same time! Regards Dave
  21. Hoping for some inspiration for a freind. 300NA Auto. For some time has been quite lazy changiong up- lags and revs during shifts. Got progressively worse & now really struggles to get into 3rd. Carried out the manual diagnostic and this showed up perfect. TPS appears to work OK and hav'nt got a Conzult. Any ideas?- don't know when the oil was last changed (its done 55,000 miles- apparently)- would it do this if the filter was choked up? Any Help much appreciated! (he's so frustrated he's talking about joining the ranks of ex- owners!) :( Regards to all, Dave
  22. Right part- Throttle Position Sensor! On most cars the ECU depends on this to determine management for the engine -a basic potentiometer- 3 copper strips with a contact moving across them. On a lot of cars and while we've got rid of distributor contacts and other wearing mechanical parts for some reason you still find these! They wear and break down but arn't changed like points used to be as a matter of course. When I unplugged my own engine it ran like sh.......t - couldn't idle etc- which if you think about is obvious because the rest of management has little info about throttle opening and can't regulate fuel etc.. Possibly therefore yours has packed up and it shows these symptoms and continues to show symptoms when unplugged- bit like taking the lead off a faulty plug and no change in engine firing showing faulty plug. About £20 second- hand and if changed needs setting up- simple job-detailed in advice search on Forum under TPS. Cheap possibility especially if you can borrow a proven good one to try! Could be worth a try? Regards, Dave
  23. Hi At the risk of sounding daft I suppose you have checked your TPS has not become disconnected or packed up?- without it your ECU has no idea of what your engine is doing! Regards, Dave
  24. Ajay Many apologies- thought you had it from the Fog lenses or the Registered Members list. Will pm you it. Cheers, Dave
  25. Ajay Small Gripe! You confirmed my subs @ 1st March- since then nothing. Must have got missed out as you mailed those who have joined since. Regards, Dave
