Misfire 300zx tt
I had a split intake pipe on my turbo Capri, it was fine till it was on boost where it opened like an eye and faultered massively. It wasn't obvious as it was a thick pipe and a 1 inch slit down the side. Took quite a squeeze to open it up.

Hi mate, welcome to the forum :thumbup1: Good advice above on the injectors, 6/6 is ideal. A boost leak, or rather an "air" leak, could make it run badly throughout, it is a right snake's orgy under that bonet, pipes going all over the place. They experience mild and strong vacuum, then mild and strong positive pressure. It could be drawing in un-metered air at idle, then might be alright under other conditions, before leaking boost under load. So I wouldn't rule it out. Let us know how you get on :clover:

spoiler or not?
Keep it on :thumbup1: you have the diffuser and the canards, keep the set. I hate to be anything but positive, but if you changed the bonnet and nose back to standard, I think the sharp triangular side profile you would get, from the high spoiler down to the canards, would look absolutely spot on mate.

Front mount inter coolers?!
Suprised it hasn't been said already mate but "Get some pictures up!" Oh and as you're a zed newbie, a goose honk kit doesn't make your car honk  it is a problem zeds get where you hear a resonance in the intake pipes. It is a combination of things but hard pipes and pod filters make it more auidible, then old recircs and increased boost make it louder. It sounds like blowing over a milk bottle and/or a wet finger round a wine glass rim. The kit beefs up your recircs to get rid of the noise, my set up sounds better than any dump valve. It surges a bit and whooshes with a tiny bit of honk still there, just enough that it is like a high pitched accompaniment to the sci-fi sneeze of 16psi gear change.

Waterless coolant
On a loosely related matter. Can you heat wrap silicon radiator hoses? I ask because my new ones are blue and they look rubbish.

What did you do to your zed today?
All payed up thanks Gary :thumbup1: Si I will help you do that mate, give me a month you want to do it in and I will make sure I am available at some point that month. I have a busy year ahead of me!

Front mount inter coolers?!
This ground has been covered many times before, there are a lot more SMIC options out there and they are arguably a better system for a zed. I have the Ash Spec 2.5in intercooler pipe kit and Bell SMICs from CZP (no longer available from there) they are very good. When it comes to BOVs again they arguably don't really work on a zed because of the way it measures it's intake air. Plenty of people use them without issue, other people (me included) had issues with stalling and stumbling. Noz didnt use any sort of BOV at all for a while without issue, but I use the BDE goose honk kit in the standard recircs and that again is an awesome set up, Jaffa used that set up so that was good enough for me. Welcome to the forum. Noz is the man when it comes to sweet running engines and Jaffa has a million horsepower time attack car.

Haha, last time I told my car it was going to ten of the best it cowered like a rescue dog and left a brown pile of rust on the floor! Workshy little Devil that it is  I need to give Gary a tenner I have been demoted :( how do I do that again?

What did you do to your zed today?
An update on my zed for those interested. You may remember I tried to do a quick overhaul before I went to the falklands in November. Well I did manage it but that's not the end of the story. I had kind use of a mate's garage and a month to get it done, I forget exactly what I did but to solve a crap idle and vac leak sonewhere I pulled the plenum and did some deletes, replaced everything with new red sfs hoses, replaced the fuel injectors, fitted a new wiring dynamics harness, new s2 ptu, water sensors... and... and... and... I did a lot to it. It took a bit of shakedown to get it to run, as it had a new IACV AAC as well as the rest, it had a few leaks after a couple of heat cycles loosened some bolts, but then it worked  Then on the first successful drive, at the top of third gear it put on the battery and ABS lights. This is what you get when you throw the alternator belt by the way! I got it into the garage within 6 minutes by which time the oil temperature was at 118 degrees and the heaters stopped working (PANIC) I shut her off, had a little cry and went to the falklands. Over the last 3 days I have spent 28 hours on the car (Yes it took me that long, a lot of stuff was 25 years in place and I had to go and find a bearing puller on a sunday) anyway I have replaced the waterpump, it was this that seized and threw the belt, new water hoses and belts and it is up and running. 40 miles without a problem. It is absolutely mega, all the work I have done, it runs like a sewing machine. I am absolutely committed to the car, as long as I am alive so will it be. If it burns down to leave a pile of glass and 4 alloy wheels, I will rebuild it. Thanks for reading, It's good to be back.

Exhaust
I have Hollings' Japspeed now, I like it a lot, it clearly produces good power and response, I am under the car quite a bit and it is still solid. It is quite a soft noise, bassy but doesn't invade the cabin, barks like hell at WOT, inside the car it is subtle, outside it rasps pretty well. Bloody good value if it was 270 pounds.

Happy Birthday tomfromthenorth
Hello everyone  I got home late on Sunday, was fairly knackered, 6000 miles is a long way on a plane but longer sat between two babies  however, I would have clung to the undercarriage to get home. As is traditional I need to give Gary some money for me renewal today  bear in mind a lot of my money has penguins on it! I am currently in the bar of a lovely hotel in Kendal, waiting for Sarah who I met in the Falklands for a nice mini break. Also, I will do my waterpump as soon as I can so I can get back into zedding. Hope you are all well, happy new year, well done JoelyP, catch up soon guys

What did you do to your zed today?
Just wanted to say I am off to the Falklands today and don't know what the internet situation will be this time. Last time we had cheeky use of the engineer's company wifi but that has been stopped now as I understand it. Anyway, I may not be on here and just in case I wanted to wish everyone a happy Christmas and New Year, as well as safe motoring over the winter, I don't want to come back next year and have 5 threads about panel beating and putting back wheels back on straight  I should have a good time, it is hardly a proper detachment (which makes sense because I am hardly in the military ) the weather will be half decent and I am with a good crew. Gym and Ukulele this time round, you don't get many call outs down there, last time the most interesting one was a Navy guy that fell over watching a CSE (forces entertainment) dancing girls show and knocked himself out! Anyway, watch how you go guys :thumbup1:

That looks a lot like Draxan's old zed, (I know it isn't!) I always liked that one too, really nice wheels. Don't I feel silly for saying "you don't see many black zeds" about 90 minutes ago

Hello!
That's a nice looking zed mate, you don't see too many black ones and the sun strip adds to the look quite subtly. Watch how you go :thumbup1:

Salutations, one and all.
I think we can blame Juiced on your playstation and the new car market for this one. Back when steve and I were getting our 90s hatchbacks, 100bhp was loads, I can not believe how powerful new small cars are, audi A1s and vw foxes all have a lot of power these days. To get a citroen ax with 45bhp or whatever these days is difficult, the scrappage scheme a few years ago can not have helped. I am quite lucky that yesterday I drove both a 1.6 (mine) and a 1.8 mx5 (mum's). Both plenty quick, don't get hung up on power figures, power just covers up for poor driving and gets you into trouble. My citroen AX did not splutter, I never failed to get up a steep hill and any overtakes I managed were well planned and beautifully timed maneuvers. You learn about planning ahead, reading the road all that good stuff in a less powerful car. It would do 80mph what more do you need. Do not get me wrong my zed has huge performance and I use it all, I think I am pretty handy behind the wheel and it keeps me on my toes, even as confident as I am, I think very carefully before going full throttle. A 1.6 mx5 or FTO or hyundai coupe is a quick car. It ia just that in todays market, entry level is also quick and from there the range goes all the way to stupidly powerful (audi s/rs line and bmws)

Well you seem sensible enough mate but I had to say my piece as I don't want to see you lose money, get hurt or get into bother with the law. I will give you the best case and worst case scenarios for buying a zed. Best case, Adrian flux do you a good deal you buy that (really nice) blue zed tax and insure it for inside £4000. You drive it to college for a year, covering about 4000 miles and average 30 to the gallon, spending 800 quid on fuel and do a service costing 100. So in a year you spend £5000. In the mean time you have an absolute blast driving a stunning car and you smile every time you drive it. Worst case, I am by no means suggesting you're going to go mad and end up on fire half way up a tree here. You manage to get the zed on the road but leave yourself pretty tight. You love the car (rightly so) but while finding your feet with the car and a busy urban area, with a speedo that goes up to 180mph accidentally do 40 in a 30 and get 3 points, you're then knackered. You go over a nail and need a new tyre at £120 then your water pump lets go... or your clutch goes, or a turbo properly dies. Or you boost up in the wet and skid your tail into a curb and damage your back left alloy coming off a roundabout. You end up having to sell the zed at a loss to get a clio instead. Buy a banger and a zed. That zed is going to be a grand to insure, just sorn it for a year, then you will be able to drive it far more cheaply rather than find yourself tight, unable to enjoy it. Someone else at your college will ding it in the car park. Back me up people or tell me I am wrong. Edit. Something like these 2 are what I am thinking http://www.gumtree.com/p/mazda/mazda-mx5-mk1-1990/1088916121 http://www.gumtree.com/p/nissan/nissan-300zx-/1087282460
