The excitement of been a new 300zx owner
I'm sure a lot of people had my experience. I bought an already modded car, that needed work immediately. I honestly really like standard cars. The red one in your opening post is a dream. But they are mega rare and I followed a (in my opinion) "better than new/stock" approach to my refurbishment of the car. And In my opinion, a standard zed isn't sporty enough to satisfy my car dreams.

finally picked up my Z on sunday
That's what I did. Stillen arbs set to stiff for cornering, meister r coilovers set fairly soft and (relatively) very high. Comfort and performance.

PTU relocation
I think it may prolong the life of a S1 PTU by taking it away from heat a little. That being said my S1 PTU was working fine when I replaced it with a S2 one which is in the stock location. But so many people have no faith in a S1 PTU I thought I'd get rid of it.

White UK 300 breaking
Hi mate, I'd like pretty much all of the rubbers if they are in good nick. Particularly the ones that go round the headlights and beneath the door windows. And the front indicator repeater seals. On the wings. I'd discuss the front windows if they're for sale too. So. -headlight rubbers -door window rubbers -indicator repeater seals -windows please :) thank you.

Tick over problem
I possibly went a bit ott when I wasn't happy with my idle. But I did a plenum pull. I found all sorts of things that weren't quite right. None of them a big issue by themselves but all added up to be a problem. I rebuilt my iacv assembly. Seapped the loom for a wiring specialties one. Fitted a s2 ptu. Replaced the injectors. Cleaned the throttle bodies. Removed the egr. replaced the pcv valves as well as other stuff. 02 sensors... It just tidied up (as it was then) 24 years of things going brittle and black. It ran better afterwards and I learned a lot about my car.

Tick over problem
Yeah, as Stephen says, there are a few moving parts in idle speed. The physical throttle bodies (don't touch) idle screw on the iacv and the tps comes into it too. I think those hoses are 4mm and 6mm. ASH are a bit average in quality, but fine for vac hose http://www.autosiliconehoses.com/silicone-hose-shop/performance-silicone-hoses/vacuum-silicone-hoses.html These are quite handy too. Better than a screw in a bit of hose. http://www.autosiliconehoses.com/silicone-hose-end-caps-2-pack-blanking-plug-bung-4mm-to-32mm.html Cure all vac leaks, clear all codes, comfirm your injectors and things are all firing. Then follow the wiki guide on a tps and base idle set up.

Vibration through steering wheel under braking.
Excellent article. Makes you wonder how you ever manage to have a car 'without' DVT as they call it. I have K Sports, they are really good and mine have lasted a very long time with lots of track type use. The standard black pads aren't suitable though. I now have yellowstuffs which are much better.

Making a start in 2018.
Orange may look a bit too much. Like those rover 25 sport things, that had either green or orange highlights all over them. But it might look ace

Joely, love it  Could it be paired with a conventional spoiler to bridge the gap over the back window? I bet you could, you could use that little spoiler like a gurney flap and then link it up with a mid level spoiler. But that would aerodynamically make the back of your car the same shape as a porche 944.

Please help me diagnose a problem on a lexus
Yeah it does. I think he got the wrong discs and pads. The pads had built in anti squeal shims and I briefly had double shims in there till I realised it was too fat and took the lexus ones out. The discs probably don't have the right clearance at the back and the back plate is more likely bent than the shaft. As Stephen said if the shaft and bearing were gone it'd be horrid to drive. So It's probably the back plate and disc combination.

Please help me diagnose a problem on a lexus
Yeah that's why I made that little "runout gauge" haha. From a puller and a socket. I thought the same, the tip would draw a little circle in the air. As it is the entire wheel and brake are turning in a flat plane, but with a bit of positive camber. But it is definitely enough that it has come into contact with that back plate. And it worsens if you turn away from it... load it up.

Please help me diagnose a problem on a lexus
Not as you'd expect with a bearing. And it doesn't grumble. It just "skiffs" on that plate. Which is why I think something may be bent? But nothing is obvious to me. It's the sort of csr that would have had a snow into a curb moment.

Please help me diagnose a problem on a lexus
Oh and it only does it in left hand turns when that side is under load. Wheel bearing?

Please help me diagnose a problem on a lexus
I've been helping a neighbour with his IS200 lexus. There was a scraping noise which I have found to be the disc catching the hub. I think someone has walloped the back wheel of a curb and bents things. But it could be a wheel bearing or an assembly mistake. It has done it for the r months he has owned the car. You can see the plate with the wheel studs on it is positively cambered. There is the scuffage. Please suggest which parts could be causing this. I couldn't get it off because my hub puller kept slipping. But I think it may be the shaft not the hub. I tried to reseat it too in case it wasn't on all the way.

Vibration through steering wheel under braking.
Discs not balanced. I don't even know if it's a thing. I was going to say you could have a wheel not ballanced or buckled, but that would be there independent of braking. However if your discs aren't balanced they could do that but pass a runout test. A manufacturing flaw perhaps. It's a bit of a whacky suggestion but you're into wierd and wonderful territory. Consider trying some odd stuff like swapping wheels about.

New guy
Haha. The least popular man in the world. Turbo Noz. He used nistune iirc. I specifically asked him to do a reliable tune though. I said to him turn the car up to 10 then knock it back to 8 I dont want mega power, I want as much as can be trusted. I wasn't on the forum around the time he left but I think he was blamed or possibly even responsible for blowing some cars up. He was always fine with me, if a little too laid back and hard to get a timeline out of.

New guy
Mine is an unopened Auto engine with a manual gearbox I got it with 45'000 miles on it. Before 60'000 I had over 400 at the rear wheels and now it has 87'000 miles on it. My mods have been all intake based, cooling, mapping of the stock ecu... There was a lot of Refurbing or replacing stock for stock. Like new 340 injectors, fuel lines and regulators. New vac lines. New loom. BDE goose honk kit. Big intercoolers. A full decat and downpipe back exhaust.Selin. Some deletes, and light bits. So it's nothing too crazy but the car has responded really well. It is very fast and has run 16psi for nearly 30'000 miles! On the original auto turbos and internals. Just lots of oil changes and I always warm it up and cool it down. The next step is manifolds and downlipes for me. VG30s can be great.

New guy
My first thoughts on the SR are the normal ones... Are you mad! Why downsize to that! That's a lot of work for 300hp! But, my second set of thoughts are a bit more balanced. It would be easier to work on. I can imagine it would be cheaper after the initial outlay, as you say, one turbo, 4 injectors etc. I don't know what the weights are but it must be lighter and it may be possible to make a zed really handle with one. You may be able to cover some costs selling the VG and it would be fun to get it all done right. But it would be very easy to take the vg out, have a right F*** on trying to get an SR20 in there and end up unfinished and have to abandon it, or worse get it working and be disappointed with the result. A SWB slicktop NA would be similar in lightness and performance to a SR20 LWB targa. But hey, you know all this. Do whatever gets you excited about the zed  I have some advice for making a fun VG zed. But I know cock all about SR20s
