  1. I may go to 7s then. My car always drives well fast but can sometimes be a bit less refined if driven slowly for too long. 7s may be the compromise to go for. Shouldn't the gap be as big as you can get away with. And as I understand it spark "blow out" (I know it's not being blown out but it happens because the boost is putting too many air molecules in the way of the spark between the electrodes) is just a soft stumble???
  2. http://www.ngksparkplugs.com/about-ngk/tech-talk/spark-plug-basics I just read that and know a lot more about plug heat ranges. It maes perfect sense and I should have read and learned it years ago. The number and heat range is linked to the physical dimensions of the plug and how heat soaked it gets. This has to match your engine and driving style to keep any plug in it's sweet spot. Under drive a plug and cause it to be too cold and it will soot up. Over work one, it will become too hot and you will cause knock and det and stuff. So hot plugs get hot easilly but self clean well. Cold ones take more to overheat. If you pootle about with cold (big number) plugs, they will soot up. However, if you nail it around at 7000rpm with hot small number plugs they will overheat. So... pick your heat range and drive accordingly. I have to rev my 8 grade plugs or they will soot up. It all makes sense :)
  3. I've used the noel plugs, the BR8ES (I think) for 30'000 miles and I've put about 6 sets in. They have been fine for me. I always forget the gap and so have to measure the ones I remove and make sure the ones going in are the same. I think, it's about 0.8mm I don't think the gap is as much as the 1.1 mentioned above. I only want whats best for my car, but like all these things, there are so many conflicting oppinions. Playing it safe, I know these work for my set up. So I've stuck with them. Open minded to change though.
  4. JayJay that looks awesome. Great choice of wheels I really like it. The wedge you've achieved with the chin splitter and the spoiler makes that LWB look amazing.
  5. Happy Birthday and health to enjoy :drink: :thumbup1:
  6. I think he should start with getting it tracked. I'm prepared to be wrong. But I think it was physical. All the mazda people are saying things like. The DSC is very sensitive to the wrong tyres. It can't be alignment because its only using wheel speed to trigger the system (well geometry can cause slip and therefore wheel speed). Rx8s don't like the wrong tyres Don't mix and match front and rear tyre type (I get that for left/right but not front/back. Mine are always different front/back) Reset various ecus (really?) Is it the diff causing it (surely not) Is a rear brake dragging (could be that on the unloaded tyre I s'pose) I just think it's a physical thing  I'd be so supprised if it's something else. I asked if he'd had the wheel off or moved the yaw sensor so it's twisted.
  7. Unless the yaw sensor or something is screwey and it is just triggering the stability programme prematurely on left turns. It makes a rasp noise like going over a cattle grid and you feel it flat spot and you get the skiddy car symbol comes up. It was doing this on a normal swooping left, but let me do about 1G at 45mph all the way round a roundabout.
  8. Well, I didn't want to suggest my thoughts as I wanted people's un biased ideas. The problem came about after he changed both rear tyres from sport ones to rubbish ones following a puncture. He thinks it's his new rear tyres. But they are both the same tyre, and the problem is very much a left hand only problem as if the back right was flat and it was wet. I think there is a grometry problem or a bush gone or something that I can't find without jacking it up. Because I thought it turned left more readilly than it turned right. So I think it is correct TCS/DSC response to a mechanical loss of grip, which was previously masked by having really sticky tyres.
  9. Ok... perhaps not 'all' suggestions are welcome
  10. Short and sweet, my mate's rx8 has a traction control problem. If you turn left the tcs kicks in very easilly, under quick but totally legal driving and you can hear it, feel it and the light comes on. As part of the test drive I did with him, I went right at a roundabout at a startling rate and it didn't do anything at all, then as I turned left off it quite gently, full tcs event. No flat tyres. No smoking gun. Help me please with what people think it could be. All suggestions welcome. Thanks :)
  11. Mate just to be a bit more clear. The reason I say 4 and a bit, is because it may vary with oil coolers and stuff. But the important thing is that Zeds don't really hold a lot of oil, it's not much more than 4 and the dipstick goes from dry to over full in no time. Over full is as bad as too little, so put 3.8 in, then be patient and do it bit by bit. With regard to viscosity, people run all sorts. But I have gone from 40-something to nearly 90'000 miles using 10-40 semi. In that tine it has had multiple track days and and a lot of time at full boost and 5500rpm, the car has stock auto turbos at 16psi with no issues so far. I change the oil about every 2000 miles, but my car makes it very clear to me when it wants fresh oil so sometimes it's changed sooner. I can only speak from my own experience and I may be very lucky, but I can say it's worked well for me. When I had stock brakes I put 5.1 in but then upgraded to my Ksports. When I had to buy new fluid I either couldn't afford or buy enough of the 5.1so refilled with 4. It has been absolutely fine. :clover: :thumbup1:
  12. 4 and a bit liters of 10-40 semi or fully. I use semi. I've used Dot 4 and 5.1.
  13. Don't sell yourself short. I'd class yours as a stunner too. I'd like to know more about how you did the lights.
  14. I did some maths around the time, iirc, changing your wheel size an inch (I did all the maths with rim diameter, tyre height and then rolling circumference of it all) can drop rpm at 70mph by about 75rpm. I nearly did it to take the edge off the slightly revvier motorway cruising.
  15. I think it's all good with mine. It is really quick now, 3rd is a monster. I don't think it's uncontrollable or all wheelspin. Perhaps it is if you just go WOT and wait. But with a bit of right foot awareness it's fine. It is lighter and simpler. It's not a lot more revvy really. However, I don't have as much power as you do. 1st is just a burnout 2nd feels similar to how it always did, it's just savage. 3rd feels like 2.5 4th feels like 3.5 and 5th feels slightly longer than 4th was.
  16. That said, I toasted my diff on a wet track day at Ty Croes, I wasn't really giving it big drifts either, I now have 1 wheel drive a lot of the time :( Perhaps an oil cooler would have helped.
  17. Have I gone mad, I can't see any ignition stuff  edit Found a great shot of a VG30DET It must just be under those trim strips :)
  18. Quality control I s'pose. Mine was a duff one :-/
  19. I got an XTD clutch and it slipped immediately and was a waste of money. I have a competition 6 puck and it's great. Those and stock are my experience. I'm sure Si and Joely are right about RPS. Your problems could be propshaft out of true and/or balance.
  20. Don't worry Joely, I wasn't planning on doing it. You'd have such difficulty with vac lines and losing IACV too. It was more of a technical thought experiment. So the balance bar would defend against slightly mismatched turbos? I wonder how much harm would come from removing it, and setting up a 2 psi mis match or something. Would it physically damage the engine due to the asymmetry
  21. I saw this picture on instagram. How well does a zed run without a ballance bar? I've never really thought about it, I've always thought nissan knew best.
  22. May have oversold this one a bit  I hit a mega pothole yesterday in my Accord. Check this bad boy out! It wasn't obvious that it was a bloody quarry before I hit it, in the the light and a shadow and what not. But hell it hit hard. I knew within 3 seconds it'd burst and pulled up and did a F1 grade space saver swap. I'm waiting at a tyre place in Shrewsbury atm, getting rid of the yellow wheel of shame. Which was pretty flat haha. But I found a petrol station within 2 miles. Hopefully I'll claim it back from Chester council. I'll let you know how I get on. Other notes, the car drove fine on the space saver, absolutely fine haha. I took it easy mind. Also, yesterday I did the ninja warrior thing in Manchester and it was awesome. Well worth a visit if you're ninja grade. :)
  23. Happy OEM+ Birthday mate. Hopefully you can get out in it today :)
  24. It's not the same as mine but you're right it's similar. Mine's a JUN, it's a bit more rounded that that one. I may have to change it now I've learned it's not on the Approved Funky list of bumpers ;-)
