1. It depends on the gearbox. Most cars will have varying ratios. Basically you want to select the ratio closest to 1:1 to minimise transmission losses and innacuracy when calculating flywheel HP. On a manual Z32 4th is exactly 1:1 (as said by Dave, above). A supra TT manual and a skyline GTR will use 5th gear for 1:1 Your 200sx (assuming S14) should have been done in 4th.
2. A de-limiter (speed) is done by reprogramming the ECU. A MPH conversion can be done by fitting UK 180mph clocks (the proper way) or soldering in a kmh/mph convertor behind the JDM instrument cluster.
3. Yes, I read somewhere that you need the SMG clocks as well, so that means you need all the wiring looms and ecu's etc. If you could simply get it running a bit Heath Robinson activating the clutch and upshifts/downshifts I reckon it would be a good toy!
4. I came accross this on E-Bay and it got me thinking........ http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=200317049648&ssPageName=STRK:MEWA:IT&ih=010 I wonder what other kit you need to get this thing working? My understanding is it is a proper 7 speed manual gearbox (no shitty torque converters) so it should be quite efficient! They seem to shift nice and fast, take a look at the following video: XUBV6xzzLsk That car has 720hp and achieves 229mph so I'd say it's a fairly strong 'box :mac1:
5. All RWD my friend :D They were based on the 1960's Lotus Elan which was a proper car and RWD :duffer: OMG... What tool put that on the dyno? And where is the owner to tell him it's RWD? Does the owner even know it's RWD? :D:D
6. Lower inlet manifold does need to be removed. I think you need to remove the L/H side exhaust manifold too because of the dipstick. I made a special tool to undo the headbolts, it was a 1/2" drive 10mm impact driver (full hex) and a short piece of 10mm allen key. You can then get a decent breaker bar on it and it's slim enough to fit down without removing camshafts. HTH Rob.
7. Actually, EGR has it's uses ;) It can be used to lower combustion chamber burn temperatures and reduce detonation. The theory is when it feeds in inert (burnt) exhaust gasses there is no oxygen contained within and thus it's unable to burn a full charge. It effectively reduces the capacity on the engine ;) Still, it hasn't stopped me getting rid of it but I just wanted you to know the risks :) HTH Rob.
8. I think you're right! They have a '99 spec N/A engine breaking too!!!! http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/NISSAN-300ZX-FAIRLADY-NON-TURBO-1999-V6-VG30-ENGINE_W0QQitemZ370164671265QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM?hash=item370164671265&_trksid=p3911.c0.m14&_trkparms=72%3A1683%7C66%3A3%7C65%3A12%7C39%3A1%7C240%3A1318
9. Those ones pictured are top feed not side feed. We're quite limited for our injectors. Not many cars use side feed Bosch type plug injectors :(
10. I'd put an aftermarket gauge on to double check before going through all the trouble of changing an oil pump.
11. That's unimpressive. I got a bigger engine on my strimmer :D   Seriously, you know it's big when it has 2 walkways on it!!
12. Spill the beans then LeGraph ;) Where did you get them from? :D
13. For sure £10 is plain daylight robbery. :xxx::slap: I have no problem fitting non-gen parts as long as they are equal/better than stock.
14. Is it the drivers side rear cylinder? There are 2 plugs that can be mixed up IIRC............
15. Just to put a dampener on it......... Those are 8.8 tensile bolts not 12.9 as stated by JD It DOES make a big difference! 12.7 are 'fully' high tensile if you will. You cant get a stronger pin than that. 8.8 is fairly mediocre IMO and I wouldn't use them as flywheel bolts lads. Keep searching for 12.9. :duffer:
16. Daft question time......... How can you tell it's rotating? Are you driving it at walking speed and jamming on the brakes with someone alongside? What happens when you do it in reverse? do you get a clunk?
17. Mine has wierd readings too, when cold it can be 100+psi, when hot it can even drop to 0 for ages :( then come back up.
18. Something sounds very wrong there....... the caliper should not move at all as it's bolted up solid to the hub.
19. I never had any contact with him, but to see all those people there giving him a good send off makes me think he was a wonderfull person. RIP OldGit/Dave
20. Blimey! It's about time :D :D Get some lovely V-Power in there and get those targas off! You'll soon fall in love with it all over again. It will be like when you bought it home first time round ;)
21. ................... You know, Cabbage soup has quite a following these days! :) LOL only kidding. I just wondered what was in these spam-bot messages really... In fact how do they manage to get joined up and post something? Strange. Oh well :) :duffer:
22. I reckon you ought to open up a "Spam Area" to move all these posts to. I'd like to read some of them to see if there was anything interesting :D
23. This truly had me in stiches! Those crazy Arabs are at it again :D I bet you can't guess how it ends ;)
24. What other business can you be in and trade recklessly, owe BILLIONS, then get given free cash to 'help out' and be paid a bonus for doing so equal to a lottery win every annum........... Something's wrong somewhere and I can't quite put my finger on it........:xxx:
