  1. I just found my compression test results.... RH LH 145 137 145 137 155 140 Front 140-160psi is acceptable range. Strange thing is the RH bank (145,145,155) is the one that smokes the most. But as Manta says, compression can be ok with a busted oil ring. But would you have combustion gasses also passing and going into the crankcase? Many thanks, :duffer: to all :D
  2. From my experience turbo seal failiure is clouds and clouds of smoke straight from startup. (I've done about 4 turbos now)
  3. Eric thanks, I've just been talking to my Father about this and he suggested rings too  . But we did a compression test a while ago and he said the results were fine for a 105k mile car. IIRC all were in tolerance except 1 which was 2psi below minimum. Max difference between any 2 was 10psi. But it's not blowing any smoke out the dipstick at all. I shall also revise something, minimal traces of white smoke (oil) on a hot tickover. This is really doing my head in now but thanks all for your advice :duffer: :duffer:
  4. LOL thanks. Will see if it gets better or worse with more usage then I guess :duffer:
  5. A stock clutch will lunch itself pretty quickly running higher boost. It's the extra torque the motor produces that will kill it.
  6. Yes, I think this too, as a fuel economy increaser... OK so as to tell you guys what the problem is, smoke. I get NO SMOKE on startup at all. After driving a bit I get white smoke on a closed throttle overrun, then when I open the throttle it goes blue for a short while until it clears completely. It smokes out of the RH pipe more than LH Ticking over hot or cold=no smoke. I have just done PCV valves ~80 miles ago, VERY little difference. Both tubs were done ~300 miles ago? Why I was asking about overrun fueling is I'm thinking valve stem seals have gone. When you take your foot off the throttle the intake goes into vacuum right? Sucking oil from wherever it can do. Now as there is no petrol in the cylinders burning, the compression ratio is not enough to ignite the oil/air mix...hence white smoke When I open the throttle the injectors fire up again and will burn off all the remaining oil on the inlet valves etc etc hence blue smoke. How does this theory sound? Has anyone had their valve stem seals deteriorate on a Z32? Thanks peeps!!
  7. LOL thanks, I got the roundy-roundy-uppery-downery bit figured ;) So sometimes there is fuel being supplied on overrun? could you please clarify this as I'm getting closer to my answer now :p :duffer:
  8. Gearbox spigot bush in the crankshaft for one...
  9. Just to add mine is a 1990 UK TT Manual if that makes any difference.
  10. Sorry for long title :p Anyway, for those of you out there who have an exact understanding of how it works, I have a question... On a coastdown with 0% throttle open, what is happening in the engine? Are the injectors applying fuel? Are the spark plugs operating? I need this information to try and cure a prob i'm having. Many thanks you brainy bunch :D Rob.
  11. Santa? Merry Christmas :p :D only kidding. Thanks will have to run the car about a bit to clear the oil residue I guess. Chewie, you can at least see them when the bonnet is open LOL, you should have each side changed in under 30 mins. HTH Rob
  12. I'm just halfway through changing PCV valves that I bought from Mike Feeney yesterday to see if it helps/cures my smoking prob. Now the old PCV valves i took off (UK '90 TT Man) are slightly different to the new ones. The new ones have a 'plunger' in that is sprung halfway and then is free to float the other half of it's movement. The old ones have a plunger that is sprung all the way to the end. Quite possibly these are the original ones as i have had the car since 1999 and i have not changed them yet. Any comments on the above? Rob. N.B. My PCV hoses have quite a bit of oil in, why would this be?
  13. Awesome! A lot of work has gone into that machine.
  14. That's ace! Tried it without a number tho because I don't want any crap calls :p
  15. ............just had a fone call from pavarotti's family. So i got to wrk. Sheet of mdf £5.65. Glue £1.90 handlesand screws £1.50. Varnish 80 p. See u can make a coffin for a tenor.............. ....they have ordered an xtra large coffin for pav's funeral...its a Nissan Dorma.... Pav's at the pearly gates and St. Peter shouts over to God........."here's that tenor i owe you!" Apart from all the jokes, I find it's strange he's gone, I've heard about him all my life, so grew up with listening to him occasionally when mum and dad played his cds... RIP Pav.
  16. Apparently LPG is less harsh on the engine genrally than petrol... IE oil stays MUCH cleaner for MUCH longer.......
  17. OK thanks lads. Mine is smoking on closed throttle at the mo, and using oil. But it does not smoke just after starting up (classic valve stem seal) so I dunno...... Just got some PCV valves from MJP and I'm gonna fit them tomorrow and see what that brings me. All the best! Rob.
  18. @ chrisbond65 & sharky..... When your engine was smoking was it using any oil at all?
  19. Yep, been looking into this a little, I have the option of a 2001 X Volvo V70 T5 with around 2,000 miles on the clock. A lot of people on the Volvo forum have converted their T5's to LPG with no troubles. I cant see any problem doing the same to a zed really. http://www.volvoforums.org.uk/ do a searchy, might be of interest for somebody?....
  20. Aye! Got both of those somewhere..... ;) :duffer: :duffer:
  21. Ahhh he's only pulling your leg :) He don't bite unless really mad :p :smw:
  22. LOL LOL i just read the title and thought you were going on a rant about a computerised Piece Of Shi..... LOL LOL
  23. It might be worth having a dig through this lot.... http://www.300zx.co.uk/forums/search.php?searchid=1415477 HTH
  24. Top quality work there fella!!!!! :D (this comes from a toolmaker who knows his way around a miller) ;) Would like to see this in the flesh one day!! Keep it up dude. Rob.
  25. Ok for what it's worth, I broke my pipe when I fitted my large discs and calipers. I took the broken copper pipe to my local car spares shop and asked them to make a new one. £2.50 each was the price. I was very happy and problem solved, I actually bought 2 so I could replace the other side too ;) HTH Rob.
