  1. I haven't bought a replacement yet, but it will be a fibre glass one as I don't see any point in putting a nasty sponge back on. I'll probably get the Car.Mad one for £120. I'm looking at the options. £50 to £100 doesn't sound too bad! I'd do the prep myself, the old spoiler is off already so need to worry about that. TBH I like this - http://www.zcentre.co.uk/index.php?page=shop.product_details&flypage=flypage.pbv.tpl&product_id=330&category_id=87&option=com_virtuemart&Itemid=7 I'm hoping (with all fingers crossed) to put a bike rack on the back you see, so can't go with a huge spoiler, I think the OEM will be ok. I imagine having the lower skin fitted by a shop would be costly...and I'm looking more for a low cost option right now. Thanks all, at least I have an idea now! :)
  2. You'll be fine to start her on just water though; until you get coolant / antifreeze. Just to check she does start.
  3. Can anyone give me an idea of how much it would cost to have an OEM replacement spoiler professionally painted. It's been a long time since I had any work done, I'm guessing maybe £80, but could be totally wrong. I've painted and lacquered a spoiler in the past myself with good results, so considering doing it again. Alternatively any idea of the cost of having the original spoiler holes filled then the tail gate sprayed.
  4. So the interior lights aren't on the same circuit as the headlights? Looks like I'll be pulling that rear passenger panel off as soon as I can. At least I know where to start looking for problems.
  5. I agree with both statements. In the ice cold with a ruined OEM spoiler the tailgate didnt want to stay up, but it would in more normal temps. With the spoiler off though it flies up!!
  6. Ok, quick bit of background. My headlights were re-wired by the previous owner, I'm not sure why, but I'm left with no fog lights or interior lights / boot light. I have no permanent (switched) main beam, it obviously isn't wired through the relay which does this. The original headlight wires have been snipped from the loom and 'hard wired' directly to the battery and a switch on the side of the light pod. One main beam is wired up, the other is not, no plug for the bulb, nothing... This is all something I can all sort out later, somehow. Today whilst stripping the centre console I noticed an earth not connected, so I connected it. This fixed the clock, but I had hoped it was going to fix the interior lights too. This is the weird bit! Switching the map light switches brings on the dashboard light telling me a door is open (it also cause my Toad to chirp to alert me to this when armed). Obviously when the doors are open the interior lights should come on. So they've been re-wired incorrectly. My theory is that the map switches have accidentally been wired in as additional door switches, wired into the same circuit the switches are on. I'm trying to understand whats going on here and where the logical place would be to do this re-wiring, where does the interior light wiring join a main loom etc? I kinda get it, I think they have wired it directly from the door switches expecting to get power when the doors are open, but have ended up wiring in the map switches as additional switches. Either way I have no interior lights no matter what is switched or what is open. Sorry for the long post but its not the easiest thing to explain! If anyone has any clue I would most appreciate it!!
  7. Great, I like the sound of that! Thanks!
  8. Nope I'm definitely catless. I just have weird things in odd places! Hmmm...
  9. Well...its off...pretty much just ripped it off using manliness! :)
  10. My zed is K reg, which I think means I legally have to have a cat for the MOT? Do you think perhaps these are pretend cats to pass the MOT, but really just through pipes? Just guessing really.
  11. You mean someone made them? Oh great! Wonder what's in them...
  12. Can anyone tell me if these are cats or pre-silencers? I have no cat further up towards the engine, which is why I wondered if these were cats, fitted by someone trying to piece a system together using universal bits. It's very loud, so if these are pre-silencers they're not doing a very good job. Haven't seen any other Zeds with a similar system, I think I'm the only one, they're a pain for catching on things.
  13. I don't think they're bolts, but clips attached to the spolier.
  14. Thanks!! That's perfect! Thought I could swear I don't have that many bolts holding it on - The screws holing the brake light in are rusted away, not sure how I'm going to get that out. Thought this was going to be easier, typical...until tomorrow...
  15. I've got the main panel off the tailgate, but not the side panels. I've had a torch in all the nooks and even the crannys...but nothing except what looks like a small rubber bung in the centre.
  16. Ok, I've removed (by sheering off and chiselling) the two obvious bolts that hold on the OEM spoiler. I'm sure I've seen a pic somewhere of the spoiler removed showing many bold holes, but I can't find anymore bolts. So is it held on with adhesive, do I simply rip it off now using force, maybe heat it a little first? I'm sure this must have been asked before but not finding anything with the search.
  17. Thanks all, I think I'll try the oil option and see what happens, but yeah it isn't cheap! Nothing ever is though!! :( Is it easy to change the gearbox oil? I've only done it once, on a Probe and had to use a long tube and a funnel to refill it.
  18. Sway bars / anti roll bars / torsion bars, all the same.... :) I've replaced rear bushes and a front subframe, but never noticed any damage (early wear) to the tyres, I don't think you need to worry to be honest. Likely the bushed will be picked up at the MOT if worn though.
  19. Hey, When my car is cold in the morning, I find putting it in second (sometimes third) notchy and there is a noticeable crunch. I fitted a new master clutch cylinder a few weeks back and wonder if it needs adjusting at the pedal. Just wondered if its normal to have a notchy / crunchy gearbox until in warms up?
  20. Nice! :) Reminds me of the Delorean from Back to the Future, but modern!
  21. I've only ever owned used cars, had 9 cars in my life if my memory works, but have to admit, not even my 1983 VW Polo was that bad, its pretty damn bad. :(
  22. I'm currently in the same position with my spoiler, but dont want to spend silly money replacing it, so thinking fibre glass OEM replacment but I do like the car mad smooth skin, but doesnt that need blending into the tailgate with filler before spraying..? I figured the OEM one is a quick and easy fix for now.
  23. Yeah, what is it with Corsa boy racer chavs?! I've had them up my rear, I just think why!? A typical Corsa has no hope. Ahh!
  24. Oh good god! http://www.google.co.uk/imgres?imgurl=http://www.doobybrain.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/12/la-gear-comeback-6.jpg&imgrefurl=http://www.doobybrain.com/2008/12/15/la-gears-return-is-full-of-glittery-fail/&usg=__MXB_TYUm_vHrjqKst2Jb9YXnaW0=&h=402&w=600&sz=112&hl=en&start=0&zoom=1&tbnid=vgH7YB8puLTj_M:&tbnh=123&tbnw=166&ei=g1czTYqfHYeDhQeS6riUCw&prev=/images%3Fq%3Dla%2Bgear%26um%3D1%26hl%3Den%26safe%3Doff%26sa%3DN%26biw%3D1280%26bih%3D699%26tbs%3Disch:1&um=1&itbs=1&iact=hc&vpx=322&vpy=249&dur=19&hovh=184&hovw=274&tx=174&ty=97&oei=g1czTYqfHYeDhQeS6riUCw&esq=1&page=1&ndsp=26&ved=1t:429,r:7,s:0
