there's definitely two sides to this. i went to uni to study an engineering deggree in performance car technology, but decided to buy a house and then realised i couldent really afford the house, so i dropped out and got a job. 3 years later and im the parts manager of a large agricultural dealership, working my ass off but mostly enjoying doing it. but while i was in university i didnt give it my all, and would have probrlably barely scraped though, so IMHO i didnt deserve the chance to be there, but if they put more effort into making sure only the ones who deserve the chance and those who want to study something worthwhile get in then perhaps they could find a happy medium some how.

nightmare pal, best off getting a replacement. ive had this happen with 2 of my drives (over 4tb in all) one of which would only work in one socket, but still works fine now. and one which was totally on the dodge, got mine off the gaybay though so was kerfooked for getitng any cash back :-( hope it works out ok for ya

try it with only the new one connected, just to see if bios will recognise it

ok, have you tried disconnecting all but the new drive and booting to bios then?

quite right lol, and remember allways keep your power and signal cables apart. and allways wipe front to back ;-)

hmmmmmm, curious..... have you tried it in a different sata plug on the motherbaord? if the drive is good it should show up in bios IIRC...

would be really cool to clamp the guy that comes to take the money off ya. have a m8 sneak round his vehicle and pop a clamp on whilst hes releasing yours :-) im sure you can get clamps fairly cheap

Jeff, dont use the restore discs unless you are happy to lose everything on the laptop, they will more than likely reset the computer back to an 'as new' state. before you do anything rash there are various things you can try. (*) can you get to a command prompt? you may be able to back up the data from here.... (*) do you have another laptop to which you can install the possibly kerfooked drive into? I sure hope i can keep mine a long time, the car is a ledgend better than all its replacements except possibly the 370. is there any way to find out how many are still road legal, perhaps something through dvla or whatever?

i generally stick to bitter nowadays lol, proper old man :-) (im 25 lol) seems to leave me a bit clearer in the morning. im trying to work out what to cook for dinner now

a frind of mine used to make me an irish mixed grill, which was: fried potatoes hash browns boiled spuds mash and chips :-)

my hangovers are that bad these days its 'nearly' put a stop to me drinking! nothing seems to help! any suggestions would be greatly appreciated lol. i used to be able to drink till it got light, then start again the following afternoon, these days i dont even wanna wake up the next day let alone socialise again lol. sometimes i find drinking about a billion pints of water before i go to sleep helps, but not allways :-(
