Small spaces and manifolds!
LOL! at the skinned knuckles!! Been there... done that(most of work done by my mechanic.) in the earlier days it wasnt really known how much re-locating of sensor etc was needed. First time I had them done i got the sensor moved OK and it looked like the header was clear of the steering. I hadnt allowed for the slight eccenticity in the rod tho as the steering turns. So the trial run down the road meant that at the first sharp 90 left the rod went a little tight on the header. Another half an hour on the ramp and some adjustment with a Birminham screwdriver solved it tho:blink:

BDC licence day at Silverstone
Damn. I never caught on when you said to me there was a 300 drifting. 100% respect to you for getting out there and having a go. As Bob said we could see there was a "Drift School" or something going on but we were busy with Bobs own car on track. Can you explain the tech bit?? Failed on lock??? Weight? Is there a minimum weight. I was watching some Formula Drift in Long Beach on the telly last nite. It did look pretty exciting:cool3:

Ebay discs any good?
NAs changed to TT spec 30mm discs somewhere in 1992. Hence as you correctly say there isnt a lot out there for the (early) NA at least not in the UK where it is a reasonably rare car.

Anyone fancy 24 Datsun 240's?.....
And not a single piece of bodykit in sight.:) Stock shape enhanced by some very nice wheels.:bow: Like the 240Z it never caught on here but thousands were sold in the US. You can understand why when they are this nice. And in truth were better suited to American style and roads than the 240Z

2+2 FIA roll cage.
And as they are from Japan they may not meet FIA regs?? There is virtually no UK info on them cos there is virtualy no demand for them. The 2+2 300ZX is not the car of choice for many FIA regulated events. Especially in the UK. The US is mainly a 2 seater market and their SCCA regs are not the same as FIA . People like Custom cages will/can make you one to any spec you wish. It will cost more than many people pay for a whole car tho.

project anyone ????
Its the correct and true answer.:surrender: I alrady have two rust free Californian 240Z . One complete and one as a protect. Plus two complete RHD conversion kits. So WTF would I want a sack of S$$t like that for??? Z club member RallymanDP was offered it some time ago and turned it down. As his "expert status " in the 240Z world is on a similar level to mine that tells me all I need to know. I wouldnt travel 5 miles to look at it never mind 105. We were asked on Z club by a new member as maybe a bidder on it what we thought. In those circumstances my ethos is to use my skills and knowledge fairly and without bias or deviouness to assist prospective new 240Z owners to come to their decision.:thumbup1:

project anyone ????
Once again those of us who know about these things have already seen this and discussed it over on Z club. The general consensus is to steer clear. I have already put an assessment up on the thread about it. Here is wot I zed........ Well I dont know the car personally. its up in RallymanDP.s territory so maybe he knows something about it?? Probably if it was any good he would have alrady bought it. However... lets try and be objective... There are some positive points. It's a 240Z its got a log book and its either 71 or early 72 so deffo can be tax exempt once its on the road Probably a set of what we call Enkies?? Now assuming its a UK car it will have been here for almost 40 years. Its going to be rusty, Fact. What nobody knows until the take all the crap off it is HOW rusty. Going over the shell as it is with a magnet will give some clue but the full horror wont be revealed till all that nasty bodykit and paint is removed. there are some negative aspects visible in the pictures. Its got a sunroof. whether you like them or loathe them the hard fact is they reduce the value of any 240Z. Probably by around £1000 Both rear arches have been chopped about and flaired. As have the front wings. There is a tacky fibreglass nosecone kit bonded on and its smashed up. The sill have sideskirts. now all of that was great in the 80s but nowadays the vast majority of 240Z owners dont go in for that sort of stuff.. The arches and wings may well be cut.bodged/rusted beyond redemption. i spy an XR3 rear bumper or a fibreglass replica?? Again.... common in the 80s but just not acceptable now on nice 240Zs. The rear slam panel is rusty and needs replacing....no surprise there then. I spy a nasty chassis leg repair up front. how many more repairs are there like that??? Is the trim any good. Or the seats?? Or the seat belts?? What about the engine and box and suspension and brakes?? Anything any good??? Who knows. What I do know is that it will need an opening spend of £5000 which will increase exponentially as the rebuild progresses.

Mike from Zworld update
If you ignore all the excess sales talk and look at the spec I still think anyone Up North looking to but a 300 should be going to check this out in the metal. And he obvioysly has logged on here and seen the disussion hence the modified ad!!

Anyone fancy 24 Datsun 240's?.....

Well I might as well do a bit of blatant advertizing AND post whoring all at the same time.:innocent: this could be yours for under £5K:ohmy:

it isnt hard. just tedious. You do need a list of RH parts of course. Dash. rack and pedal box . Its useful to have a full RHD bulkhead to pick all the bits off. for anyone looking at my LHD one for sale I have a full kit of conversion parts available as per the advert. Some of us just ran them LHD of course. Given the ever increasing values of RHD 240Zs the only cars being broken are those totally beyond economic/practical repair. I personally have NEVER broken a 240Z that could have gone on the road again. So no actual loss to the existing rhd 240Zs no the red LHD 240Z is now owned by a happy chappie in France. The grey one will probably head that way too unless a UK buyer comes along in the next few weeks. already have contacts etc in to the European 240Z scene which is very buoyant and isnt bogged down by low budget bodgit and fixit mentality owners like the UK The 280Z is numerically the most common model of S30 in the US. It has never quite reached the respect and status of the 240Z even in the US. It is however a competent car it its own right. Likewize the 280ZX has a huge following and numbers in the US. As with most of the Z range the 2 seater is the one to have. Like Mr Burns picked!!

Anyone fancy 24 Datsun 240's?.....
well not just at the moment. This has all been seen and discussed on Zclub as you might imagine. Its highly interesting for sure but you know the old saying... " if it seems to good to be true... it probably is." I cant get all the pics to open but ones that do show all the cars visible are partly dismantled.. Just getting one car complete with all its correct parts is a potential nightmare. That number would be too many cars for our european market all at one time. i know two organizations that import 240Z in small batches . In fact I currently have one and I have listed for sale as a running restoration project. http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/2451658.htm I know its a bit more money but just look at my pics. Its one complete car and it runs drives n stops. All of these cars in the collection will need a couple of hundred hours and several thousand pounds spending on each one!! And bear in mind that the 240Z has a huge following in the states. If this collection was such a bargain it would have sold in the US almost straight away.

Where to get a new Starter Motor - Part no?
Its not difficult to check a starter motor "on the bench" IMO its equally likely that you have worn teeth on your ring gear as any one engine always comes to rest in approx the same spot. (90% of the ring gear will be perfect. 10% will be fubared)

Seat Covers
Its been discussed before And I will re state my 2P worth. i wouldnt have plactic seats in my Zed. Cheap n nasty looking IMO. He goes to great lengths to say that his leatherette aint vinyl and that leather is tooo expensive to use(*****cks) So WTF is it then... Its plastic/synthetic of some sort. Its not leather. all of course IMHO
