Congratulations mate. Mines 11 months old now and I’ve done very little on the Z recently. Make the most of it whilst she’s still and napping a lot, mins crawls now and is a one woman army of destruction and distraction:lol:

Regardless of what said the classic/collectible car market a large portion of it is about tax. There’s a lot of people investing in high end Porsche’s and the like, many of them have little interest in the cars.

My point is in comparison to more traditional mainstream platforms like the RB the parts, support and knowledge aren’t the same. You can buy a nice big cheap turbo, like a holset a single turbo manifold and some injectors. An afternoon and a few cups of tea your off to the dyno. A VG after scouring the internet, purchasing two turbos from a limited range you will spend the best part of a day swearing as you split your knuckles getting the block out. Then spend another afternoon having a ham fisted argument with the turbos getting them off the block. You umm’d and arr’d about those MPS manifolds because of the cost and opted out. Then you spent the rest of day fitting the injectors with your adapters. Next day, block in and if there’s time your modifying your loom to accept the injectors. Now it’s just time to find someone who wants to map it. That’s how most people look at it. There’s a reason why S bodies are more expensive than Z32s and not just drift tax, right or wrong that’s the perception.

Is the VG underrated? Yes! No question. As pointed out it’s actually superior to the legendary RB. It is however an expensive block to tune, not many options for single turbo conversion, space is a problem, just a nuisance engine. Obviously more expensive to purchase upgrontbother engines are cheaper and better supported for modifications. You can get 500hp naturally aspirated out of an LS lump but it’s a comparitavily expensive block.

That last bit is so important. It’s not just financial but time too, any project is massively consuming and can spiral out of hand, well intentioned dreams are hampered by reality. So he builds some 700hp Engine, there’s then a raft of snags. What does he really want and expect.

Things change a lot in this game. Despite the insistence of those who haven’t moved for 39 years, it’s rarely a fast process. A lot of friends are buying at present and it follows a trend. On average from offer to getting the keys in hand takes 12 weeks. Now I know it can be done faster but in the half a dozen cases Ive been close to in the last three years it isn’t. The process for us was a nightmare and I’d have happily strangled our solicitor more than once and his smug ass receptionist. Like Pete said they seem to frustrate things on stupid points. One of my mates spent a fortnight waiting, whilst they were arguing over a non existent wall and refusing the exchange of contract. Something about a missing certificate. In the end it transpired it never existed. I’m pretty sure they drag it all out deliberately. Can’t wait to do it all again...

A modern multigeared automatic, like what you will find in high end merc etc, brilliant. The archaic Autobox in a Z32, is a power sucking dullard that ruins the car it’s attached to. I’d take an NA manual over a TT auto. Infact if i had to convert back to auto I’d sell the damn thing!

It took some doing but it allows a much larger tree. Glass ceiling my arse!

This is ours, it seems to have a baby magnet in it. She just sat there saying “wow” repeatedly. Now every time I look the other way she’s trying to grab it. You’d think after 26 christmases my wife would get over it :lol:

Looks like an incomplete set of 2.5” intercooler pipes, worth a few quid if complete. Have a look at the Ash, Z1 etc kits to give you an idea what’s missing. Think your missing the four bits by the rad

You wouldn’t, but surely you know what state it’s in if you’ve removed it each time you’ve painted the car... you’ve said it’s in good nick, so you will only know by replacing it. You need to appreciate that your on a whole different plane of anal to most of us, most of don’t replace every last bolt and seal that’s not faulty.

Didn’t mention anything like that... your referring to the body to tailgate seal no?

The fact that Portugal has a smaller economy than Catalan Spain alone may have something to do with this.

You'll have to use search but I believe you can use a primera one.

That's because it was normal insurance I suspect, a classic policy is rather different. You normally need to be older, to have a primary car for everyday, limited miles and most require the car to be garaged. You also won't accure not claims bonuses on these policies, so for example I have a company vechile which is my primary transportation, so I'm not the policy holder. I now have no, no claims as they have expired as the only insurance I have in my name is a classic policy.

Sounds like what happened to mine, you'd go to accelerate and it would go to downshift and the revs would hit the roof before it slowly slipped into gear and engauged. Awful and it just got worse and worse, till it barely moved when hot. Conversion to manual was the real fix.
