  2. My dad had a Rex honestly pants fuel economy 20mpg on a run. Underpowered and I think poorly built.
  3. Sorry you've asked that several times haven't you yet no ones answered. Firstly the plenum would bee swimming in oil. Secondly the car would burn blue, this is because the oil would be combusted. The thick grey color of this suggests oil being vaporised after combustion. Ie in the exhaust. Also the PVC should be open during idle and all vacuum conditions. It closes when the car boosts to prevent press sustain of the crank case.
  4. You wouldn't. the bearing sits in the hub which is easily accessed by simply removing the wheel. get a photo and we will soon work out what it is.
  5. Shit me mate a bit of over fuelling? Question see after the black clears it goes grey quickly what causes that? oil being burnt? bit odd isnt it.
  6. I did think to myself im sure that and the other obvious stuff like water pipe bypass would have been done esp seeing as the plenum came off.
  7. Yeah, as ive said a few times the colour of the smoke and other things described is text book for rear seal failure. What confuses me though is that oil is also being combusted/entering the combustion chamber. I wonder if theres a blockage in the turbo oil return and its filling the turbo up its overflowing everywhere. Im just confused as to why oil is in the chambers, it cant locgically be sucked into the chambers through the exhaust manifold can it? The amount of oil that's escaping whatever way its leaving, the seal would have to be virtually gone, unless its under backpressure and being forced out.

  9. He is a busy guy I'm sure he will get in touch though. Search around for ashspecz USA company that do loads of r&d for the z32 he has been pulling good solid numbers out of stock turbos with 2.5" inter cooler lines 3" exhaust systems and 740cc injectors. As I said earlier though it would be cheaper to upgrade the turbos, than do all that to get the same figures.
  10. Yes, yes he did lol. The cost and time of messing about with getting the very max out of the stock turbos would outweigh the costing of some updated units. Have a chat to nix there weren't that many mods to get 430hp that extra 50/70 is expensive.
  11. Just to clarify jeff I wasn't questioning you, merely trying to help with diagnosis. However in reality as you said earlier there's no guarantee to what happens with second hand parts, what they were doing last week is no guarantee of what's occuring now.
  12. To a certain extent I agree with you mark, As I was saying yesterday the colour of the smoke etc suggests rear turbo oil seal, that smoke just doesn't look like combusted oil. However the bottom plug is very black on the tip, I would say that cylinder has been burning oil. Its bloody confusing, oil shouldn't be able to pass the threads on the plugs and gain access to the cylinder should it. I recon if you removed the turbo elbow, opened the wastegate and dipped your finger in there a pool of oil would be found.

  14. In Fairness id say the Severn bridge is more than 17X bigger so its probably cheaper per metre.....:clap: Does make me laugh though that you have to pay to get into wales but not to leave. Maybe if we applied that technology to the whole of the Uk there would be less people in it, jokes.

  16. Totally agree, even the best mechanic in the world is going to be able to help you 100% solidly as you just don't get the full gravity with videos etc, no substitute for being able to touch smell see etc etc.

Just for reference really more than anything else, what mine was doing is leaking past the rear seals in the turbo. http://www.300zx.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?163503-seriously-disheartened-now-and-just-wanna-burn-the-car-help!/page3&highlight=turbo+smoke At idle it wouldn't smoke much, and this really threw me as most things mention that it leaks and smokes only at idle. Smoking only at idle combined with grey smoke(rather than blue) is a characteristic, rear turbo oil seal failure. What sealed it for me was the loss of smoke as the revs raised and the lack of any contamination in the induction tract. When we pulled everything apart I soon realised what was occurring, the oil was weeping by and sitting in the bottom of the turbo exhaust housing, when the revs raised it blew it out the housing for a while till it decreased the puddle enough for it to not be visible. What throws me off your issue being this, is the fact that cylinders are dropping out, that doesn't ft the issue, but could be something else. At least when you get a solid answer from the garage tomorrow, you can know weather its something internal or not.
  18. That all looks pretty normal induction wise, bear in mind though the left turbo drives the right cylinder and/or vice versa. However that plug looks wet in the photo... got a blow torch and a vice?
  19. I'm no expert mate! However all you can do you is start with the obvious and the testable, once you elimated in the worst case scenarios its all uphill, or conversely you get a stand out answer. No matter what car it is, the basic principal applies, Do you have compression? Do you have spark? Do you have fuel? if the answer to that is yes is it happening at the right time? Your car IS consuming and burning/vapourising oil, so a seal whether its a turbo, a piston ring whatever is allowing oil to be sucked into the combustion cycle. Anyways good luck.
  20. They can do all sorts of weird and wonderfull things normally intermittent speedos and powered steering. If you could get your hnds on some uk clocks you could kill to birds, ditches the damn converter and ensures you have a working set. whilst also making it more legiable.
