  1. Cheers for that, didn't notice the drain holes but will have a proper look tonight. Gareth
  2. I am now half way through my d.i.y. 60k service and am at the point of refitting the cam & crank seals. The cam seals were no problem, they were reasonably easy to fit and position, the problem is with the crank seal. Now I had no problem getting it over the 'step' on the crankshaft as I used the thin plastic strip technique, the problem I have is the positioning of the seal. The camshaft seals fit so that the face of them is flush with the surround, but on the crankshaft the seal seams to have gone into the recess about 1-1.5mm. Can anyone tell me if that is right or not? The seal is sitting straight, but I am not sure if its gone in too far. I don't want to carry on reassembling if I need to remove the seal and refit it again? Anyone? Gareth
  3. With the sterling/yen exchange rate the way it is at the moment, I would hang fire for a few months if you can. I have been considering importing a Skyline 350GT for a bit now but the landed cost has shot through the roof because of the plummeting value of the pound.
  4. Think its just the shadows on the front end. This is the sort of thing that should be bought and kept in a nice warm garage for a few years. Standard zeds are becoming few & far between and will become an appreciating classic in my opinion.
  5. Correct, I would only consider using a dry type filter as there is the potential of microscopic oil droplets being transferred to the element in the afm.
  6. If you believe what they say, its to do with the cost of repairing your car if it has a smash. The fact that many imports are also sold in the UK as a UK model (Pajero/Shogun etc etc) and therefore are just as easy to repair doesn't seem to come into it :headvswal
  7. I think that there were a few sold by Nissan dealers as 'personal imports' and registered from new in the UK. He could mean that, although I have only heard of one that I know of. Gareth
  8. The Subaru Legacys are not bad cars and very cheap for what they are. Most are autos though (not sure if that is an issue to you). They also suffer from what owners call the 'valley of death' when accelerating due to the turbos being sequential. Basically the turbo that spools up first runs out of puff before the second kicks in, which leaves a 'hole' in the power. I do believe that it can be almost eliminated by remapping the ecu though. Have you also considered the Nissan Stagea? Quite a few about, same engine as the Skyline R33 Gts (RB25DET) and reasonably cheap to buy. That would probably be my choice. Gareth
  9. Just goes to show how wide the Zed is in comparison to the 180sx/200sx!
  10. Fortunately at home we haven't seen much of an effect, apart from the obvious price rises in food/fuel/utilities etc. I work in the fertiliser manufacturing industry (which is having its best year for a long time due to demand for increased food crops and the bio-fuel business), my wife works for a well known oil company who seem to be doing ok for themselves at the moment too  We have lost quite a lot of money on some shares we have, but as that is a long term investment we can wait for them to recover (hopefully). On the other hand we have just swapped our ISA's over to another bank as they are offering more than 2% more interest than what we were getting. Not wanting to sound controversial but the people who I know personally who are struggling are the ones that have been living beyond their means for the past few years. The problem is that maintaining and paying for that lifestyle is now coming back to haunt them. I do feel sorry for the people losing their jobs through no fault of their own though... My 2p...
  11. I 'think' that is a fuel pump relay, but someone may be able to confirm this. Gareth
  12. Thats weird, Chaucer insure mine (through Carole Nash) and its come down! My renewal is £166.65 including my wife on it. I am 35, the cars insured value is quite low though and the restricted mileage is 2500 as it spends most its time in the garage! It may be worth trying Carole Nash then... Gareth
  13. Tron fans may be interested to hear that Tron 2 is due out next year, and has some of the original cast in it. I think its going to be called Tr2n. A bit of googling will find you the trailer. Gareth
  14. UK zeds have 245 as standard on the 16" rim which is 8.5"
  15. He's talking crap, how would it pass a brake effort test on the MOT if it only had the handbrake operating on the back wheels?
  16. Thanks a lot folks, just about to go and wash the Zed - then open the rest of my pressies later on.:duffer:
  17. Mike, I had this exact problem with my previous zed. It was a faulty ECU and replacing it solved the problem. I am convinced that I had done something to it when either recharging the battery or jump starting it. Gareth
  18. I'd be surprised if they are as the Z32 MAFs are a common upgrade for the Skylines.
  19. Having no spoiler definitely affects the handling in my opinion. Mine was de-spoilered when I bought it but I have fitted a 99 spec spoiler now and the difference in the way the car felt was noticable straight away. Its not just at speed either, on winding roads the car feels much more planted and stable to me and inspires more confidence.

That tyre looks exactly the same as the front 2 on my Vectra which failed its MOT on Monday on, guess what... The front tyres !!! If my car failed its MOT because of tyres like that, I am sure that means that yours CANNOT be legal???
  21. Yes, I did, but I actually used a folded blanket for now as there is less 'give' than there is with a cushion. I intend making something firm that fills the bucket to effectively give a flat surface for the seat to sit on.
  22. I have just bought a Britax Evolva 1-2-3 that seems to fit in place ok, but the seatbelt is a bit short (3 point). Once I sort that though I will take some pictures to post up. The problem I had was finding a seat that was 'shallow' enough not to hang over the front edge of the back seat, this one seems fine however.
  23. Could be Goodburger, crappy comedy film about a burger bar with 90's kids show stars Kenan & Kel. There is one in that

Just needs 'refreshing'. Don't have a bike licence though. Was given to me when my step-dad died. The Almera was probably my favourite daily driver , totally reliable, pretty nippy and brilliant handling. Once followed a Golf VR6 on a 'spirited' drive along country lanes and he couldn't lose me.
  25. I am pretty sure the Lambos have the 'speed bump' facility where you press a button to lift the front end a couple of inches to get over obstacles. Its probably raised to aid packing into a crate.
